Had she made it, her presence would have taken away officers from continuing to barricade the door and the chaos would have exploded.

And they interrupted an in-session Congress, caused session to be adjourned, elected reps to fear for their safety and lives, and need to be evacuated.
They intentionally and willfully tried to interfere with the orderly transfer of power and democratic election process of the USA. There is no doubt that was their goal.
They broke and entered halls of Congress and the offices of elected reps, vandalized, and stole property.
There is evidence they were trying to grab the electoral ballots. Weapons and bombs were found.
Nothing like this has happened on US soil since 1800;s when a foreign power was trying to smash the US Government.

The FBI had alerted that white supremist right wing groups were this countrys greatest threat. Yet the government knew that just such groups were coming to DC at Trumps behest. They knew Trump had invited them. Yet the police presence for mainly white mob was really minimal. I rarely agree with Happyguy... but what happened yesterday was an assault on our republic. I was all for allowing Trump and his supporters to exhaust all legal options to challenge the validity of the outcome. Hey, they want to protest... have at it.
But when you stop “the people’s” business by force... when you damage one of the main symbols of our democracy... you must be dealt with.

These people took to the streets because they felt like the system was failing them... and they needed to do something.
Most of these people were the same people questioning why and how others were protesting last year.
Now... they may understand how the “feeling” (valid or not) can drive people to the streets... and then how easily a “mob mentality” can produce action that wouldn’t normally happen.

Nobody is defending them......I think many of us are trying to point out the blatant hypocrisy that exists in this country. People have stormed a Federal court house, a couple of police precincts, politicians homes, churches, hundreds if not thousands of businesses, dozens of statues, and we never heard this huge outcry during any of those instances.
Yes, this is somewhat different, but when we do not speak out against ALL violence, we are in fact condoning some....which leads us down a terrible path.
