The story is a little misleading--seems was in rural parts of Europe, not US and 25% of participants faced social hardships (homeless) or mental challenges or were sex workers and those had most STIs.
What I see is:
1. they were afraid to get tested because thought people would judge them if they were infected. (don't see that here)
2. They were not using protection because many were out of long term monogamous relationships (just not well informed)
3. They were not talking about it or getting educated because of taboos (this blog is the opposite of that)
So discuss, research, use protection, get tested....
