Yep, the inclusionary left who want to 'unite' is now moving quickly to censor and stomp out any opposition possible. Cancelling Josh Hawley's book is a further example.
Wake up America, your rights are eroding!
|
|
FB, Twitter, HX and other social media networks are private businesses. You don't have a 1st Amendment right on their platforms. If they decide something is harmful or not tolerated it's well within their rights to block it.
Just like Parler isn't allowing the word "lost" to be used in replies to Trump's posts on that platform. No joke.
|
|
Has the irony of all this whining not dawned on you yet? Trump-ism is a product of those social networks you claim are censoring everything. How do you think Q, election fraud, and other conspiracies spread if not through FB, Youtube, Twitter, etc?
Ok, I'm gonna go bake something now.
|
|
Yes, they are private businesses and as such must be able to be sued for their decisions and actions. Time for their section 230 protections be eliminated.
|
|
On the bright side, we fuck some of the same women.
|
|
I have mixed feelings about 230, but probably counter to your reasoning.
If they can be sued for speech on their site they would have banned many of the voice you hold dear long ago. Why would they allow them if it exposes them to litigation?
I'm for removing 230 because extreme speech that promotes violence or conspiracies isn't good for society as a whole (hello anti-vaxx) even if some like it.

I thought I read where 65 percent of the population gets their news from social media...then you have the situations like hunter happen and they squash it and SAY sorry after the election
is that a good thing? they just put their thumb on the scale to make help one side win...what is that worth in campaign finance?
ALL their mistakes are for the liberal side of things...how many times do they get to say sorry after the fact?
|
|
^ The other problem is that the people getting their 'news' from social media sites are only getting the views that they agree with i.e. they're in a HUGE echo chamber.
I get mine from a lot of different sources but I make sure to listen to all points of view from radical left to radical right to center left and center right.
Why?
Because you can't make a decision unless you know, or at least attempt to know, the whole story not just what you want to hear.

lol have you forgotten the NYTimes role in propagating Cheney's talking points to start the Iraq war? How about their headline on the "Hillary Emails" shortly before the 2016 election, which proved to be a non-issue?
Do some major media institutions have a progressive bias? Yea, I think so. LGBTQ rights for example. Do some media institutions trade access for coverage? Yep, I think that too.
Is there some vast conspiracy? Uh, no, I don't think that. What does MSM even mean? Would you put the Atlantic and CBS News in the same box as MSNBC and Mother Jones? Doesn't even make sense. They all compete for eyeballs and ad dollars.
Anyone who gets their news only from social media is deceiving themselves.

So if you call someone a dirty liberal pig of Facebook, that will result in a trip to FB jail.
Call someone a Trumpist faggot and guess what...nothing happens.
There's no free speech or expression at FB. Their legal protections should be removed because they are actually a publisher. If they censor and delete at will, they are a publisher.
|
|
you guys saying you look at all sources....you apparently fall in the 35 percent
and it matters...there were polls that said if they knew the information about hunter before they voted...1 in 6 that voted for biden, would have changed it
would it have mattered? probably not with the states that stopped the counting
|
|
You're not correct. I see both of those types of statements all the time.
By the way, the word platform doesn't appear in Section 230.
So, let's say that 230 is removed. Is it your position that FB can then be sued by someone for removing conservative or liberal content (depending on which side you're on)? That doesn't make sense.

In case any of you actually care about the truth about free speech and why Trump has been finally muzzled by Facebook, the right to free speech is not absolute.
These are the exceptions to free speech:
"Freedom of speech and expression, therefore, may not be recognized as being absolute, and common limitations or boundaries to freedom of speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, incitement, fighting words, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, food labeling, non-disclosure agreements, the right to privacy, dignity, the right to be forgotten, public security, and perjury."
Trump's posts inciting sedition, violence, and compromising public security, are the reasons why Facebook not only has a right to take down his pages and posts but has a duty to do so.
Don't get me wrong, Zuckerberg is a piece of shit who helped Trump spread lies and conspiracy theories throughout the past 4-5 years. Only after Biden won and the Dems gained controlled of the House and Senate is he finally doing the right thing. Facebook needs to be punished for what it allowed Trump to get away with.
Also, Steve Bannon had a network of seven pages spreading false claims and conspiracy theories of voter fraud that Facebook also took down. Why would he need to do that if Trump won legitimately?
Lastly, Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley (and obviously Giuliani and the other Trump attorneys) committed career suicide by propagating what they knew were lies of voter fraud. The cowards are now backtracking their statements, but that isn't going to help them. The fallout from what happened Wednesday is going to be severe.
By the way, I'm not making arguments here. These are facts, not the lies you've been fed.
|
|
I've been banned on both Facebook and Twitter for saying I hope Trump dies in a fire. And also once for calling a Trump cunt a cunt.
So cut the bullshit about it being one-sided.

