Who cares, sports figures need to stay the fuck out of politics. No one cares about what a high school dropout who happens to be good at playing a game thinks or says.
|
|
Young people coming up do, unfortunately.

China wants Daryl Morey fired.
Silver said he's not even going to reprimand him. Rockets owner should pressure him to resign.
Not for what he said because he was exercising his freedom of speech. He should be asked to resign for just being a dumbass. GM's should not be tweeting about things other than basketball. The Rockets likely have dealt with Chine more than any other team in the NBA. They were the team Yao Ming was on and thats a big deal in China. Daryl Morey knows the Chinese market better than most and he knows what could set them off. China is throwing the hammer at the NBA so much if this continues the league going to have to lower the amount of money each team can spend on player's salaries next season i.e. salary cap. China is responsible for around 10% of the NBA revenue. Thats Billions of dollars lost over one tweet.

Do you know what kind of America we would have right now if people were moved out of power because they were dumbasses?
|
|
If all the dumbass were taken out of power it would truly MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
|

good
phuckk the whole lot of them
it's too late now, but the chinese are on track to rule the world, without any shots fired
|
|
they are working on it...taking the long view and approach
read the book-attached
Hundred-Year Marathon
they know trump is only in office 4yrs best case and 8 years worse case
they have a leader for life? same with russia
i was kinda thinking trump was aiming at a total decoupling from them...wrecking all supply chains to point of never getting them back together again even after he is out of office
keeping us informed with "almost signing" new deals...keeps the stock market from crashing during the 8 year process of this decoupling without saying you are decoupling
be an incredible feat if they pull it off without a stock market or economy crash
this new deal now? just more of the same...supply chains are still moving out. china needs food

the nba and china thing is rounding out to be a good thing for china
having such a thing yanked from your life will open many many eyes in china as to how the government is in total control of life there. good? bad? not even talking about the million in camps awaiting harvesting.
will anything come of it? probably not, but this is pretty big
nice to see NBA comm hold some ground...bron has a tight rope to walk now between everything
what would be equivalent here? taking away what?
plastic bags?
plasitc straws?
internet porn?
guns?
internet?
not by vote...just by government shutting it off or taking it away like in china?
|
|
So what do do with all these Mexicans?
|
|
send them to china to make tacos for the chinese
|

I have to concur. The NBA had a chance to show unity for the citizens of Hong Kong who are slowly loosing rights we take for granted, and show the world they stood for something greater than them. instead they bowed their heads and capitulated for somen$$$$
|
|
The NBA and all other leagues should just stay out of polictics all together.
No cares what an athlete has to say about the real world.Shut up and dribble the ball.
|
|
The Chinese govt showed those Black NBA players who's boss.
Now they say, "Yes, boss, no boss, whatever you say boss! LMAO
Now let's see how much they talk about social justice in the U.S.,
and ignore the injustices against Chinese citizens.
If they complain about the social injustice in China, they will be arrested!
It sounds like the Chinese govt has shut down any discourse about
about social justice.
Let's see how soon the NBA players start complaining about the injustices
in this country while ignoring the abuses in China.
Also many Chinese are racist.

