He could easily have come out with a statement that he noticed lack of social distancing at some beaches and that if improvements are not made and local authorities do not help assure proper spacing, the beaches will be closed.

But in a fit of power and disappointment, the asshole just shuts it down....total power grab by a power hungry person...he is auditioning for President...but his audition is looking pretty weak at this point...he will be pissing way more people off as he continues to act as a tyrant.

“I just think we could tighten that up a little bit and so we’re going to have a temporary pause on the beaches down there — state, local beaches,” Newsom said during his daily COVID-19 briefing in Sacramento. “We want to work very closely with local elected officials, and we’re committed to doing that if we can get some framework and guidelines to get this right. We can reopen very, very quickly but ... we’ve got to make sure we get this right.”

Guys, just wait until the number of cases and hospitalizations go way down, and they will be open again.

nightrider....the numbers are already pretty decent for Ventura County, Orange County, and some of the Far Northern Counties.

He could have said, let's give this one more week and if beaches are crowded and people are not practicing social distancing, we will close them.

His knee jerk reaction without giving anyone the benefit of the doubt shows he is on a power trip....he loves his daily briefings and telling people what to do.

Look at the numbers for many of the beach counties across the state.

Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma, Marin, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterrey.....

Numbers are so small.....why should they have their beaches closed???? Why should they even have their counties closed to begin with? Low density, minimal population......The Bay Area can live with their high density like New York....keep them shut down, but don't penalize everyone else.

Even Orange County numbers are relatively small as well.

Power trip, nothing more, nothing less.

But guys... what I really want to know is do all illegal criminals under sanctuary state protection still have all of thier rights if picked up on the beach?

I mean its OK if police send you or I to jail for being at the beach but we really need to be assured known illegal criminals will be let go.

I'm serious !... we need to know this!

OC's hospitalizations have been slowly creeping up the last few weeks. OC has the fourth largest number of hospitalizations in California. We need to make sure the number doesn't become critical. To err on the safe side, we should open things up slowly once cases and hospitalizations get low again.

Big brother Baby Moonbeam is blinded by power.

Just the same way as the Clintons decided to punish "conservative" OC by closing down our military bases in 1992, -- they closed El Toro MCAS, Tustin MCAS, made Los Alamitos a shell of it's former self, and tried to shut down the Seal Beach Weapons station too (Navy told them it would destroy our national security in the pacific, so it stayed open), Gov. Baby Moonbeam orders OC beaches closed. Why? We are still perceived as the enemy, as conservatives, and mut be punished whenever possible. He would never pull this crap on San Francisco, Santa Cruz, or L.A./Hollywood/Santa Monica. Never!

Ignore the orders. I'm going on Saturday.

Huntington Beach is going to sue. Newport Beach may follow.

Maybe it's a measurement of increased testing, but new cases shot up to 145 today. Hospitalizations hit a new high yesterday (the last day we have data). Not sure why. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it is 4-5 days after last weekend's beach bonanza.

I've changed my mind. I actually disagree with closing the beach. Instead, they should regulate how many people can be on the beach at one time. Keep the density low. Enforce social distancing measures too.

I think it's healthy for people to want to get out to go to the beach. It just needs to be regulated for safety.

Actually, if they opened up ALL of the beaches and just regulated how many people can be on the beach at one time, there may not be a problem. It causes more of a problem if you keep many closed and only open up a few. That will lead to crowds at the few open beaches.

Have you seen the report that the WHO now says Sweden is a model to follow
for the covid19. A Swedish doctor stated that Sweden is moving toward herd immunity.
I always thought this shutdown was a lot of BS. Current data shows that you have over
a 99% chance of surviving.
I'm planning to go to OC to check out the beaches on Sun.
OC sheriff said publicly, he was not planning to enforce Newsom's order,
so I expect to see 1000s of people on OC beaches this weekend.

^ oh just stop Night-Fraud, seriously

Newport city council will make a decision by tomorrow whether they will enforce the beach closings. Please call or email them at citycouncil@newportbeachca.gov and tell them you oppose the rule from the petty tyrant, Nuisance.

Newport announced they will comply but read the fine print in the link, I don't think they will. Speaking to the PD today, they said officer on scene will make the call. I think they're smart to say "yeah, whatever you say Hair", then quietly ignore this fool.

I've spoken with several doctors in OC with expertise in this area of medecine. Their research says that the odds of attaining a viral load required for infection in an outdoor setting are less than being struck by lightning, lol. Their words, not mine.

It's not about health, Nuisance is playing pure politics as he preps himself for his ultimate presidential run while ignoring basic constitutional rights, POS that he is.

