We DO have enough data to know if 99.9% of the population is staying at home, that the number of cases should go down eventually. The next 10 or so weeks are going to be pretty ugly though, especially at hospitals. What we don’t know for certain is if we can keep those numbers down in the long term without repeatedly closing down society, until we get a vaccine. Perhaps testing and contract tracing with shutting down hotspots would be enough.
Dude where do you live with this 99.9% of the population is staying at home.
There are a lot of people at home but theres also a good amount of still people out.
I’m referring to Mayor Garcetti’s comment that 99.9% of LA residents are basically following the stay at home order.
Not true I'd say like 60% of the people.
I guess you know more than the mayor then. The stay at home order allows for people to go out for necessities or continue working at certain places. He said 99.9% with this factored in.
No, I just know what I see.
It maybe closer to 70% staying in.
Well, I hope you’re wrong, because if 40% isn’t following the stay at home order (with exceptions factored in), we’re fucked, unless the data on the reproductive rate Ro of the virus and the mortality rate are way off (which they might be — again we need better data).

This is something I haven't seen before but is very concerning!
"Mystery In Wuhan: Recovered Coronavirus Patients Test Negative ... Then Positive"
Some Wuhan residents who had tested positive earlier and then recovered from the disease are testing positive for the virus a second time. Based on data from several quarantine facilities in the city, which house patients for further observation after their discharge from hospitals, about 5%-10% of patients pronounced "recovered" have tested positive again.
Some of those who retested positive appear to be asymptomatic carriers — those who carry the virus and are possibly infectious but do not exhibit any of the illness's associated symptoms — suggesting that the outbreak in Wuhan is not close to being over.
The question I haven't seen answered is when is someone concerned completely recovered from the virus and can this be like herpes and reappear but the person could then become an asymptomatic carrier who can infect those who haven't had it yet but they that person won't have symptoms at that point.
Also nobody knows what are the lasting effect of the virus.

While this is indeed very informative, the greatest revelation of this blog is that Los Angeles has a Little Bangladesh. I had no idea.
Ts said to be near Koreatown
Weird I notice a trend
Allot of the cities that have the highest numbers.
Are also some of our popular cities on our site to visit.
Im wondering why Melrose has 49 cases.
Are they talking about the street.
The street goes from Roberson Blvd in West Hollywood to like Vermont Blvd.
Why so many cases there?
^^^Most of those cases are Angelina Jolie's kids.
That’s it I’m moving to Lenox.
Those are false positives or have previously gotten false negatives.

"Im wondering why Melrose has 49 cases."
I blame Heather Locklear

I don't trust ANY information coming out of China.....those assholes put the world in this situation because they were not honest up front....so why would I believe them now....
And the World Health Organization is made up of a bunch of idiots....they screw stuff up all the time. They miss critical stuff over and over again...
good thread and some common sense info.
Some thoughts to be taken seriously.
1. Whatever the number of positive tests from the CDC, the likely number of infected is probably ten times greater. Simply a lack of actual tests. Thank your President, who could have hit the road running and taken up offers to buy tests from other countries.
2. the reinfection rate is a huge problem. Symptoms ebb and flow. You can have a fever for a few days, then feel better. But the virus remains in your system, and people in ground zero in China have found it can fire back at you again a week later. Which is why the stay-home advice is important.
3. Cities with high density of people suffer more positives. That's what happened in Northern Italy, where spacing between apartments/homes/city is tight. Likewise NYC. On the flip side, port cities have been hard hit, because its where cruises disembark, where goods land from international cities. As well, the crews on these ships/freighters have been living in tight quarters for long periods of time.
4. If you have an elderly loved one, don't put her in a nursing home or assisted living faciity. Same density issues, times elderly with immune system issues.
5. This is going to get much worse before it gets better. Mexico and South American cities have been slow to respond to safeguards. Plus they have fewer tests than the USA. The numbers so not reflect a lot of people who have gotten sick and are infecting others. Numbers from Russia are not being provided. Likewise in Africa.
What we have on our side is that more people take this serious than those who don't. If we're staying home and limiting contact, we're being smart. And while HX blogs and comments are full of snark, sarcasm and strong opinions, I see people doing the right thing.
Oh, and I asked my doctor if having casual sex was an issue. His answer: Take a shower together, lather up big time, fresh sheets, gargle with peroxyl, and wash your hands again before foreplay.
I'm doing the right thing. But still managing to be full of snark.
344 new cases today, 6 more deaths for LA. Hollywood area & the South Bay seem to be hot spots.
I'm staying tf inside.
Snark and sarcasm are virtues ...

“This is something I haven't seen before but is very concerning! ”
That you are concerned makes me concerned... because I just read and watch the news... but with your expertise in infectious diseases... and you haven’t seen this before.... this must be a worrisome phenomenon!