If i ask you to sacrifice 20-30% of your entire income from today until your retirement in support for Hong Kong's 30% citizen's yearn for democracy, not freedom, but democracy, would you do it? On top of that all of your colleague will also lose 20-30% of their income as well. Would you do it?
if you would do it, would do you the same for all Africans living in Africa? How about Venezuela? How about Catalan? Montreal? Vietnam? Indonesia? Kurds?
If you would, you have a right to criticize NBA's players.
If you don't, your freedom of speech is just self-pleasuring. It accomplishes zero bring the consequences that you are a hypocrite.
|
|
I like self-pleasuring speech.
“Kaiser... you look great today!”
Self-pleasuring is a winner too!
|
|
People aren't just criticizing lebron but the NBA as a whole. 90% of the NBA players make less than 4-5 million a year. After management fees and taxes, its around 1.5-2mil a year. Losing 20-30% of that would be tremendous.
And they don't even need to support it because of DM's big mouth. His action has caused the Collective Bargaining Agreement to lose about 15% of its value as of today. Meaning the Cap room dropped 15%. meaning ALL NBA players lose 15% of salary for next year if China does not reverse course.
One man's word caused billions in losses for an entire industry. Not including the peripheral effects of restaurants, IT, marketing, TV, radio, Internet sales and ads and services. Down to Fans boycotting or protesting the game for this issue. Those latinas selling hot dogs outside of staples will be affected as a trickle down effect.
So freedom of speech, its great. But think before you speak if you're a guy in the position of power and influence. Lebron might lose fans in HK or a few fans here in the states. but if he can get China to reverse course, that's a win for the whole league and a shit ton of people who's jobs and incomes depend on China.

And that line of argument, CGEM, is why we know there is a dollar value for your morals.
Where the disruption of established rights is ok with you, so long as your wallet is fine.
You can be BOUGHT.
With the NBA situation, a few years ago this money was NOT available, and not in play. It's making wealthy people wealthier, and does not really trickle down to middle or lower class people in the States.
The players had an opportunity to speak up for human rights in a peaceful way (and speak out against violence on both sides). Human rights HAVE BEEN and WILL BE trampled once the Powers that Be further erode rights, like they do to other citizens who are stolen and missing for months, then turn up in mainland China with new attitudes. Or do not return at all.
And in the land where we applaud people for speaking their minds, even if we do not agree with them, the utter SILENCE they have showed indicates that these individuals can be cowed.
Our Alpha Male sports athletes (who many look up to for reasons) are nothing but *bitches* when the chance to do "the right thing" came up.
|
|
And one last thing, honestly speaking, if we are talking about acceptance of NBA in China, a sports and entertainment luxury. Then China came a long way.
The fundamental question I always ask is are your parents lives, income, health, and security better than yours. If they are, then whatever gov't or society you're in right now, its not working in the right direction.
If you go ask the Chinese, not Hong Konger, but those 1.4 billion Chinese, generally speaking, the vast majority will tell you they are doing great and much better than their predecessors.
If you ask Americans how we're doing now compared to our predecessors, we created Donald Trump for better or for worse. I think food and shelter wise, we did fine. But education and healthcare, we definitely got worse. And Andrew Yang actually brought this up that fascinated me that American's life expectancy dropped 3 straight years in a roll.
If that's not a sign that we're not doing well, I don't know what else is. But I digress,.
|
|
^Yes, I think Americans can easily be bought.
Trump got bought over the 10s of thousands of lives of the Kurds, the allies we promised to protect.
If that's our morals, and that's the morals of our leader, whom I voted and supported for, then we are in zero position to criticize others.
You are absolutely right, freedom and democracy can be bought for a price. Our president showed us that. SO did every single politician and president and citizen including you and I who didn't support ALL the people who are under suppression all over the world.
We pick and choose China because they are doing great and we fear they will be better than us.
Its a moral issue. And all of us are hypocrites.

@Sherkahn,
If we have to talk about our morals and ethics,
you sir are in the wrong site. Look at your network, and look at mine.
Are we really talking about morals here? On HX?
Unless all your networks are purely platonic and without benefits, who are you to talk morals to anyone, let alone to me?
When it comes to morals, it comes with legality as well.
I wouldn't talk morals to or against anyone on HX. We don't qualify.

oh no! grown men who play basketball for a living may have to take a pay cut?
now how are people gonna get out of poverty?
|
|
Insensitive prick!
No sympathy for the downtrodden NBA player!
|
|
The NBA ought to tighten up on their money. Loose money is no good.
|
|
let's see how this plays out once the season starts here...some fans are not happy with the responses from players and teams
|
|
Morey unintentionally put a huge cock in Adam Silver’s ass.

I was going to link the Wall Street Journal article (it’s better), but was thinking most don’t have a subscription.
