Projections are just that. The idea being expect the worst, hope to be totally wrong. Each one of those numbers is a person who had a life, family, friends, hopes, dreams. My best friend lost his brother to Covid-19 last week. So. Be pissed off but whatever. My friend's brother left behind two daughters (6 and 12) and his wife of 15 years. The virus could be .000001% but that doesn't bring him back
Life goes on and I haven't been at my home much, on a brighter note, caught a 24" halibut by chance (I suck at fishing). Tomorrow I'll be in the mountains. Tent. Campfire and a laptop with a crapload of work to do.

Bwana, the mortality rate is a percentage not a gross number. If we were doing random sampling it would indicate the true number of people that die from a disease. We can impact the number of cases, but without a medical treatment, there is nothing we can do to impact the mortality rate. The reason we were seeing exaggerated numbers for CoVid is that they were only testing people that were really sick in the beginning. Obviously that group is going to have a higher number of deaths. Now that the testing is more widespread and with the development of the anti-body tests we will probably find out this virus was much more widespread, and the mortality rate will be a lot smaller. And yes, regardless of how small a percentage, if your family member or friend is dead, it’s still devastating, but there are things that kill people before their time all around us. Everyone one of us has an expiration date, there’s no getting out of life alive.

sherkhan....our point is that if we flagged all of the death categories and reported on them 24/7, this would be one more category of death to deal with.
I won't bore you with the numbers but we kill lots of people annually. It ins't fun, it obviously sucks for those who die. It is a very contagious disease, and can cause death. But the mortality rates is going down as more people are tested and we find they had it and got over it. And those who have died, most had other underlying health conditions. Not too many healthy, young, vigorous adults dying (and I know you will find some random numbers out there, so don't knock yourself out finding them...there are anecdotal evidence for all kinds of things, even the effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine.)
It is real, it sucks, we should be pissed as hell at China and the asshole Communist government, but shutting our country down for 6 months isn't the answer either.

Doctors insert bronchoscopes into the lungs...small camera and light source to check the inside of the lung and see damaged tissue. Who the fuck knows....maybe that could be a UV light to kill viral molecules inside the lung.....I don't know, I am not a doctor or biological engineer. But if the light works outside the body, why not inside?

I am not here to say there is a right answer for shutting down. There are signs of what worked in China (harsh draconian measures) and what has worked elsewhere. And this is something unprecedented. Hindsight is not 20/20 as we are nowhere near being through this. It took Wuhan 3 months. We will see what happens with other nations and our own communities that open up early.
While I am perfectly willing to let those who underestimate the disease go out and learn the hard way, I can’t justify that emotion because I know the idiots will spread it to others, or take up valuable medical resources from people who did practice safety and still got it.
Shit, my best friend from high school caught it when he picked up his kid from the social distant protest earlier last week. I am told that they haven’t needed to get hospitalized but it’s put their bodies through the ringer. There is no historical precedent for this.

China got the benefit of shutting down travel in and out of Wuhan domestically, but the fucking assholes allowed people to travel outside China in and out of Wuhan.....that is what the entire world should be crushing the Chinese economy with a worldwide boycott of many of their products once we get through this.

Did the Chinese government step up once the actual scope of the crisis was made clear. Harsh but yes. People are active and business is going on in Wuhan, with people still being careful. Do we need Chinese government here? No, don’t be silly.... oh wait, you can’t help yourself.
But when the Chinese experts were flown to hotspots around the world to offer their hard earned wisdom, they looked at what countries with lax policies and flat out told them:
“What the fuck are you doing? You’re people are going to die.”
There is a reason why the US leads the world in infections and death. Slow response time, poor resources available (thanks a Trump!) and idiots who do not take this seriously, spinning bullshit to prove their ideology Trumps (pun intended) actual fact.

According to Los Angeles Public Health Covid 19 is the leading cause of death in LA county.
Are the percentages low from dying from it yes but nobody knows what it will do to an individual who gets it. One person may get no real symptoms and another may end up on a ventilator. Its funny how this 50 plus year old man wants to continue to act like the virus is over hyped and he himself maybe part of a vulnerable population that can die from it.
He has posted "weed out the weak or in other words, thin the herd. I'm all for that!" creating negative karma for himself. If all of a sudden we see these profiles stop posting we will know what happened.

For the numbers, anyone talking about mortality rates now is trying to sell you something. There just isn't enough solid data and it is changing so fast that there is no way to get an accurate number.
And not even clear mortality rate means much with a virus like this and how contagious it is due to symptomless carriers--it seems to find those it can kill and the number of people infected may have little to do with that.
What is very clear is isolation and distancing is working. California is somewhat better thanks to being one of the first to react.
And everyone seems to support that now.
Sure there are a few "rallies" but they are all fat, white, stupid, and seem to be Trump supporters.

That's actually not true. In their models, IHME had to revise downward their original projection in the number of cases and deaths due to the greater effects than expected of social distancing.
