Honestly, I’m not sure what is right in all of this.
Trump campaigned on the idea of ending our involvement in “endless wars.” American lives and American money being spent in areas that don’t benefit us. If my son were over there... I would want him home safely... and would resent our government if he died protecting the Kurds.
So I like the idea of bringing back our troops.
The other side of the argument is supporting allies and providing balance for smaller groups (like the Kurds) who will be overrun without our presence.
I completely understand both values and the passion behind them, so it’s tough for me to be critical of either one.
This is one of those places where leadership is costly. I respect that Trump is honoring his campaign promise... and is willing to stand against some of his strongest Republican political allies to do it. Particularly at a time when he really needs their support (impeachment)
I also, feel wrong about leaving the Kurds to fight a battle they cannot win.
I haven’t heard an answer that solves both problems.
I think if I had to choose... I would bring our men and women home wherever possible.
How to do that responsibly... I don’t know.

And back on topic... Trump now has actual blood on his hands for this betrayal, and we have been made to look weak and incompetent before the world.
In about 10 years the survivors of this back stabbing are going to take their revenge and we will be in another war of our own making. They have long memories back there. Some people still have blood grudges from the Greek/Trojan war. The one with Achilles.

Trump only cares about Turkey because he has two Trump Towers there. Don't believe Trump really backs economic sanctions when it would most likely hurt his bottom line. This has to be one of the worst decisions he's made from a political and moral perspective. Hopefully more Republicans law makers will start to see that he is not as useful of an idiot as they thought.

I didn’t vote for Trump (or HRC for the matter), but I have thought he’s done a better job than I expected. On this issue though I have nothing but disdain for him. We had a relatively small number of troops in the area acting as advisors. Their presence was also what was keeping Turkey at bay since we are NATO members and they didn’t want to cause a bigger issue if our service members were injured or killed. His bullshit response of “I didn’t endorse the attack” is exactly that BULLSHIT. There is no way in earth he didn’t know exactly what Turkey was going to do.

1st these are rebels in their own country, and while I am all for rebellions, nobody should think we will have their backs. What would you have us do? stay there forever protecting a rebellion?

Thanks for providing a right wing lie to the thread. Bush negotiated and signed a complete US withdrawal from Iraq. Obama followed through on Bush's deal.
ISIS grew because of the complete incompetence of the Iraqi government and the never ending feud between Sunnis and Shiites. ISIS is a Sunni group that was mainly funded by Trump's good friends the Saudi Arabians. Remember them? 9/11 and such?
Of course Bush screwed the pooch with his stupid war and destabilized the entire Middle East. This was all predicted before his moronic invasion. Remember that? It was supported by every single republican and 23 democrats in the Senate.
Passing in the buck to Obama will never excuse Bush who is nothing short of a war criminal.
After Trump is thrown out of office, the new president should direct the DOJ to convict every single member of his administration who broke the laws. No more of this letting the S&L crooks go, letting the Iran-Contra thieves go, letting the Bush war criminals go, letting the bankers and mortgage lenders go. ENOUGH.
