The Second Amendment could and should be amended.
We have too many guns in this country, and that has led to a lot of problems.

Bret Stephens: Repeal the Second Amendment
"Repealing the amendment may seem like political Mission: Impossible today, but in the era of same-sex marriage it's worth recalling that most great causes begin as improbable ones. Gun ownership should never be outlawed, just as it isn't outlawed in Britain or Australia. But it doesn't need a blanket constitutional protection, either. The 46,445 murder victims killed by gunfire in the United States between 2012 and 2016 didn't need to perish so that gun enthusiasts can go on fantasizing that Red Dawn is the fate that soon awaits us."
|
|
Ohhh please do... Go right ahead keep going wirh that.
|
|
"From a national security standpoint, the amendment's suggestion that a 'well-regulated militia' is 'necessary to the security of a free State' is quaint. The Minutemen that will deter Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are based in missile silos in Minot, N.D., not farmhouses in Lexington, Mass."
|
|
Good luck with that.

People didn't believe that civil rights would every pass at one point either.

Really? That is your hope and argument? Comparing the stripping Americans of a constitutional right with the guaranteeing rights to American citizens?
Just for shits and giggles... what is your plan to confiscate nearly 400,000,000 Legally owned firearms (not to mention the the estimated 10,000,000 illegal firearms)?

Many people have been stripped of their right to life because of the presence of so many guns. I’d value life over anything else.
I wouldn’t make all guns illegal. People can keep their guns. They just have to get licenses for them, like you would get to drive a car.
If you can’t get a license for various reasonable reasons, then your guns should be confiscated. It will take time, but it could happen like it did in Australia and Britain.

You do realize the vast majority (and I mean vast) of gun related deaths are committed by criminals.
And in most states... you must be cleared via a background check in order to own a firearm.
The cities/states with the toughest gun laws are also the leaders in gun deaths.
It’s not an issue of laws.

|
While you are at it. Dump the 1st Amendment.
That way the government can make all of our decisions which will make a whole bunch of people happy.
|
|
If you vastly reduce the number of guns in this country.—manufacturing and ownership — which could happen if you repealed the second amendment — then many fewer guns will be delivered into the hands of criminals.
The granting of licenses could be titrated better without a blanket second amendment to balance the desire for guns by law-abiding citizens and guns falling in the hands of criminals.
But all fifty states would have to work towards this goal of titration because loose gun licensure in one state could lead to guns getting in the hands of criminals in other states. It is possible we could end up with the same problem we have now.

“ While you are at it. Dump the 1st Amendment.”
Never
|
|
Dump one of them dump them all
After all the politicians know what's best for everyone.
|
|
Maybe we should ban cars. They kill a lot more people than guns.
|
|
Ban cigarettes they kill 480, 000 a year.
How many was it that guns kill?
If you want to have a positive impact start with a big things.
Explain how 480,000 is not large enough to be an issue.
|
|
Secondhand smoke is a serious health hazard causing more than 41,000 deaths per year.

@Night Rider
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..."
This has nothing to do with Putin or China, or even Canada for that matter!
What it has everything to do with is tyranny. Tyranny that resides at the seat of our federal government, and in places like Sacramento, Albany, Lansing, Salem, and Olympia.
That...and to protect life and property during periods of domestic non-tranquility (like the day after Trump's reelection).
|
|
You know, I also wanted to mention that 62% of firearm deaths are suicides.
So of all the deaths by firearm, 6 out of 10 are intentionally self inflicted.
Do you think anyone who would blow their own brains out would be deterred from killing themselves if no gun was available? Razor blade to the veins, hanging, car over a cliff, overdose, helium tank and bag over the head, jumping off a building, and countless other ways that can never be regulated away!
Guns are not the problem. People are the problem.

Yes I think it’s time to take away/ make it illegal to posses a firearm! Just look at how well that has worked out in Mexico! Not to any have been killed down there in recent years ads result of fierarm violence!!
|
|
So true with Juarez as an example
|
|
This is much trickier than I thought. How do you allow law abiding citizens to keep their guns while at the same time reducing the sheer quantity of guns in the country to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands? I realize now it may not be as simple as getting rid of the second amendment.
|
|
Why would you attem0ot a discussion with a guy that doesn't even know his own "area of inexpertise"? @NR is so screwed up, he's unable to think rationally.
If life is so valuable, why not campaign for a national 3 mph speed limit. No knives, machetes, ladders or bathtubs in the household.....even 1 death is too many, right?
Should we not forbid lockdowns due to pandemics?
How does a couple million dead compare to the 130 million that are now starving to death from the lockdowns? Maybe its better to die of Covid than lack of food?
If outlawing guns were the answer, wouldn't Chicago and New York be the safest cities in America?
Simple minded fuck should just end it and allow the rest of us to just muddle thru the best we can without his input.

