Should government take a pay cut
Apr 23 2020 08:17PM more by heliman
Tags: Orange County, Random (All tags)

We know the president gives away his paycheck.

Shouldn't congress, senate, and other higher end jobs take a pay cut?

They're laying off city workers and cutting back their hours to make up the tax loss for closing up the country.

Besides, we need those guys to keep sending us more helicopter money.

If we double their pay, would they drop more money from the sky?

Not sure why, but he did donate 100,000 of his pay to fight covid-19. Seems like a good cause.

PAY CUTS? Hell NO!

I hear enough from those whiney DC bitches.

BTW....that is why you go into government. To suckle in safety on the taxpayer’s tit.

I think we should honor our word and pay them no matter how badly they do their jobs. Not only that.... RAISES for ALL elected officials!

It will be a cold day you know where when those jokers vote to reduce any of their power or benefits. Congress is our greatest example of “power corrupts”.

Who will ever run on a promise of Congress having to live by the same benefits as the public?

No more automatic lifetime pension for just a couple of years of service!

No more having their own Health Plan - whatever the public plan is - that's their plan too!

How about term limitations?

I'm not remembering any candidate who has these elements in their campaign platform!

Yes, the politicians and news media are all working, collecting their pay, access to full benefits, no economic impact upon them whatsoever. And they also now feel important and in power.

They should all be forced to give back every dollar they received since the lock down and can't collect another penny until opening back up.....

They need skin in the game and currently have none.

Talltan...

Yes, they are quick to tell you that something is great...but when you did deeper....they don't have it themselves.

Obama pushed Obamacare...but he wasn't covered by it.....hell no....not good enough for Congress and the President.....

If the news was losing money, if the government officials were not getting a dime...I wonder if Newsom would be still talking about longer shutdown....

It was just the other day, Nancy Pelosi was on some late night talk show where she was sitting in front of $40k worth of kitchen equipment showing off her $13 a pint ice creams.

Yes, we have had our modern day "let them eat cake" moment.

Start it at 5:09 if you want to see it.

I'm with Kaisersoce They should get a raise and more benefits.
Everyone else should show homage and take up a collection to show their appreciation
for what a great job they are doing.
People just don't have appreciation for their elected officials. It's just shameful.

They need low base pay, and performance bonus' tied to a balanced budget.
Maybe start off at US$35K/year (because they get medical free for life) baded on 40 hrs./week of actual work, and incremental (curved) bonus' as budget equilibrium is reached.
Also cut back per Diem, make ALL contributions reportable and public, and preclude equity trades when in office.

I wish they could make Congress' salary tied to 2 things:

1. Government Shutdowns
2. Unemployment reaches a certain level (maybe 10%)

Anytime any of these 2 things happens, they loose their pay and health benefits until things gets resolved.

They should also be forced to use Medicare and not have heir own health insurance benefits, separate from what the government provides to everyone else.

We would see them fix a lot of issues most Americans face if they were in the same boat as most of us are in.

Make Congress and The President show their Income Tax returns public information so we can see if they are making money from places hey should not be making money from.

Just my opinion.

^ Agreed... We shouldn't have to ask they should offer as a gesture being servants of the people. The are all power and money hungry and don't give a crap about their constituents after they are elected.

Every elected official should take no pay until they are willing to allow citizens to go back to work. It is easy to say that shelter in place needs to continue when you are still being paid and have no fears about being able to pay your bills or becoming homeless. Politicians are the lowest form of human.

Since con-gress, the opposite of pro-gress, gets to vote on when they get a raise, the chances of them taking a pay cut or even deferring their pay is nothing but wishful thinking.

But everyone bitching about politicians - this is your fault! 90% of congress is reelected every time they come up for reelection. If you don't like them vote for someone else! Hell write in someone or vote 'none of the above'! Quit voting for the F-ING incumbents!!!
