In the 53 year I've been riding I've known quite a few people that have died from motorcycle accidents but so far no one from covid19.

The death certificates I've seen has three places for cause of death. Covid is usually the first , then two other under lying causes.
It has been reported that Hospitals get paid more Ins money with covid being the primary cause.

it wasn't til november of this year that, someone I actually knew had contracted covid. And that person said he felt tired for a couple of days and had some flu like symptoms. The rest of the time of his 14 day quarantine he was just bored...
before that I had not met anyone whom had contracted covid

Mostly people over 55 92% of covid deaths are from people over 55
8% of covid deaths are from people 54 and younger.
5% 45-54
2% 35-44
1% under 34
Young people are not dying from covid.
If you are younger than 19, you have about a 0.2% of dying of covid.
You are more likely to die of other causes than covid, if you are under 25.
Like a motorcycle accident!
Yet healthy working age people have to lose their businesses and jobs
and can't attend school to save old people.

The latest from the LA Times:
"Hospitals are so inundated that they’ve resorted to placing patients in conference rooms or gift shops. Some are contending with aging and insufficient infrastructure that threatens to interrupt the flow of life-saving oxygen."
I should note that hospitals getting filled up will prevent people from getting care and could potentially raise all of those death statistics you quote.

@NR awhile back Trump sent a hospital ship and beds were set up in the
LA convention center but then were dismantled and the ship sent away.
So now there is an outbreak and where is the ship now and why not
use the convention center now? I guess it's now too late.
Other states are not as strict as NY and CA and yet are managing
the virus. You don't destroy your economy and way of life to save
lives. You have to find some balance.
There is the continued argument that the cure is worse than the disease..
It's like using a sledge hammer to pound in a nail rather than just
using a ordinary hammer. The sledge hammer will do the job but look at
the amount of damage it causes to the surrounding area.
Again where is the science that justifies continued restrictions.
Show me the analysis that justifies continued restrictions.
LA county health officials couldn't provide it to a judge.
As a side note, it certainly will get interesting when Joe Biden
takes over and see how he plans to deal with the virus and
his family's ties to China and other foreign governments.
For those of you who thought Trump was BAD, Biden
will let things get worse.

Well, we really don't have much of a choice in terms of lockdowns. Are you just going to do nothing and let our hospitals get inundated? Anything that reduces person to person contact is going to reduce transmission by definition, and we need unfortunately right now to take more extreme measures due to the hospital situation. Other wise we take the chance that things are going to be a lot worse.
Clearly, the underlying conditions in Florida and California are different. California has significantly more highly dense population areas than Florida. I counted 25 vs 7 on the list of the top 100 cities. This would have a huge detrimental effect on transmission of the virus. (New York area is much higher than both by the way). With many more densely populated areas, California will have many more dense household situations, also contributing to significantly more transmission that what you would find in Florida.
The point is there are underlying factors you are not accounting for that makes comparing Florida to California much harder than you think.
Florida is not doing so much better than California. They just reported more than 8,000 new coronavirus cases on Monday, along with the highest percent positive and positivity the state has seen since Aug 12. They had the third highest number of new cases today in the 50 states.
Florida isn't completely free of restrictions either. While restaurants and bars are open, people in certain cities like Miami Beach need to wear masks and social distance. Mayors are making up somewhat for the lax regulations made by the governor.
California lockdowns may be starting to work. New cases over the state have been decreasing over the past 9 days. (See link).

Here is a paper from Nature that showed how the "lockdown" policies established throughout the world during March and April of that year worked at significantly reducing transmission and preventing infections:
"We find that anti-contagion policies have significantly and substantially slowed this growth. Some policies have different effects on different populations, but we obtain consistent evidence that the policy packages that were deployed to reduce the rate of transmission achieved large, beneficial and measurable health outcomes. We estimate that across these 6 countries, interventions prevented or delayed on the order of 61 million confirmed cases, corresponding to averting approximately 495 million total infections. These findings may help to inform decisions regarding whether or when these policies should be deployed, intensified or lifted, and they can support policy-making in the more than 180 other countries in which COVID-19 has been reported"

I don't know anyone who died from covid-19, but I'm also able to pay people to bring me food and supplies. I don't need to venture outside of my house to survive. Most people aren't as fortunate and have to risk exposure daily. And it's these people who are getting infected and probably infecting others in their household who are vulnerable.

Percentage of people infected by population 5.67%
Florida has half the cases because it has half the population. But it's infection rate is slightly is worse. If Florida had 73,000 cases less it would be doing the same as California as a percentage of population. Jupiter has no covid protocols and their cases are 0 so that proves doing nothing is best!!

You do realize that slowing the spread did not mean that you could delay a large rate of infectuon at some point in time in the future (now and going forward) . I hope we are at the worst rate of infection we will ever see, but I dont think that is the case .... I also dont think lockdowns are working....just my observation.

Slowing the spread helps hospitals handle it. Slowing the spread allows the vaccine to get out to more people before infection. If everyone followed the guidelines it would work a lot better. Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation out there being spread by the President and his cultists and not everyone follows the rules. I know people who had everyone tested before a party and someone tested positive after words so everyone was exposed. They thought they could cheat and it didnt work. Read an article that says the iuncubation can be up to 5 weeks. So you mnay have it and test for 4 weeks and be fine and test positive on the 5th week. Not sure of the accuracy on it...I am saying we are still learning about this thing and the guidelines are based on current knowledge.
Wearing a mask doesnt protect you...it protects everyone from you. So people not wearing a mask because they dont care if they get it....get it...and then spread it openly.

Hospitals and the regulations they adhere to make it very hard for them to handle surges of anykind to existing ICU's. Even after what we saw in NY earlier this year we have not seemed to be particularly concerned with increasing capacity... Anyone notice any Javitz ctr style field hospitals being erected or Governors DEMANDING federal attention to matters that when provided go completely ignored.
The virus is real the concern and requests for aid by leaders is fake(then and now). Otherwise you'd think that we would be seeing emergency measures being taken in a more public fashion.
Just my .02 cents.

You know, a good point to be raised is why didn't California increase ICU and hospital capacity all these months during the pandemic? Epidemiologists predicted the winter was going to be difficult, so why didn't this get done? Was the inability to get more health care providers during this time the problem? You think it would be more cost effective to do this than to lock things down more to flatten the curve.