If it was about health, why not do something about the 1.7 million people each year in the US that get sepsis, 250,000 die of sepsis every year, 1 out of 3 in the hospital. Fuck, many of them get it IN the hospital.

Fuck Nuisance right in the culo, pinche maricon

Yes the number of confirmed cases went up Wednesday and Thursday compared to Monday and Tuesday, and it may/may not have direct relation to the number of people out at the beach. If it’s been tested that UV light and humidity help kill the virus, people are going to go to a place where both exist - the beach.

And where do they go before they drive to the beach? The grocery stores. People need to remember to wear gloves at those stores or wash your hands immediately and don’t touch your face or mouth unless you do so.

Oh and fuck Newsom.

There is a reason we are number 1# in the world. We have over 1 million coronavirus infections and 60,000 deaths. I get it. America is the land of freedom and liberty. Screw the establishment! Don't listen to the nurses and doctors pleading with us to stay at home. Go out and infect everyone! The more people that die. The sooner this will be over! I'm sorry , I cannot be that person who willingly infects others. Good luck.

So many of the photos were taken with telephoto lenses from the pier. You cannot possibly tell depth and distance. Many of the overhead, aerial shots clearly showed groups were staying 6 feet or more apart. Obviously those who were there together as a family unit were not.

There are now news reports that 90,000 people were at the beach.....that is total bullshit....local estimates were less than 40,000.

Of course, LA County beaches were closed...so guess what....LA residents came to Orange County to go to the beach...DUH!!!!!!!!

Total misinformation and overreaction by Newsom.....did he talk to the mayors of HB and NB...hell no, just dictatorially decided.

You right wingers are such fucking morons. The numbers are low in California because we were out front in distancing and have been aggressive. And it’s no surprise that in OC - ground zero for California wingnuts, Birthers and other assorted racists - is now starting to climb.

Now personally, it’s a great bonus for me if all you right wing libertarian assholes go out and get infected. Thin the herd, I say. Turn OC blue from purple. That’s fine by me. I support your right to kill yourself and your loved ones. But to think this is a “power grab” as opposed to an understanding of, well you know, science and facts ... y’all need to disconnect your Fox News brain feed and get back to grade school.

Each day we hear of the number of new cases and deaths that have occurred.
If the govt can do that they surely can tell us how much damage to the economy is being done
each day the shutdown continues. But so far the media provides very little
info. Fox seems to be the only network that addresses this issue, CNN and MSNBC
continues to point out cases and deaths and questions the necessity of businesses
opening too soon.

The numbers in California have very little to do with social distancing.

California was exposed to COVID-19 during fall 2019. I work in healthcare and we had a high number of what we believed were aggressive flu cases. We began to acquire herd immunity through early March.

The China travel ban was implemented on Jan 31. The Lunar New Year celebration ended around that time. Travel increased into Europe and many visitors came into the East Coast for Super Bowl and other events. The density of New York along with their vast utilization of mass transit help spread it around.

Just go outside and see thousands of people in the places dumb politicians say it is OK to go like the grocery store, liquor store, post office, pharmacy, dispensary. But everyone is complaining about beaches.

It's time to grow up and stop allowing GOVT dictate to you.

There is a reason why many want things like Medicare for All or Climate Change, these are the easiest ways for people to give up there freedoms.

2100 California deaths
40 Million CA population
Which equates to a wait for it....

.0052 chance of dying from Corona

Most of the death rate is for 80yo and up and others with serious pre existing conditions

Oh they also can catagorize a death as Corona with no test

So we are being lied to and manipulated

Everyone but on the lookout for the cries for State bailouts and multiple Bond propositions over the next few election cycles.

California has tremendous unfunded liabilities like high state salaries, and pensions.

The State has sacrificed a boatload of sales tax, gas tax, and income tax revenue. Keep in mind unemployment is not State taxable. California will have a MASSIVE budget shortfall.

Make the pension value move with states pension funds. Fuck the bailout. If the liberal leaders cant make ends meet then they can go tell the pension recipients how the value dropped... just like everyone else with a normal 401k

Fuck this guaranteed dollar amount at retirement for govt workers.

Govt needs to stop investing in bullshit programs that are non sustainable...

The unfunded pension liabilities in California for both State and Local governments make this state technically bankrupt.

The Dems kiss up to the government and teachers unions and keep kicking the can down the road....

This state continues to lose business and middle class taxpayers so it goes further upside down.

Yes, states like New York, California, New Jersey, etc. should NOT be bailed out.
