Locked. No further comments permitted.Phase 3 is still months away.
Apr 28 2020 03:27PM more by NigelCollins68
Tags: Orange County, Current Events (All tags)

In a press conference this afternoon Governor Newsom indicated that the hard lockdown would end in a few weeks, probably by May 15, 2020. The six counties of the San Francisco Bay Area, however, have already announced that the hard lockdown would be extended until the end of May. The rest of California may not end up following the Bay Area.

This hard lockdown has been phase 1. In a few weeks we will have phase 2, which will allow Non-Essential Businesses (as defined by the Stay-At-Home Order) to reopen as long as social distancing can be maintained. Retail stores will open again so long as customers continue to wear their masks and stay at least six feet away from each other. (If you swing a dead cat, that's six feet.)

Unfortunately the governor indicated that phase 3 (the good stuff that we all want) won't come for another few months. Phase 3 includes personal services such as fitness gymnasiums, hair salons, and massage parlors.

Got that?

Not sure why people do not understand...the shelter in place was to bend the curve and make sure we were prepared medically to handle the influx of cases.

We now are fuloughing nurses and doctors who have nothing to do.....

I've disagreed with Jazz51 in other blogs, but his comment above is correct.

The whole point of flattening the curve was to mitigate the impact on the healthcare system. It was an emergency measure to stop the hemorrhaging when the virus was already widespread.

The impact to the economy was severe, but it conceivably could have been worse if the virus was allowed to go unchecked.

What would happen if 30+ percent of the workforce were suddenly unable to work for weeks at a time? What would happen if huge numbers of doctors and nurses started getting sick?

If hospital capacity was significantly exceeded, then the mortality rate would likely have shot much higher because of lack of care.

I'd argue that panic would have set in because the situation would be widely perceived as totally out of control. In that case, the damage to the economy could have been even more severe.

Baby Moonbeam can suck wet eggs. His "
people" also said in that news conference that California will not get back to normal until we either have (1) herd immunity; or (2) a vaccine that has innoculated enough people to create that herd immunity.

So, a vaccine is 18 months away. By the time 80% of the population gets the vaccine (this is liberal anti-vaxer California after all), it will be 24-26 months. The alternative is 80% of us need to get the Cove.

Are you willing to go two years without eating in a restaurant? going to a movie? A baseball game or sporting event? What about concerts?

This is a load of crap, and there are also indications that a vaccine won't even work. An overactive power-hungry government is taking away our freedoms and breaking our financial backs. Let's just get on with life. Whatever happens, happens.

Once an over zealous government takes away freedoms, there usually has to be bloodshed to get them back (if you can).

This is a no-win situation we are in. We need to face the facts on that, and accept the consequences. Thanks China.

There had never been a vaccine for a Covid virus. The closest we got to one was SARS and it disappeared before we got there. I'm not saying this will be the one but anyone saying 18 months is dreaming. It will either 1) disappear or 2 be longer than 18 months if ever.

But that's fine whatevs life should go on and we need to lessen up these rules a bit. Not full stadium loose but looser than what we have now.

At least open up restaurants with only 25% capacity with having a 2hr limit and party of 2 max. Create a website to book reservations only. Start off with Breakfast and Lunch then close up with takeout and delivery for Dinner. After 2 weeks, take a look at cost of operation/revenue and see if it works.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that a politician ( Dem party at large.. ) that want open borders, sanctuary protection for illegal criminals, and healthcare for non-citizens is telling the legal taxpaying public to wait several months for phase 3?

Anyone else see hipocracy in this when in fact he's delaying tax income while CA is not anywhere close to NY in COVID death/infection status.

Governor now saying Theme parks can't open until a vaccine or treatment is readily available. We'll see if Disney will abide but with the tax revenue and power they wield I'm sure the OC will let them do whatever and open whenever they want.
Production on movies that tends to hit the liberal electorate will also be on hold. Again we'll see, or will they get a reprieve?
Still waiting on the government workers to take furloughs and pay cuts too, glad I didn't hold my breath as it seems the private sector is the only one that must shoulder the load.

@jr I find it hilarious that they are letting people out of jail and prison at a time when even qualified people are finding it hard to earn a living.

They are essentially putting people on the street that will have a very hard time trying to find a place to live if not just finding a job of any kind and saying that they are doing it for humanitarian reasons. These people even with the best of intentions will find it very hard not to return to their old ways with the stress that this pandemic and lockdown is putting on all of us.

And yet these greedy fucks still want their pound of flesh.

Cant we get a furlough on mortgages? You greedy fucks will get your money, just add it to the end of the loan, so instead of 19 years and 3 months, now its 19 years and 6 months. Would that be so hard?

Can the credit card companies give us a break on interest rates for a while?

Im so tired of hearing "we are all in this together" from billionaire corps and their stooges, yet their actions say a completely different thing.

None of this will happen because fuck the working family.

Today the LA Pubic heath is starting to put up
Non-residential Congregate Settings
(including workplaces, food and retail stores and educational settings)

These are stores where their employees have tested positive for covid. I feel really sorry for these people because they are essential workers and many of them just started wearing masks within the last few weeks and their stores have just put up plastic partitions to protect them.
Theres a Ralph supermarket on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood that has 16 employees that have tested positive.

Although it’s growth rate of cases is one of the lowest in CA, Orange County has the fourth highest number of hospitalizations. This rate has been slowly yet steadily increasing over the past few weeks. Since California’s mitigation strategies largely exist to keep hospitals from reaching critical capacity, consider what I just told you as we open up places like beaches where, without masks and social distancing, one person could easily transmit this very contagious virus to multiple people.

