Not all science is exact science - that would be the hypothetic estimation but weak data.
Colleges are turning into quick petri dishes - that is good as long as they all stay there and recover like that age group should/will. But watch them peeps with the beetus and such.
No lockdown meant those fuckers are all over the place spreading shit since younger people have been shown to be less symptomatic but very good spreaders (<--NTWL!)
I will be an early vax taker and I think it may be before Jan 1 based on some of the data.

The work is a joke. "it turns out that lockdowns correlated with a greater spread of the virus." Obviously, this correlation isn't a real cause-effect relationship. That's like saying a method that by definition must reduce the transmission will increase transmission. 2+2=5 anyone?
"And [the correlation] makes no difference if the analysis includes other potential explanatory factors, such as population density, age, ethnicity, prevalence of nursing homes, general health or temperature." Doesn't matter. Why continue working on some correlation you know not to be real by definition?
Can't make chicken salad using chicken shit...

There's obviously confounding/hidden variables there that they haven't correctly accounted for.
|

Compare Norway to Sweden and the per capital death rate. Better than any analysis they did.
Lockdowns work.

"Holy fuck! You mean we did lockdowns and trashed our economy for nothing???
And, Joe wants to do it again? "
Good ole shit for brains Joe is also on the record with an assurance to raise taxes with that lockdown.
Bring back regulations... you know the thing...
Do what Dem's do... Come on man!

Here's the problem:
It's not a well-controlled experiment. There are other factors that go into virus spreading besides lockdowns (which, by definition, reduce transmission). Density. Contact network. Susceptibilities. And heterogeneities. It's wrong to assume that lockdowns of the same magnitude will have equal effect on different places due to the other factors. The experiment to do is to vary the lockdown (light vs heavy lockdown) IN THE SAME LOCATION, keeping all other variables the same as much as possible.

NightRider, can I borrow 15 thousand dollars?

Why can't people just simply say, lockdowns work, but they suck donkey kong ass because of the negative effect they have on the economy and people's lives. That would be truth.

"Compare Norway to Sweden and the per capital death rate. Better than any analysis they did.
Lockdowns work."
If you did your homework, Fishy
You'd know the primary reason Sweden had a higher death rate is cause they CHOSE to allow their old co-morbid cases to die in their socialized medical facilities.
While they didn't declare a lockdown, they almost essentially were:
"During the months of March to early June, all shops were practically empty, people stopped dining with friends, and families stopped seeing even their closest relatives," Furberg told MedPage Today. "A lock-down could not have been more effective. Handwashing, excessive use of hand sanitizers, and staying home at the first sign of a cold became the new normal very quickly."
And, as usual, you never take into account all the downsides of lockdown.
For you, the ONLY factor is what you THINK you can measure as a Covid death
Unfortunately for you, that's not the only morality at play.
Nothing worse for a pseudo-scientist than a disease that won't follow the rules.

Trend Macro admitted all the issues you name but their results were similar to the research done by the Lancet publication.
Guess what?
I'm going with the real scientists rather than the one who plays a scientist on HX, k?
Isn't that what Progressives are always telling us to do?
Pay attention to the science!
|
|
Norway vs Sweden is a good experiment because they have similar contact networks, infrastructures, densities, etc...
Norway deaths with lockdown: 264 deaths.
Sweden deaths without lockdown: 5,820 deaths.
Even if you HALF Sweden's deaths due to dying in nursing homes, A WHOLE ORDER OF MAGNITUDE MORE DEATHS occurred in Sweden.
Why?
No lockdown. Period.
Lockdowns save lives.
|
|
It's not science. It's pseudoscience, because you can't possibly account for all those cofounders and get a result that says lockdowns correlates with more virus spreading.
It's like saying gravity all of.a sudden goes up now.
|
|
Or cost them, once you factor in all the testing for life threatening conditions that weren't done, the suicides, the drug overdoses, the ruined lives of people of color who tend to be poorer and have less access to medical care. You told them to sheloter at home where they promptly went to spread the disease to all their family members, remember?
Those studies are just underway but the news is not encouraging for lockdowns.
And, we haven't added the 500,000,000 humans that are now at risk for starvation due to the lockdowns. The hits keep coming, Fishy.

Thanks to Allah, that there's a voice of reason on this blog like Draco.
Your posts are right on but please capitalize that first letter
It's starting to look like some weird affectation
Lockdowns were supposed to be about saving our medical system from being crushed but now some governors see them as an end in themselves, perhaps a permanent state of affairs til we achieve herd immunity. Meanwhile, Joe can't wait to prove hes an Alpha dog and lock us down again.
The Cognitive decline is strong with this one.
Wait til they find out there are 50 million or more Covid infections in the country right now!
Ooops.
