by the time they try to run it through, his term will be over. thats whole thing about impeachment, it is a mechanism to remove a federal official from office, but if he's already out, then there is no legal standing for impeachment. at that point its up to the AG to start an investigation and bring criminal charges

"Preliminary research seems to indicate that the Senate could in fact hold a trial after the President is out of office," said political analyst Dennis Goldford. "A penalty other than leaving office for impeachment and conviction would be that the person impeached and convicted could no longer hold federal office."
The issue is not settled and probably would go to court, perhaps the Supreme Court, to settle this.

Do you think they want that? No. They just can’t stop it. The 74 million voters that voted for him aren’t all Trumpees. He’s got 15-20 million Trumpees that the right needs if they want to have hope of winning any future national election.
