I was talking with a guy yesterday, his father is 105. Born in 1915. Can you imagine how hard it is for him to understand the world in 2020? He has experienced/watched the largest amount of cultural/economic/industrial/technological/social change in history.
We have two old white men running for President. Their ability to understand where we have been, absorb where we are and project where we should go is so limited.
We need elders. They help us with perspective... but a guy that can’t believe I can sit in my living room and say to no one in the room, “Alexa, order me a Dominos pepperoni pizza with extra cheese for delivery.” And 25 minutes later there is a knock at the door.... and he thinks it’s some sort of witchcraft... that guy can’t be President.

great story and perspective
not sure I've ever met someone that old...maybe 97? would definitely be an honor...time is pretty valuable when you get up there.

maybe you talked to son only
see it's pretty rare to meet someone that old

No. I only spoke with the son.
But I was imagining... let’s say he remembers 1922. How much has the world changed for him?
Can he understand/absorb what has happened over the last 20 years? Can you believe President Obama was elected 12 years ago?

In 1922... he could call a black man anything he wanted with no repercussions. He could take that man’s property... or force him to sell it to him way below market price.
A friend was telling me about his grandfather in Louisiana. In the late 1950’s white man down the road came by and told him he wanted to buy one of his hogs. He told him they weren’t for sale.
“You don’t understand, I came to buy that hog right there and I’m going to give you $10 for it. Now put it in my truck.”
That hog was worth $60. But his grandfather took the $10 and put it in the truck because it wasn’t worth the trouble it would have caused for him and his family.
