If someone you loved was killed in front of you, but someone created a copy of them that was perfect right down to the atomic level, would they be the same person and would you love them just as much?
Me personally I would never make a copy of a human being or loved one at that matter. Everything has an expiration date and on the unfortunate circumstance that they would die like that is horrible but everyone and everything has a time. I would definitely like to hear everyone's opinion on this subject. Please be respectful and stay on subject hope everyone's night is going great.
Well besides that, bodies can be cloned now, but there is only one spirit that is you. Think Coma, you have left your body, you may or may not come back to it.
You'll want to get familiar with the Ship of Theseus thought experiment.
You can really go down the rabbit hole with this one (see Wikipedia link with lots of reference and similar topics linked to it)
not sure what them "being killed in front of you" has to do with it
if the person were cloned they would have to starts as an embryo and develop into a functioning person which means they will have a completely different set of experiences & background as the loved one; so they would obviously not be the same person although physically identical
now let's say you can upload that person to a digital form with all of their life experiences etc to live in a virtual world....queue ray kurzweil
biology is technology, technology can be hacked...who says life is finite? that's for luddites
I think it's disrespectful to the memory of your beloved.
It's also an indicator that someone just isn't dealing with reality.
People die, pet's die, but many people simply can't do grief and can't deal with loss so they construct alternatives. The problems with living in a haze of unreality is that the rest of us have to deal with you and your nonsense.