Is Simon & Shuster the only fucking book publisher in the U.S.? Aren't there a bunch of conservative publishers? Why can't Hawley just self-publish his book on Amazon like that asshole Covid-19 denier who sold a zillion copies of his piece of trash. It seems to me that Hawley is just using the S&S decision to get publicity for his book. Really, how many folks were going to spend $35 to read Hawley's "The Tyranny of Big Tech", especially since there have recently been a slew of recent books on this topic. S&S is a private company and they can publish whoever and whatever they want. If Hawley has a contractual dispute about their not publishing his book fight it out in court. This is much different than the actions of the Trump WH that tried to suppress Bolton's book by claiming the publication of national secrets. If I am book publisher and half my staff is threatening to quit because they don't want to be associated with a semi-seditious politician, who even his Republican colleagues are slamming, I would be a fucking idiot to publish the book.

230 almost finished off this place.

Really a typo Kaiser and asking if it was BLM. THE COP IS FUCKING DEAD AT THE HANDS OF DONALD TRUMP. FUCK YUH OU. OH ANOTHER TYPO SORRY. FUCK YOU!

@Jazz51.
If it's any consolation, I don't want to unite with you or any of your ilk.
Fuck you and yours.
|

Mark Cuban had a great response to Hawley's complaint about S&S dropping his book.
Josh, let me explain Capitalism to you. Sometimes people decide not to do business with you. It's their decision. You know the whole "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" thing ? In your case it happens to be "No Principles, No Honesty, No Book" thing. Feel free to Self-Publish
|
|
You have the right to say whatever you want.
You don't have the right to use someone else's' platform to say it.
It really is that simple.
|
|
^ No it really isn't.
Once that platform starts to pick and choose what posts can stay up or they take down, at that point they become a 'publisher' and they forgo any protections that 230 offers them. That's what zuckerberg and the twit ahole as well as google, with you tube, are fighting. To show that they aren't publishers because then they open themselves up to law suits.
Atticus Finch
|
|
Yes, it really is.
Social media companies are under no duty to allow anyone to say a fucking thing. And when you sign up you're agreeing to certain terms of conduct.
And book publishers sure as fuck don't have to publish a book that they don't want to. They can refuse for any reason as long as it doesn't violate some contractual agreement.
|
|
Then change 230. Until then the platforms can do what is best for themselves. You understand Capitalism. There are other places for the stupid right/left to publish the nonsense.
Fring people please go to fringe platforms and fuck off.

On a tangent, Twitter just permanently banned President Trump.
Lifetime removal.

^Not sure I agree with that move.

sounds like someone is trying to be in the elite

On a tangent, Twitter just permanently banned President Trump.
If you didn't read Twitter's reason....total fucking bullshit.
Because Trump tweeted he was not going to the Inauguration. Twitter has determined that is a message to incite violence since Trump supporters would know it was safe to do something since Trump would not be there.....
If that isn't a reach, I sure don't know.
But I am really struggling with what Big Joe said about Unity and Healing.....somehow I don't think all of the current actions of pushing for impeachment, invoking the 25th Amendment and banning Trump from Twitter is going to do anything to move to Unity and Healing.....
|
|
"But I am really struggling with what Big Joe said about Unity and Healing.....somehow I don't think all of the current actions of pushing for impeachment, invoking the 25th Amendment and banning Trump from Twitter is going to do anything to move to Unity and Healing....."
I agree with that, but at the same time, I don't think that not doing these things is going to make everyone suddenly sing "Kumbaya" together either.
|
|
I am sure Healing and Unity was before the Insurgence.
Now it’s a matter of justice, or they will get aaay with it and be emboldened to try again with something worse.

"Now it’s a matter of justice, or they will get aaay with it and be emboldened to try again with something worse."
I just joined Parler just to read comments from these right-wing lunatics, and they are definitely emboldened by what happened. They think it was a good thing. I'm worried they will do worse next time. The rioters need to face justice.

i saw one interview of a guy that was part of the invasion....he was apologizing profusely...said caught up in the moment and it was stupid
did we ever ever ever hear one person in the summer caught inside or tearing down a statue where they apologized?
|
|
I find it unnecessary to be making comparisons about what happened the other day with what happened over the summer. It takes away from focusing on how awful what happened this week was.

The nation is clamping down on Trumpers
In addition to Twitter, Google has removed the Parler app from the Play store.
Twitch banned Trump yesterday, for whatever that's worth. YouTube will probably ban Trump as well.
Also, Reddit has banned the r/DonaldTrump subreddit
Expect more to follow. The whole point is to prevent Trump from inciting further violence.
|
|
I think they should be removing the tweets that incite violence instead of removing him completely.
