I appreciate my vegan friends for their efforts,
BUT
As a successful gardener, I've asked my vegan friends if they have a source for vegan vegetables.
... Answer... That is not a thing.
Almost all vegetables require nutrients that come from animal sources.
The tomato, for example WILL get "blossom end rot" if you don't have added calcium in some form.
If you were to go mine calcium somewhere it would be very old deposit of dead sea creatures.
Generally, you add bone meal. Somebody's bones.
There's no real substitute for bone meal if you want to eat tomatoes.
That's not an outlier, that's pretty much the norm as for growing vegetables.
ALL vegetables

+1 Mila - congrats to you.
We are omnivores by nature and evolution and as you point out (I think) animal protein and fats are pretty much essential, though ultra-processed foods, whether vegan (Cheetos) or not (hot dogs), are the thing to avoid. Lots of good research on this now, as you point out.

what is normal?

hot and smart, a winning combo

I suppose it depends on who you ask, but a plant-based diet means you eat primary plant derived foods (obviously!) but it differentiates itself from vegan in that you can still eat meat and dairy products, but you are proportionately eating more foods that come from plant sources rather than animal sources. It’s based more on the health benefits rather than ethical concerns, so you’re not prohibited from eating meat and dairy, you just want to reduce them as much as possible. I’ve been doing it for a couple of months now, and it I can certainly feel the difference. There’s just no way, for me at least, to go full time vegan or vegetarian, I love eggs, cheese, and of course a steak from time to time, I just leave the meat for a once-week or every-other-week thing now. Still get most of the health benefits, but not as restrictive to where you are cutting yourself off from the benefits of animal products that you pointed out.

That is the most healing path. Use intuition!
The extreme ideals will only trap you.
It sounds like what you are doing is perfect!
Use common sense!
I’m glad you’re open to both sides of the spectrum.

@CoachMila
I am curious what you think of the Gamechangers documentary on Netflix. Did you watch it?
I found it to be compelling, especially the part about how animal meat affects erections, but I think it may be skewed toward veganism rather than giving the full picture.
It is difficult for me to live without meat, cheese, eggs, etc., which is why I'm asking.
|
|
that is a powerful documentary.
I personally am plant based along with eggs, occasional cheese, occasional sour cream.
I'm curious about the heartbreaking facts the Coach teased us with though I have no interest in debating.....

Thoughtful blog. Thanks for the info. What a wonderful world it would be if we could exchange ideas calmly and thoughtfully like this keeping in mind that there might not be one perfect answer for any given situation. Cheers @CoachMila. May your tribe flourish.

BTW, whatever your dietary inclinations, I think we can all agree that Guacamole is a divine gift from God.

I was in until that last post.

I used to love bacon and pork chops. But after seeing animal rights activists giving them water just before they are slaughtered at Farmer Johns was just too much. They are beautiful intelligent creatures, yet we torture and kill them an an inhuman rate. Trump have pork producers the right to speed up the pace of their slaughter shortly after taking office I can understand the ethical side of veganism.

Uh, I'm carbon-based, OP.
And so are you.

Why do vegans make their food look like meat?
|
|
I'm omnivorous. Plants, fungi, animals, bugs, bacteria. Incidental consumption of viruses, archaea, plastics and non-biologically sourced silica (aka dust)...
Oh and boogers... Apparently most of the snot runs out to your throat. So everyone eats boogers without knowing it.
Pussy needs to be a food group.

I'm with you here, except i don't think anyone should be vegan for more than a few hours LOL. i was hardcore vegan for 8 years, fucked up my body / brain / spirit really badly. Intuitively ate Salmon, and felt my whole brain tingling like pins and needles all over within an hour. Been healing with LOTS of animal foods for the past 1.5 years and my health has drastically and hugely restored. i can't believe how long i stayed in it when the whole time i felt off. i couldn't function for 8 years, and those are 8 years I cannot get back. Yet i do everything in my power to educate people on my own story in the hopes that someone will not go vegan lol. good on you, happy you came out on the other side. gimme all da meats!

Would a nice salami work for you?
|
|
this is going off topic.
A push for vertically grown indoor foods have been touted as a better way to provide food.
Not only are eating other animals important for the nutrients that we need to thrive. Our plant based foods need not only the soil and all it living matter but also animals and the animal waste to fertilize to grow optimum foods.
It is a circle of life.

I'm strict Keto. Doubled my meat intake and got off Diabetic meds in a year, cholesterol and all that balanced out and I eat probably triple the eggs as I used to. Everything I purchase I try my best to find locally sourced, farm raised animals that I know had a good free life. I can't always accomplish it until I get out of Cali and start my mini farm but I'm doing my best. Vegan even if I had the remote inclination to be one, wouldn't be possible with all the carbs involved in it. I don't mind vegans existing, I mind when they become like Christians and try to shove their religion (save the animals) down your throat... But good for you OP. Glad you saw the light

JP looks like you have recovered quite well :-)
Adolf Hitler was a vegan and the Nazi's promoted eating less meat. We all know how that turned out.......

“Pussy needs to be a food group.” LOL
I’m all for being a Vaginatarian, now that I think we can all get behind!
|

It’s rare to hear about negative experiences with veganism, so this blog has definitely been a service to people.
I’ve read positive and negative things about keto as well. That it isn’t sustainable.
I do wonder what would be the right balance between eating animal protein/eggs/dairy and fruits/vegetables and starchy carbs.

@Jay... Dude. Awesome term. I love it. "I'm a vagitarian"
|

I can't understand why anyone would take health advice from the people on this site, especially the OP
|

@CoachMila I love this post, not because I’m for or against eating meat or being vegan, but because you were able to change your mind about something you once believed strongly. So difficult to entertain new ideas and admit we were once wrong. Really admire that you were able to overcome something you believed in but found to be destructive for you in some way. Pretty cool.
@YourCaptain So true about guacamole

And with that^, I'm deeply sorry for all I have influenced. I'm now happy that most of you men would never listen anyways. LOL
But ladies that have... even though it will create a nice figure, we need that animal fat to balance our hormones, collagen making and brain health! We need to mentally be on top of it all especially because we are social!!!!
And u don't want to lose your face structure over smoothie mouth.
Yes, I will address all the comments in the next 2 days w a part 2 if needed.
I'm humbled. Ya.....
Be back later, thanks to all for engaging.
