Actually so cal Edison thinks their equipment might has started this one.
In the end it really doesn't matter what started it. Hopefully the damage done is not to severe.
My house is in Carbon Canyon, on the north side of the hills from Yorba. It hasn't burned in over 100 years. If the fire comes over the hills Carbon Canyon will go up in flames.
On the other hand I've been paying for fire insurance for a long time so I'd get to use it and re-build the house the way I want it.
LOL Atticus.Yep, same here fire insurance is your friend. Hope your place and mine are not toast. Looks like right now the OC Fire Authority is doing a damn fine job.
"Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughin' as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you"
Uh, Directed Energy Weapons are real. You can modify or buy a laser that'll bring basic flammables up to ignition point. No special requirements just that you have $50 and want to be a dick. The US navy stationed a WW2 rust bucket with a laser in the Mediterranean a few years ago as a test bed. The Air Force's wish list for our next fighter is to have a fricken laser weapon (doubt it though).
Oh and a firearm is a DEW, chemical energy is translated into kinetic energy.
Take a bunch of mirrors, make it into a large parabola then aim it at something with malicious intent...also a directed energy weapon.
Now did this start the fire? Shrug; there's a crapton of work in the area being done by Edison at the time so I'm going with what they admitted.
Pembrush, this is not new concept, just new techniques.
Archimedes of Greece sunk a Roman invading fleet with highly polished shields and intense sunlight, burning them as they came into the harbor.

No really good re-routes around where I live for those toll roads aside from Santa Margarita Parkway.
The alt route from 241 to the 91 is Santiago Canyon Road but that's closed too so...just the main highways.
I think AF is sitting behind a control panel at a black ops site controlling a black ops spaced based laser. Probably started the whole thing himself by accident. Spilled coffee on the fire control systems.
@Dr. Doom. Myth Busters busted that one. By the time they got one ship to go up in flames the roman crew would have already unloaded the ship or one of the guys holding one of the shields said "fuck it, I'm loading a ballista with pitch."
Iβm definitely praying for all my OC guys and gals out there no one deserves to have to be evacuated or have the fear of losing their home over a fire. Please everybody stay safe out there.
Heheheh - sinister laugh as I twirl my fake handle bar mustache. (Fake cause I can't grow one)
I saw that and my neighbor called me earlier today to ask me if I needed anything removed from the house. Called a couple of friends and asked them to take the cars to my mom's, I've got 3 pre 70's/60's cars sitting in the detached garage in the back.
As far as it goes I've never had any problem getting paid by my insurance company on any claim I've put in before - and there have been a couple that were substantial. They've always paid pretty quickly. Course nothing as big as $300-$400k so we'll see how quick they'd respond on this.
The real problem would be cleaning up the lot to get it ready to build on again and then going through the permit process. But since I'm in San Berdu county and not in the city of Chino Hills it's a lot easier to get permits and prints approved, faster too. I've already got a set of prints for the new house, which I took down to the permit office a few years ago and got them pre approved, when I was thinking about doing a major remod - tearing the whole house down but leaving one wall standing. I'd have to update them to today's codes but I still have the CAD files so wouldn't be that big of deal.
As far as being homeless - I'd have to move back 'home' and live with my mom for about 9 months to a year.
THAT ... would be an utter nightmare!
The good news, if it can be called that, would be that people in the canyon wouldn't have to worry about fire again for awhile.
Personally I'm not that worried about it. If you live in a 'fire community' you better know that this is something that can happen at any time ... and probably will.
If my house goes up I REALLY hope it burns wild & hot and wipes out all the tracks in Chino Hills!
91 is pretty open wb, but normal afternoon traffic eb is a mess as always
the 91 is closed both ways to 241 and gypsum cyn rd
71 is open surprisingly, since that's really where the big fires are, up in the hills behind the quarry
I just passed by there on my way back tp anaheim
Wait, why is a naked ninja asking for open travel routes? She's a ninja; she can sneak through unseen. I smell a ruse; ninja's a sneaky that way.
On a side note; the police finally shut down access to a couple streets-- too many idiots parked on the side of the road watching the fire like it's a sporting event.
At least tomorrow I can return to the old homestead.
It's the fact that it exists at all is what's wrong with it.
When I was growing up we lived close to the 71 on Chino Ave., my mom still lives there, used to ride our horses up in the hills, go hiking, catch lizards and snakes and just spend tons of time hiking through them.
When I got my house in the canyon there was no chino hills and no tracks of houses just oaks and pasture and no traffic.
I prefer it that way then what it is now.
So if the fire jumps into the canyon and burns my house, as long as it burns down chino hills ... I'm cool with that.
