I think it just doesn't have end-to-end encryption

Thanks for sharing, I just googled what that means that makes sense. I have used zoom a numerous occasions. many of my former colleagues as well using to conference with potential marketing leads, clients, etc. I find this information yet disturbing. Curious if there will be a class action lawsuit??

Oh, and the encryption they use is not an industry standard, they wrote their own, which is considered weak.

They also send encryption/decryption keys to servers in China.

Well, according to the BBC that is.

Cheers.

For those of us who don’t set it up right and go to live events that anyone can join, it can be Zoombombed. Worse yet, there may be hacker vulnerabilities that are barely being discovered.

Zoom isn't *great* software so I wouldn't use it for the same reason I use Signal. They're addressing some of the very glaring security flaws.

..but it was also not meant to be a secure communication platform, so there's that to consider. At least, that's my understanding of it.

There are some things you can do to make your Zoom meetings more secure. EFF did a great article about this recently.

Zoom is fine for most events where you don’t need very secure communications. Events that are public or semi-private. Like doing research with your peers, or chats with your class, etc. I would think that covers a lot. It is easy to use and seems to have a good interface.

Zoom is not suitable for private communications, even private ones during a public conference. Private messages sent to individual people during a Zoom meeting show up in the end-of-meeting transcript along with all other public messages.

The zoom bombing has been occurring with people using the free portion and not setting up their meeting with meeting ID and password protection.

At least with Zoom Pro, the paid version, you can set a meeting with meeting ID, password and then waiting room where the meeting host individually allows people into the meeting. So you only let in someone you know.

It’s not malware but you may have guests that you are not expecting on your zoom.