Hopefully, hospitalizations and total cases start going down ASAP and fast so we can start opening things up by May 15.

Lol, Night-Fraud, if this is your area of expertise....You need to get in the game!
Not gonna post all the same links again but the epidemiology is fast moving away from you.
You started with death rate of 3.5%, then 2%, then down to 1%, then range of .2 - 1%.
Meanwhile the studies out of Wuhan, Germany, NYC are showing the virus requires prolonged exposure at close proximity. Outdoor infection is not non-existent but very very low.

I get that you want to err on the safe side but its turning into a side dish of hot steaming shit.
Do some homework, punch up the model, engage the brain!

Besides the damage to the CA economy for each day the shutdown continues, I keep wondering how do state and local governments plan to recoup the revenues they are also losing?
I expect CA to ask for a bailout, as well many other states they have an extended shutdown.
An unprecedented amount of money is being spend by the Federal government to mitigate
the damage to the economy and it seems even more is needed.
This has to be bad news for everyone.
I have always said that Dems must love taxes in CA because that is what they will continue
to get in this state. Once we get through this pandemic, you will definitely see more taxes.
However, the people are already getting tired of the amount of taxes they are currently paying,
so it will be interesting to see what their response, will be, to future tax increases.

GoBallsDeep: You have a good point about being outdoors making it harder to transmit the virus. That’s because there is some anecdotal evidence that it can be transmitted airborne in smaller rooms via an air vent. You don’t have that problem on the beach. If people would follow staying six feet away from other people from a different household OR wear a mask, it shouldn’t be a significant problem. Problem is I saw video of people crammed in next to each other in Huntington Beach last weekend, which isn’t good.

The research group I belong to is noticing some real discrepancies between models and data now, now that we’re getting some more data in. Still too early to tell if this will work itself out or not, but if it doesn’t, it’s a good research opportunity to figure out how and why the models got it wrong.

They need to instruct labor laws so if a hair salon opens and the employee does or doesnt want to work it wont be consider quitting or firing.

I really think maintaining your hair, self care and grooming is essential.

It should be up to the worker and customer if they want a hair cut.

And the risk. EVERY1 wears a mask

And if anything people should be suggesting how to wear your hair longer for a male to go longer between appointments as it may benefit you by less esposure.

I know for men its really about cleaning up the neck line.
I think its nothing a bic razon cant clean up?

Anyways. Im really torn on the hair cut thing.

So last night i spent 5.5 hours highlighting and cutting my hair

I usually spend 275 on a hair cut
And 500 on color

I know rip off. But my old stylist was fn up my hair so i felt i needed to pay more to get the results.

Anyways

I did it my self and i never been more happy in my life
With it.

And now gonna save myself 50-80k in my life cause i think ill manage it from here.

Salon industry can be highway robbery.

Btw

We need to reopen small and medium businesses that can not afford to stay closed for 3-6-12months.

We need to open so the businesses can make money and provide jobs.

If they close.. it is taking jobs out of the market.
And our unemployment rate will increase.

Now we have 20 million displaced workers

Some will be called to come back to work, some wont.

It kinda opens oppurtunities for people like me to apply for jobs that were taken before. And I am doing so.
Which is kind of interesting. Im seeing allot of hotel and restaurant rehiring.. what happen to their previous employees 2 months ago?

Kinda weird... kinda goof.

We need to be prepared for thd unemployment rate to permanently increase during covid because all businesses will not be operating on all 4 at full capacity becsuse business will be slower. Many people/consumers will not be going to public marketplace as often or frequently as we are all still not in the mood to get sick am i right?

Another thing is ill b real pissed if i truly already had this in feb when i got sick.. with out details.. it was everything covid is. Dont worry i was gone for 3 plus weeks and asked a few ppl i saw near then if theu got sick answer was no. So i didnt think i had it i just thought it was maybe the flu and they had flu shots
Anyways when i feel lile getting a antibody test and i find out i had it.

Im going to launch a career in politics

And screw the W.h.O who has bad science anyways. We pay them to consilt us and the world.
They told us it can not be transmitted human to human
And they predicted 14% of the world will get covid. WRONG. So no they dont deserve money. Maybe sum1 can donate to them a calculator. Seem like they dont have a good1

now Newsom is going to pull a Garcetti and lecture all of his California "children" and close ALL the beaches. Too bad, "absolute power corrupts absolutely." If he had said in the beginning we're going to close everything and everyone will stay at home for several months, no one would've gone along with it. instead we get increments of 2 to 6weeks. may 15 isn't far off, can't wait to hear how long he's going to extend it his time and his excuse. why is he getting paid if no one else is? also, his and Garcetti's hair still looks perfectly groomed. even after at least 6 weeks! not possible! you must practice what you preach or lead by example if you want people to follow you through extrems long term.

just my .02

we now return you to your normal programming

it's good thing America can see what these guys do in these times, the power grabs, sending money to china...might not get a good view of it in normal times

the Michigan governor was one step from a VP nod before she blew up with power and stupid decisions with spending. I think she might have just cancelled a contract she handed out without proper bidding...they all want to self-deal in someway

we keep seeing crap dealing from these guys...not sure enough people care to make changes

maybe hoping to get enough new voters in the country....these type of actions won't ever have repercussions in the elections