"Yes I think it’s time to take away/ make it illegal to posses a firearm! Just look at how well that has worked out in Mexico! Not to any have been killed down there in recent years ads result of fierarm violence!!"
The problem is having a neighbor that has a shitload of guns. They can easily fall into the wrong hands.
That's always the problem. Illinois might have super strict gun laws, but guns can make their way into Illinois from neighboring states with not-so-strict gun laws.
I do have a problem getting rid of gun ownership for people who are responsible. I don't think that's right, but that makes reducing gun volume a lot more difficult.

Somebody hack @NR's account?

"How does a couple million dead compare to the 130 million that are now starving to death from the lockdowns? Maybe its better to die of Covid than lack of food?"
Misinformation
|

NR...i too struggle with understanding the universe...no matter how many docs i watch
had all the guns back in the 70's...made our own shotgun shells, we were shooting so much...that shit did not translate to adult life...everyone in family has all types of guns...I have zero...think my wife has one though her grandpa gave her...she has not idea how to use it though...that i know of

Not at all, completely true
You think the lockdown has not affected the lowest rung of world society the hardest?
Enough with your progressive idiocy.
If it's a fact you don't like, it doesn't exist or it's misinformation.
As I've said many times, people like you are a danger to humanity.
|
|
thought if i was going to join the Proud Boys...i might need to get a paintball gun...think they would deny me though on that masturbation clause

"Not at all, completely true"
That was the fear back in April when we actually had lockdowns. It hasn't happened yet.
|
|
So let's make sure not to have any more lockdowns like we had back in April/May by wearing masks, and social distancing to bring the level of new cases down and then use testing, tracing, and quarantining to keep levels down.
Use the Defense Production Act to manufacture and distribute millions of COVID testing kits, like Biden suggests. We would never need to lockdown again and could further open up the economy.

I just did a search, and found that suicides by firearms outnumber homicides by firearms.
"Nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides. The U.S. gun suicide rate is 10 times that of other high-income countries.
Access to a gun triples the risk of death by suicide. Gun suicides are concentrated in states with high rates of gun ownership.
White men represent 74 percent of firearm suicide victims in America.
Black Americans represent the majority of gun homicide victims. In fact, Black Americans are 10 times more likely than white Americans to die by gun homicide."
" In 2017, the most recent year of data available, there were nearly 40,000 gun deaths –109 every single day. Three in every five gun deaths are suicides and more than one-third are homicides, while the remainder are unintentional, unknown intent, or law enforcement intervention."
"Gun homicides get far more attention in the popular press, but most gun deaths are the result of suicide. In 2016, the last year for which the CDC provides numbers, 22,938 people committed suicide by firearm, while 14,415 people died in gun homicides."
|
|
Totally true
Not to mention the other 20 ways that more people will die, suicides, lower level of cancer screenings, increased drug usage and overdose, etc etc
Are you so stupid that you don't understand the chain of events that's put millions at the brink of starvation in the world today? It is true and you're not helping, simply because you don't want to be seen as wrong about lockdowns. It's that simple............. same old impaired judgement.
|
|
"Use the Defense Production Act to manufacture and distribute millions of COVID testing kits, like Biden suggests. We would never need to lockdown again and could further open up the economy."
Biden suggests, lol. He can hardly remember his name or where he is.
Much more elaborate plans with budgets have been suggested than this.
You must identify with Biden's lack of good judgement.
Kinda 2 peas in a pod thing?

^As I've said in another thread, suicides are actually lower this year than the same time last year. There are a bunch of papers on this. Look it up.
We didn't lockdown for long enough to have these problems to the horrible degree you suggest. Our economy was working at 50% even during the worst months.
We haven't been in lockdown since May.
Lockdowns were necessary for a brief period of time 1. because we didn't know how bad things were going to be, and 2. to prevent overflows in the hospitals and save lives. And they worked.

It's only Irvine, no great loss
Is there anything left to burn in LA?

i'm a lil befuddled on the whole DPA and testing thing that biden is going to do?? so the drug companies have been holding back on "the better" testing to help the country and making money?
my wife's involved in the schools and sports leagues...they have a contact tracing protocol in place...haven't needed to use it yet and they are fucking active...BUT are you saying biden has a better one to use that will stop the spread and subsequent deaths??
|
|
"And they worked"
Yes, they workjed to decimate the businesses and lives of the poorest and most vulnerable people in this country, immigrants and blue color workers living paycheck to paycheck, in order to save the least vulnerablle........knowledge workers and college students.
And, the ripple effect around the world of the decrease in economic output will kill 10 times the number that Covid does.

You are on a roll, USB.
|
|
Every comment NR makes, just confirms how uniformed he is. Back to CNN kit car guy.
|
|
USB, you sound like a Republican?
You voting for Orange man?
|
|
suicides lower? there was a cdc report that under 25yr olds were are about 25 percent thinking about it.
maybe some of the doctor moved some of the suicides to covid...no testing required until september 1st on this kinda thing
if they were indeed lower...you gotta imagine they will be doubling in the next year...drgs and alcohol use are thru the roof now...kinda lends itself to raising those numbers
