I don't understand what you're saying, UncleSpongeBob. Prop 209 literally says "state cannot discriminate based on ... ". Prop 16 now wants to repeal that.
In case there was any confusion, I'm against prop 16. And, yes, I am Korean. Another reason I'm against prop 16. It wouldn't just be disadvantageous to white ppl. It's also disadvantageous to Asians. Asian parents worked hard as immigrants to give their kids opportunities. And their kids worked hard to get good education. But if prop 16 passes, Asians can be discriminated against to give less performing students better opportunities.

Prop 16 essentially repeals true anti-discrimination legislation.
209 prohibits the discrimination against individuals based on race, color, sex, religion etc...
Basically says "you cant use any of the listed criteria to NOT hire a qualified candidate ". It eliminates race discrimination in the hiring process.
Measure 16 replaces this by saying in a nutshell "you MUST have a diverse work force"
This boils down to you must forego hiring a lot of qualified candidates because you need to staff.
It pushes affirmative action further down the road because it makes races race, color, sex, and religion a central requirement.

I will agree this blog topic is not upbeat.
IMHO measure 16 is a total step backwards from 209 which is meaningful legislation.
I recently was talking to my Nephew who is a church choir conductor at a large LA church. It was just after the woke mob announced they want "cancel" Beethoven's music for god only knows what reason.
He says these same people complain about how blacks are significantly underestimated in orchestra and Asians are overrepresented. Are we supposed to start listening to P-diddy performed by the orchestra?
It is what it is bro...
I dont want to go listen to a suckass orchestra on Christmas Eve that had to fill the violen and wind section with people who cant play in the name of diversity.

@Zeros. It's generally out there but there are a few assholes of all kinds of colors and creeds that won't hire based on your race, age, religion etc. Generally though in my little bubble of a world doing your best gets you hired or promoted 99% of the time.

Ageism is a thing and it is especially prevalent in IT.
I just turned 45 yesterday. Lots of companies would rather hire a fresh out of college, inexperienced dumb ass who will work for cheap just to have employment, rather than someone older with much more experience because reasons.

I wasnt accepted into UC Irvine because they had way too many asians already there. Instead I had to go to Stanford and pay a heftier tuition because my parents made too much to qualify for financial aid but too little to pay for my education. But Im not complaining because I got to tudor a lot of rich white kids on math to make ends meet.

I dunno how this thread got out of hand with ppl calling each other names. It seems like most of the ppl here agree Prop 16 is bad. You can't solve racism with more racism. I consider myself left leaning (both politically and my dick).
The only person, as far as I can tell, that supports prop 16 is FATFUCK. He says "Lets have less social / racial blogs" and "the results will be, mostly back and forth between the bigots." Yet he's he's going back and forth on this thread as well. So does that make you one of the bigots?
DrBoogie brings up a great point. If we're allowing laws to say there needs to be more blacks and mexicans in colleges and companies, should also say we need more asians in music, movies, and football? Can you imagine if a prime black athlete was passed over by the NFL/NBA for an inferior performing asian just to meet the diversity quota?
It seems the general consensus is hiring should be done on merit alone.

In summary , nothing that I said should lead anyone to believe that I support bigotry , or otherwise. My comments was based on observations... Simply put, this blog does nothing more than continually draw people against one another: bigots -vs- non bigots. And I suggested that more productive, entertaining , "something we don't know" blogs be created... It's bad enough as it is , that we have a president that feeds off of such divisions.

That's because those who defend Affirmative Action can't do so either on a moral or intellectual basis, so instead they ascribe ill intent to those whom they disagree with. That's the classic argumentation tactic of the left, which you see in action here.
