New economic super group

For those of us who have business interests overseas, this is worrisome.

“ The signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at a regional summit in Hanoi, is a further blow to the group pushed by former U.S. president Barack Obama, which his successor Trump exited in 2017.

.......

RCEP groups the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. It aims in coming years to progressively lower tariffs across many areas.

The deal was signed on the sidelines of an online ASEAN summit held as Asian leaders address tensions in the South China Sea and tackle plans for a post-pandemic economic recovery in a region where U.S.-China rivalry has been rising.”

I just got the word this morning that my business partners in Asia May be reassessing our agreements because of this, as they see they have more leverage.

So much for “so much winning.”

OK... I guess you could call Asian Web Cam Girls with your credit card number “business partners.”

funny how your partners were quiet on this until @Biden was projected to win the election.

BIden is going to be weak on foreign policy in asia, because the Chinese have Biden by the balls.

so yea good luck in your business if BIden takes over..

have fun

lol @ Sherkahn, who is literally wrong on every blog, doling out global. macro economic advice. No wonder your SE Asia partners want to renegotiate with you, even when you're sitting on the world's greatest economy and consumer market.

Tell me more. Please.

In practical terms, for example GDP on a Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) basis, China Is a bigger economy than the US. China’s GDP PPP took over that of the US during 2014. Many more customers and consistently higher growth rates. I’ve visited China regularly since the 1980’s and It’s amazing what they have achieved. You can make a case that a portion of that was at the expense of the US but the 1950’s & 60’s US benefits of having our main competitors economic infrastructure destroyed in the war wasn’t going to last forever. Once the Germans, and Japanese rebuilt, Korea emerged and then the Chinese stopped slaughtering each other It was always going to be tougher. The world (Not the environment) certainly benefitted from all the Cheap goods.
The Chinese are very confident that the will be the global economic superpower in the 21st century and its hard to see them failing. Of course they have demographic challenges but there are ways around that, like partnerships with SEA countries ( like RCEP). I just wish we were as focused, could develop plans like ‘Belt and road’, and execute them, but of course we are incapable of that.....

This is all Trump’s fault, as his backing out of trade groups and causing a trade war with China has given excuse for foreign partners to seek business elsewhere or demand more for services to US.

In my own business experience, I was doing well with the Bush and Obama administration’s the. Trump shot it all to hell.

"The Chinese are very confident that the will be the global economic superpower in the 21st century and its hard to see them failing"

Many said the same about the former Soviet Union.
Demographics will crush them this century.
And, their male population may be sterile from pollution within the next 30 years
The province of Hubei hid the production of 50 million tons of steel from Beijing, which is the annual output of Germany.
Their economy is bigly overleveraged to vacant unproductive real estate
There is very little price mechanism to even run an efficient economy
And, Xi will fuck shit up at some point

But, yeah.....I'm sure it'll all work out great
At least they got Biden by the balls

Ha, no, I was on a conference call with his lackey’s for one of his properties and I remember that as soon as his name was mentioned in the deal the asshole interrupted from the background and asked if my colleagues and I were kissing his ass yet, the person in the phone said no and he yelled at his people to “hang the fuck up.”

We were asked to meet in FL to repair the business deal, flew all the way out there and waited all day at the golf resort. And they kept us there at the front door juuust to fuck with us, and then cancelled the deal because we “never showed up.”

The recovery from the ‘08 economic meltdown happened during the Obama/Biden era. A lot of hard work and sacrifice made it happen.

Trump took the nation back, and when the second lock down hits you can pray to your god Trump and thank him for the misery you have been desperately craving.
