I guess it depends on how you define “athlete.”
The Babe was truly one of the greatest... if not the greatest, hitter Of all time... but I wouldn’t compare him to Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owens or a fully penised Kaitlyn Jenner.

I think it is more how you define or arrive at "greatness"
ya, hard to argue with Thorpe from an accomplishment standpoint, but what about other criteria:
breaking race barriers: Jackie Robinson
breaking gender barriers: Billie Jean King or Serena Williams??

I wont argue with Jim Thorpe but Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete I've seen in my lifetime and that includes Jim Brown.

Bruce Jenner's decathalon marks would not even qualify for the olympic trials. Todays athletes are measuably superior in every aspect of performance. If we are talking about for his time then its hard to argue against Thorpe. In 2020 you could look up the current decathalon world record holder. The problemtoday is that every athlete specializes by the time they leave high school.
