If you would have done some research you would know that if your under the age of 70 you have a .7% chance of dying from covid. Yes survival rate is like at 99.3% for those who get covid-19 under the age of 70. If you're over the age of 70 your chances of dying from covid are 7%, which means you have a 93% chance of survival, according to the CDC. Most deaths from covid are due to people having co-morbidity which means they had another significant health issue prior to getting covid-19.
The average is 2.3 different health issues that person had prior to contracting covid.
So in covid we have a disease that is like the cold or the flu(whatever happened to the cold and the flu, that has sort of disappeared since covid showed up), which can also kill you by the way. Yet all that time there were no lockdowns and there were no mask wearing. We as humans just learned to live with it. So why is covid any different? If the death rate is so low?

If it is the same as a cold or flu, why has it killed 330,000 Americans? A really bad year of the flu kills about 60,000. If we had done nothing, it’s likely the death toll would be around 2 million.

@Harpooner first look at what Cuomo and some of those other Governors did early on with covid and how they took old folks who were treated for covid, not cured mind you and had them admitted into nursing homes. The body bags piled up in those places and is the real reason why New York had the highest deathrate for covid.
You also have to take into account that there are alot of ppl that died of other causes and on there death certificate it was marked covid.
I have a friend whose partner drowned in a pool and died. On that persons death certificate it says he died of covid. I have heard of other instances of this as well. I had a conversation with another person that told me he had a friend die in a motorcycle accident and again on his death certificate it said cause of death covid.
Also 18 million people last year died of heart disease, yet I do not see anyone saying we should ban Mc Donalds or junk food. Where is the regulation for the amount of sugar and fat in food???

McDonalds is not contagious, and eaten in moderation is alright. A virus as contagious as covid doesn’t follow guidelines, it just does what it does.

For those who think that just because they got Covid, they are now bullet proof/ immune to it, think again. With the mutations, there are new strains of the Covid virus and if you survived the first illness, there's no guarantee you'll survive a second illness.
It's been documented and a proven fact that people can get Covid more than once.
It happened recently to my cousin who was hospitalized on her 2nd illness. She is ok but she's like many, thought that we was now immune to it all. wrong.

I just got over covid. Symptoms were basically a sever flu (mostly bodyaches). I've actually had flus worse than covid.
If my symptoms are typical (e.g. 99% of cases for ppl under 70), I feel like we overreacted with the businesses shutting down. I don't think we overreacted with the masks, social distancing, and washing hands. Those are minor inconveniences in order to reduce transmissions and possible death. It's a shame about the businesses, though. So many people's livelihoods have been ruined.
vss4 is right about the fear of reinfections. There have been documented cases where people are reinfected, but those cases are very rare. That's been documented by medical articles and the CDC. The only glimmer of hope people have right now is that there's a vaccine. But if vaccination's a false hope because the virus can mutate and once vaccinated, we can get infected with a different strain of coronavirus, then we'll just have to learn to live with the reality of this virus. Same way we've lived with the flu (of course, with more care). We're not going to live shut down forever because a virus is killing 1% of the population.
The ONLY reason why states are able to issue lockdowns is because of the hope of a vaccine. People are willing to put up with lockdowns because it's temporary. If this vaccine doesn't work (i.e. virus mutates), then there is no answer other than to "just be careful".

This is misleading information. Deaths that the virus contributes to are 100%, not 6%, because you end up with either pneumonia or ARDS that you wouldn't have had if you didn't have the virus. If you have a preexisting condition like asthma, you are more likely to die too. You wouldn't have died if not for the COVID. These explain why 100% of deaths attributed to COViD are due at least in part to COVID. They wouldn't have happened otherwise.
We WILL end up this year with a greater number of total deaths than previous years. It's already been noted there are an excess of deaths (see link). This was ignored in the Johns Hopkins finding you cite.
Also, the supposed reduction of deaths viewed in the spring was a part of a seasonal pattern, and not likely a sign of misattribution. The Johns Hopkins study was wrong.

This is incorrect. The science of COVID is constantly changing and sometimes not clear. The two issues Fauci is being blamed for is his stance on masks and herd immunity. On masks, we originally thought that COVID was a disease spread mostly by symptomatic people, and there were limits on PPE's so Fauci's policy on masks was that we didn't need them. Then, we found out that COVID is likely spread much more that we thought by presymptomatic people who don't know they are sick. So our policy on masks changed to account for this.
It's a guessing game to come up with what percentage of people are needed to reach herd immunity. We really don't know how much we will ultimately need, so the error values are large. It can be anywhere from 70-85%. Fauci has sometimes said 70-75% and sometimes said 80%. He didn't simply make statistics up based on opinion polls. There are no opinion polls on herd immunity anyway. He thought Americans might balk at the higher numbers at first, so he kept them lower, but then started quoting 80% figures eventually. There really is nothing wrong with this. It's not like it's going to change the outcome of anything anyway.

There is some good news on the immunity front. There was a study in the New England Journal of Medicine that showed that it is very hard to get reinfected if you have sufficient antibodies for COVID-19. Over a 6 month period, health workers with and without the presence of COVID-19 antibodies were PCR tested for COVID. 223 health workers who didn't have antibodies vs 2 health workers who did were found to have positive PCR tests.
So, if you have the antibodies, it's very hard to get reinfected. That's one problem with getting the virus vs. the vaccine. Not everyone who gets COVID ends up with sufficient antibodies, particularly i f you were asymptomatic. But data has shown that the vaccine produces a response where you will get sufficient antibodies and are likely protected from reinfection, at least for a while. We don't know how long the antibodies last, so either we would need booster shots, or if we reach herd immunity in time throughtout the world, we could potentially make COVID-19 go exinct.

I'm not a fan of the lockdowns, but transmission was clearly rocketing up sky high in November, and we needed to do something about it to prevent hospitals from being inundated. When hospitals get clogged up, that's when you start seeing a lot of death, like what happened in New York earlier this year. So we had to do something about it. So we did. If you google "COVID" and "California", you see that new cases are starting to plateau and maybe come down a little too (except for the holdover of data due to Christmas). So it's possible the lockdowns are working. There could be other explanations as well.
I pray with the vaccines coming and things getting warmer in February that this will be our last lockdown.

that is not true, that is not what happened in New York. In New York the hospitals were not filled to capacity. The whole point of lockdowns was to make sure that hospitals did not become filled with patients so that the curve would be flattened. It was suppose to be for only 15 days.
The curve was flattened and democrat governors just continued the lockdowns and began issuing unconstitutional edicts.
Now back on what happened in New York was caused by an edict by Govenor Cuomo.
Govenor Cuomo gave an order that no Covid patient that was treated for covid could be turned away from a nursing home.
Nursing homes if you know are places where old people live that cannot take care of themselves. They often have some health conditions that require special attention.
Old folks that got covid and were treated, NOT CURED WERE PUT INTO NURSING HOMES AND THE NURSING HOMES HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE THEM!!!!!!!!!
as a result MANY PEOPLE DIED IN NURSING HOMES IN NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hospitals did get overwhelmed in New York. I have heard doctors claim that was a reason for excess deaths. Don't know if that's true. The main problem New York had was super high transmission from having such a high population density. LA has a similar problem when it comes to high population density. We don't want LA to become another NY. Hence, the lockdowns.

For example in one case guy is shot ultimately dies from the gun shot wound. He’d tested positive for COVID but that pesky bullet killed him... there are tons of other scenarios where the systems been manipulated!
