The Epoch Times is a true up and coming independent source that does a reasonably good job of being unbiased politically.
As an engineer working in the high tech sector I can say without a doubt that China is exceptionally aggressive at trying to steal US technology, hack into company servers, and bribe US workers to hand over trade secrets.
In recent years there has been a huge escalation by tech companies to protect intellectual IP, the IT infrastructure, and training employees to recognize and report malicious activity.
Could Chinas actions spread to what is implied here? Not saying yes but I sure as fuck wouldnt be surprised and I wouldnt write it off.

And of course I take responsibility. This is what I'm working on now: People are itching to get out of their houses and get the economy running again, lest there be a really severe recession. But once we start relaxing social distancing, what will happen? Is there are “right” way to relax social distancing? Does it involve testing and monitoring everyone all the time (something we still cannot do in this country)? Or can it be done by being careful about what you relax and what you don’t relax? When summer starts, should camps open? Should airlines start carrying travelers at high capacity again?
As clearly demonstrated in Hx blogs, people’s ability to believe what they want to believe is really strong, and without evidence to the contrary, the likelihood that the response to enthusiasm for how the current curve has flattened will be a lot of caution thrown to the wind, leading in turn to a second or third wave of infection.

The Stanford study was just released and the NEJM study in NYC is ongoing. I don't recall any prediction by IC/F of the measured magnitude in the Stanford study (off by a factor of 50 to 85 X, that's fucking YUGE).
Frankly, I'd be more inclined to believe your 20% infection rate of genpop than 3 - 4%. The numbers would make more sense. 70,000,000 people infected, 70,000 to 140,000 dead at a rate of .1 -.2%
Somewhat higher than a normal flu season. Very sad to be sure, but not an excuse to destroy so many lives.
Make no mistake, shut down policy is destroying tens of millions of lives AND probably killing tens or hundreds of thousands.

I strongly suggest you read the NYT magazine article on the experiences of medical personnel in NYC.
It's heart wrenching but the takeaway is important.
NYC is a special case shit show in this country. Combine the following, a poor mostly immigrant population living 4, 5, 6 to a room packed like sardines in apartments. Then add a public hospital system that has been forever starved for funds by the state ( Cuomo tried to take away $400 million in Medicaid funding)and throw in no stockpiled equipment. Its no wonder theyre ground zero in the US.....again.
CA is not NYC, many states did not need the same lockdown level of NYC.

You may be right. The mortality rate may be as low as 0.2%. It may not be. It may be much higher. That is the problem. We don't know, and we need to take a worst case scenario into account until we do know.

I don't think it's killing people yet. Depression and anxiety are setting in, but if things continue for a while, drug overdoses and suicides aplenty would happen, and that's a problem. I agree it's a big problem, but so is the coronavirus.
But the truth is, it may be a false choice to say we can't open up the economy and not pay attention to COVID-19. We may be able to do both!!!! We can ramp up testing big time! We may be able to be careful about what we relax and don't relax when we open up things and still be able to keep COVID-19 at bay! And that's how modeling can help explore this problem!

I have experience with both medical and non-medical companies.
Fortunately, the medical related ones that know the protocols are already gearing back up NOW with safety protocols in place,.
Unfortunately, the non-meds are unfamiliar with those protocols and will have a steep learning curve of how to safely move people in/out of a facility, work together, use shared bathrooms, etc.
The mom/pop retail biz, they're pretty much fucked unless they're deemed essential.
CV-19 is serious business but so is abrogating every constitutional right we had in order to protect us from ourselves.
They've overstepped and id like to see them back the fuck off.........imho

@GoBallsDeep: You're making the assumption, it seems to me, that states like California might have been ok with a smaller-scale response, but we don't know that either. The large-scale response in California and in other places may have meant that we didn't see the fulmination of results that looked more like the modeling in this places. It may be that modeling has become a victim of its own success. My concern is if we cut back too fast, too hard, and on too many aspects of social distancing now, before rampant testing is in place, we may unfortunately see some of these modeling results come to fruition here in California.
