I know!
Trump got caught taking bribes for presidential pardon’s.
He is so fucked. Beyond fuckety fuck fuck fucked!
“ The Justice Department is investigating a potential crime related to funneling money to the White House or related political committee in exchange for a presidential pardon, according to court records unsealed Tuesday in federal court.
The case is the latest legal twist in the waning days of President Donald Trump's administration after several of his top advisers have been convicted of federal criminal charges and as the possibility rises of Trump giving pardons to those who've been loyal to him.
The disclosure is in 20 pages of partially redacted documents made public by the DC District Court on Tuesday afternoon. The records show Chief Judge Beryl Howell's review in August of a request from prosecutors to access documents obtained in a search as part of a bribery-for-pardon investigation.”

Op,
Civics and for that matter American History is often not taught in the American schools systems any more. And if it is taught it is done in a manner consistent with the dumbing down of our country which has been happening for decades.
I know a lot of people with advanced degrees that have no clue when it comes to civics, geography and... well... common sense.

The crown looked at this as 13 separate business interests that were going to increase its world wide holdings. The founding fathers had to strike a deal so everyone felt they had stake in this thing. Do you really think the colonists all thought slaves were 3/5ths of a person or was it a negotiated point so the southerners didn't dominate the house? Plus the moneyed interests were the only one people who were educated and the thought of true equality where the masses could elect someone like Trump worried them. There are other holdovers in our thinking still today. The portions of the hearsay evidence exclusion are based on the fact that most people could not read or write at that time. A written record was not deemed reliable unless it was a business record because if used for business the court could allow it in subject to cross examination since the writer surely would know how read and write if that was part of his business.
Just because the electoral college was adopted then does not mean it was part of a great plan that must be kept now, unless any of you out there are suggesting we designate certain groups to be slaves so the economy would improve. By making the rich richer we don't have to make to many adjustments to accomplish it.

He beauty of the electoral college is it weighs votes rather than counting them. It makes politicians who desire to be President of the United States pay attention to the entire country rather than just focus on population centers where the majority of votes are. It keeps the values of rural areas from being completely drowned out by the cities, while at the same time giving due weight to the population centers.
God help us if we are ever subjected to the tyranny of a straight majority.
It really is a brilliant system... until it doesn’t work in your favor.
It’s a little like the 2nd Amendment. An armed militia of citizens cannot stop a federally funded army from strong arming the population. It’s just enough to give pause.
The electoral college makes politicians think about Minnesota AND Mississippi and not just California, New York, Texas and Florida.

^ Indeed. But 2 Dakota's, really? What might have made some sense in the 18th century seems to me to be inappropriate today. Isn't a greater danger than "tyranny of a straight majority" that the most wealth generating and populous states (and DC) are held hostage by a diminished and unrepresentative few? How much more weight should the vote of a Wyomingite have over a Californian?

millions vote in CA and feel the same way...vote don't matter...i might be up for california breaking apart...might be only thing that can save it...would be a great experiment
CA/NY 30 percent of the way to 270 without any need for campaigning
FL/TX seem up in the air every election for 25 percent, or need to work really hard for it

Loved my 1995 2 door civic ex. Lowered, air filter and exhaust with a 5 in muffler tip.
Just to answer my own question, currently a voter in Wyoming has nearly exactly 3 times the weight of a voter in Californian in the electoral collage. See attached for a fun calculator.
add up some states like FL, vermont, hawaii...does it help equal it out?
my vote in CA is worthless
I find this blog somewhat patronizing. Of course we all know what the electoral college is. Some of us simply believe that the system of choosing a President should be done directly via popular vote.
@Doom bribes for presidential pardons????? where the fuck are you getting your news from Mad Magazine..
okay so let me get this straight, a billionaire, needs bribes because, money!!!!
sigh!!!!!!!
If you believe this shit, you won't be in business for long, whatever you do for a living it will be gone by 2023

*via popular mail in vote
if we went off the popular vote in california then half the country would not matter..
its so dumb and arrogant to think that california's vote should be more important than other states.
IF that were the case then what would be the point of some of these smaller states even being in the union. They would have zero representation, and would be dictated too by New York and California
1 person, 1 vote. Doesn't get simpler than that.
"its so dumb and arrogant to think that california's vote should be more important than other states."
The way it is now is that some people's votes are more important than other people's votes.
Demographic change is eventually going to make this issue moot anyway probably.

@vss4
Trump is $231 million in debt. He is compromised.
too funny...he might have to live on his gov't pension...does he get that in jail?
again I don't see how you are in business @DOOM
yea he may have 231 million in debt, but guess what, he was in the real estate business before he became president and all that debt is mortgages on property.
his debt would be a problem if he defaulted on his debt .
let me make it a little more simpler for you, right now I owe 1100.00 dollars of credit card debt.
I make far more than what I actually owe..
I make payments on the debt and it is in good standings
it would only be a problem, IF I DEFAULTED ON THE DEBT OR COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY THE DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe you will get it maybe you won't
SMH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“How much more weight should the vote of a Wyomingite have over a Californian?”
Well.... technically... California has 18 times the influence of Wyoming.
“ 1 person, 1 vote”
And that is how it works.
We have ONE national office that everyone votes for... and since we are in a Federal system... each state votes for the President.
Now... if you would like to do like Maine and Nebraska and divide electoral votes by congressional district... I would be for that.
California would become much more competitive that way.
just some lil talking point he heard today somewhere
he has 2.7 to 3billion in property assets...each property is listed and analyzed by many many experts to come to a value for each....the total debt is less than the property values...yes there are personal guarantees or cross secured loans
just maybe all the libs can boycott and drive the values down to point where they don't cover the debt...that could be a great day for many of you
Wow, there are some real dummies in the crowd tonight.
One person, one vote, majority rules is
EXACTLY why the old fuckers designed this Rube Goldberg contraption the way it is
What part of "dispersion of power" don't you get?
Or "tyranny of the majority"?
Better that we all hate each other and yell a lot than start shooting, right?
Although, there's some very good indications that some of you could take a bullet to the head and not notice the difference.........dumb as fuck some of you are

fuck it...I have all my paint guns and ammo from failed proud boys application

NR,
You might find this blog patronizing. But you are in the minority. According to one of those links I provided you only 26% of American adults can name the three branches of the federal government.
I imagine the percentage that can actually tell you much about the electoral college is even lower.
a month ago...listening to the zoom lessons for one that is in 5th...they were learning about the three branches of our government...kinda cool
@Sxyvictoria, where were you back, before the election. If you had posted that pic before, the election, Trump would have won California 😍
Damn sxyvictoria, you are so hot!