Since the coronavirus Yellowstone National Park is closed. This reporter was doing a report and you have got to see his reaction to some on coming bison.........it will make you laugh!

Bison don't care about Corona. They're more worried about becoming your Hamburger.

"Fortunately you can be fingertip pulse oximeters online that are accurate enough to monitor yourself or the people you care for"
I ordered one on 3/16 for $18 from Amazon and it arrived on 3/24.
I highly doubt there is any reinfection of people by the COVID-19 virus going on. This just flies against what we know about the behavior of viruses in humans. It's almost certain that these people will have a level of immunity that lasts for a certain amount of time. There probably wasn't really clearance of the virus in "reinfected" people.
There are such things as false negatives, especially in tests that were developed in haste.
The majority of cases are concentrated in the west side area of LA county which is where the most affluent people tend to live. On the other hand, east LA has fewer cases generally speaking. Its the rich peoples' illness.
The people have coronavirus and now the govt has created the NOBIZVIRUS.
I don't think the entire country can be shut down
for more than 30 days without some serious economic consequences, even
with the stimulus. Many small businesses need to re-open ASAP!
It will be very interesting to see where we are by April 12th.
Are we going to destroy lives to try and save lives?
Good luck to Trump and this one!
PS Blogging will be the favorite thing on this site, if we
don't get back to business soon.
Opening biz now would probably create far more econ damage than waiting out until is appropriate to go back to the usual routine. There are now 100K+ cases in the US. We are #1...so we are winning Trump would say LOL.
I have an obvious question that I think many other people maybe wondering as well.
All school are closed most everywhere in the country.
Almost every major city in the US and the world has some sort of lockdown
The Government is now giving you money to save the US economy.
All you see on every media is coronavirus covid 19 etc....
No sporing event anywhere in the world. The Olympics was even postponed for the first time ever.
Very few people are working.
Major Celebs have contracted in Tom Hanks, Kevin Durant, Prince Charles, The Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Senator Rand Paul etc...........
Every store that is open only lets a few people in at a time. There are lines on the floor to show how far you should stay apart.
You are told to do something call social distancing and stay 6 feet apart from every other human being.
The is a one in a generation pandemic on this world wide scale.
The virus is highly contagious and can be spread by just touching a surface that a contagious person cough or sneezed on.
Many people are walking are with surgical masks on in the streets.
If you get it you can infect your entire family.
Many people that have the virus are asymptomatic. Theres no way to know who has it and who doesn't. Asymptomatic people can carry and spread the virus even though they not coughing or have any visible symptoms.
People are get sick and some are dying from this shit!
.......yet you all these girls here still working?????
and 99% will live and a lot won't even have any symptoms,
Stop with the doom & gloom, millions are not going to die...
There is an obvious answer to that question which some may reject but is still valid nonetheless: They have no choice but to work. And the threat of this virus may not be as novel a threat to them as it may be to others, since they're facing existential threats on a regular basis that the rest of us are secure from. So, I'm left thinking that maybe it reveals a certain entitlement that we have if we can not work and still have food and a home, but others who are on this site find themselves in a position where they have no choice but to work.
.........you think they some work even having this super contagious shit?
The reality is that ALL of us are going to be working either while we have it, or someone we're working with has it. We simply can't expect quarantine to be a viable, long term solution to this problem.
dude, who are to pass judgement on anyone?
Come on crane, you're talking about doom dud..
Here is the link to what;s actually happening. Remember these are only confirmed cases.
Lots of peeps show no signs of the virus, that actually have it.
Interesting, is there a breakdown for the other counties of the southern CA?
Orange County:
Riverside
San Bernadino
San Diego?
Hopefully, this new test will make a difference.
50,000 tests per day available starting sometime by end of next week?
WOW!

2months.. before all this covid19 pandemic i had went to the ER due to sinus and flu like symptoms body aches and what not which is not like me to get sick.I have a very good immune system being that I have worked in many medical facilities and my health lifestyle and my diet habits I rarely get sick. It was very odd to me how the er doctor tested me for the flu and yet I tested negative for influenza but had flu like symptoms is what they told me smh. Looking back at all this I wonder if I did have covid19 before they even realized. Haha just a random rant...

Thank Governor Jerry Brown for killing the 200 million state built stockpile for disasters. We had three 200 bed mobile hospitals that could be deployed on flatbed trucks, 50 million N95 respirators. 2400 portable ventilators and kits to set up 21,000 patient beds. Jerry Brown cut off the money to store and maintain the stockpile of supplies and mobile hospitals. Much of the medical equipment in including ventilators were just given away and the N -95 masks were allowed to expired. The cost for maintaining this stockpile was $5.8 million out of $ 129 billion budget for California.
That medical shit is not important!
Thankfully, Jerry gave us the Choo Choo and we can put the sickos on there and send them to nowhere.
Thanks Jerry!
BLOW ME JERRY
