$5 would get you a CARTON of cigarettes.
a BigMac meal, a Whopper meal was $1.99

that was 1975-1980.
inflation was unheard of.
rent for 1/2 of a duplex, 2 bdrm, was $135/mo.
my DAD was a cook, and made $48/day.

These were the smaller vinyl records that would have a top 10 hit on one side and another song on the B side.
Mostly Pop music.

$5 in 1979 got me into the Other Masque (punk rock club on SW corner Santa Monica and Vine) on a Friday night, 5 bands for 5 dollars. The Flyboys, the GoGos, Cramps, Dead Boys and the Germs. Another $5 got a Super Star with Cheese and a large drink from Carl's Jr, a donut and orange juice after the show, then a ride home on the RTD 31 bus from Hollywood to Pasadena around 5 AM the next morning...

I remember seeing Superman and having to pay $4 for a movie for the first time in my life. I was so pissed!

I saw Superman in 1978 for less than 3 dollars at a vintage theater with a huge screen.
The sound system was great too.
When the curtains opened and the projector started flickering I was way, way excited.
Those were the days...
