Not Petty, Common Courtesy goes a long way. Entitlement doesn't.
Too bad you have to wait another 365 Days to see and probably expect what's going to happen.

Went through this years ago myself. My sister was sending pieces of crap that looked like thrift store throwaways, without much packing material. Half the shit was broken, nothing was wrapped.
They have been sending you a message, and you have been sending one back (by repeatedly sending presents and expecting something from them).
You don't like the messages? I don't blame you! And good for you.
So I stopped. Glad I did it. Was not worth trying to be both sides of a relationship. It takes two.

Oh yeah, meant to also say that she would only send something after we had sent something. Usually arrived in late Dec or early Jan.

They have never sent anything and I don't expect anything.

^ Yes, you expect nothing...except the thank you. It is tricky to give (and only give) when the societal norm is around reciprocity, like at Christmas.
It is a tough situation, for sure, but I think you have the right idea. Will be interesting to hear what they do in response. Or not.
