Life beyond Earth

Scientists have detected an unstable and unexpected gas in Venus’s atmosphere that, on Earth, is commonly produced by some microbes. The find could be a sign of life in the clouds of our nearest planetary neighbor—or, it could merely be evidence of some weird, as-yet-unknown chemical processes taking place there.

The gas “is present at levels much higher than can be explained via known methods of production,” says Lewis Dartnell, an astrobiologist at the University of Westminster who was not involved in the new study.

Researchers detected a distinctive signature of the gas—phosphine—in the venusian atmosphere in June 2017 using a ground-based telescope. The observation was later confirmed in March 2019 with another such telescope. The instruments showed a faint reduction in the light at a wavelength only known to be absorbed by the gas, Jane Greaves, an astronomer at Cardiff University, and her colleagues report today in Nature Astronomy.

Not surprising. They say if you could stay 31 miles above the planet you would only need an oxygen source to be outside. Until the acid rain comes.

Scientists have detected an unstable and unexpected gas from OP’s blogs.

Well... that’s not true. It’s totally expected.

There are so many non-biological means of things happening that unless you go there and see the little fart maker yourself--I doubt it's actually a biological process.

Also. Boobs.

Some scientists think there could be as many as one hundred billion galaxies in the universe.

I believe with all the stars in the galaxie and all the galaxies in the universe there has to be millions of planets that support and have life.

My question is are we the most advanced, least advanced or somewhere in the middle lifeform in the universe?

The most realistic space travel movie to me was Jodie Foster's Contact.
