There are negatives anywhere you go. I've lived in California for 63 years except the four years in the military and I'm well settled into my lifestyle. It would be hard for me mentally to relocate. My sister moved to Phoenix 20 years ago and she's always talking about moving back but it's not financially feasible for her.

My mom worked for the post office and when she retired they had some retirement planning thing and one of the things they advised people when retiring was NOT to sell their home in Cali to move "back where they came from"
the advice from supposedly experts was if you want to move out of state, try it for a year while renting out your home cos if you change your mind, there's no coming back financially - if you sell in Cali you will not be able to afford to buy your home back

I retire in a few weeks im out, I always show people what I bought for 500k and what they could buy for 350k. and their jaw hits the ground.
I tell them live somewhere cheaper than you will have the $ to travel to California, Hawaii etc and then they will truly be actually be able to enjoy the weather.

Before covid I was all over the Earth, and Cali is a good centerpiece to come back to and reset.
