Sometimes he has a good take on things... most of the time he is just being outrageous.
Although I agree with him on his principle point about Lebron, he goes to an extreme expression to get you attention here. “Bigot” doesn’t really fit... you can stretch it to fit... but calling Lebron a bigot is all about the clicks.
I hope Lebron didn’t take the bait.
Reporter: “Lebron, what do you think about Jason Whitlock calling you a bigot?”
Lebron: “Who?”
Reporter: “Jason Whitlock, the sports writer.”
Lebron: “Oh.” Shrugs his shoulders, smiles and walks away.

If you had you'd see exactly why he called lbj a bigot and pretty much everyone nba player.
He also went into the FACT that these players, regardless of attending college or not, didn't have to actually attend classes or do any work. That the only thing they did was hone their physical skills not their mental ones, which is pretty obvious every time they give a press conference. He also went on to point out that lbj has only a high school education, is not educated in politics or anything else and is speaking from a place of ignorance, as are all the players.

Remember guys, Lebron quit school at 17 and became a multi-millionaire and earned his way into being one of the best basketball players in history, He can say whatever he wants. He also has experience growing up in Akron, Ohio a place where racism between the races is well known.
I believe Lebron wants to be part of the solution. The trouble is due to his wealth and status, he is never exposed to everyday people that want the same solution he does but have real life experiences. Without him being willing to walk outside of his castle he is gonna parrot back what he thinks his fans want to hear.

The argument that Lebron shouldn't comment on current events because he is just a dumb, uneducated jock is silly. I don't believe Mohammed Ali even graduated from high school but he was taken seriously on social issues from when he was the champ to long afterwards. It is similar to saying that sport broadcasters and fans shouldn't comment on players and teams because they never played the sport professionally.
Sure, Whitlock provided reasons why he thinks Lebron is a bigot but his rationale wasn't very convincing. And for Whitlock to say that Lebron is spreading anecdotes is just ridiculous. Blake was shot 7 times in the back, Floyd was suffocated by an officer's knee on his throat, Ahmed Aubry was killed by a vigilante, etc.

The main point Whitlock's making is that no matter what athletes might say they shouldn't be taken seriously. It's a valid point - athletes may not be stupid, although some come pretty close, but they are uneducated, completely out of touch and what ever they say shouldn't be taken that seriously. It is hard to argue with the idea that you don't want to be blindly believing the political and social commentary coming from professional athletes, celebrities and actors.
I have enjoyed watching Lebron James as an athlete, Clint Eastwood directed movies and Meryl Streep as an actress. It does not mean that any of them are necessarily experts in political or social issues. And in many cases their wealth and fame may have separated them from the everyday issues that us ordinary people see.
