It's been one week since Georgia eased its coronavirus restrictions and opened businesses. Gyms, churches, hair and nail salons, and tattoo parlors were allowed to reopen a week ago.
Early signs? Cases have continued to show a downward trend.
If this continues, this is good news to regions across the country that don't share New York's social network structure (e.g. urban living and subways) that you can open things up before cases get very low again and still see a downward trend.
Very interesting and worth following.

I am giving Gavin the finger! He's taking away our civil liberties for his political agenda and this is one big social experiment.

Sorry guys, I missed that you already created a part 2, maybe a mod will vaporize it, please!
Meanwhile I'll post here:
This blog had a nice feel to it, kind of a '60's protest vibe
How many have seen the pics of the face off in HB today?
Mounted police vs. peaceful protesters
National Guard next?
Tanks & machine guns?
Great photo-op for gruesome's presidential run
Look at me get upset and out-diktater Trump!
Fuck Nuisance

Georgia 1000 new cases Thursday. What will the trend be? We will have to wait and see.
|

Who cares about those Russian bootlickers?
Their only contribution to date was Joe Stalin!

"Georgia 1000 new cases Thursday. What will the trend be? We will have to wait and see."
That's too bad. I think a lot of states are looking towards this experiment in Georgia to see if we can all open up early safely.

Georgia -- "new case count" is a bad metric as everyone is ramping up testing now and asymptomatic positives are not the same as those with clinical conditions and positive.
Data ranges, but estimates say that the asymptomatic population is anywhere from 2X (in health care facilities) to 20-50X (in the wild). So when you start testing everyone, as LA is, you will see numbers go up for sure.
Point is: it will CONFOUND our ability to make the claim that you make, and causality.
Additionally, the "lag" from exposure to infection needs to be factored in as well. Usually said to be 5-12 days, if I remember right.
The number of hospital beds occupied by COVID cases is a MUCH BETTER metric.
|
|
Oh yeah, and FUCK Newsome.
|
|
Well, the number of "confirmed" cases in Georgia -- confirmed via public or private laboratory testing -- has been very low and was low on Thursday (7), so the jump in cases by 1000 has nothing to do with increased testing.
|
|
The only metric that is meaningful is
1232 deaths in Georgia from Corona
4M population
Means that in GA you have a .03% chance of dying
About the same as driving to work
|
|
Actually, I looked at the Georgia data more carefully on the official Gerogia Department of Public Health website, and what the papers said about an increase by 1000 cases this past Friday is simply not there. These are the totals and differences in confirmed cases since last Sunday (two days after the opening up of services) in Georgia:
Sun-26391
Mon-27126 Difference: 735
Tue-27678 Difference: 552
*Wed-27979 Difference: 301
Thurs-28071 Difference: 92
Fri-28103 Difference: 32
Sat-28110 Difference: 7 (yeah, this difference is for Sat, not Thursday)
In fact, the data have leveled off since Wednesday, which is 5 days after things were opened up. This is where you would start seeing an increase in cases if it were due to that.
So the news is good! Let's hope it stays this way and others take notice.

WGAF about Georgia
check out OC beaches, people walking, jogging and surfing in NB and HB and Dana Point
Fuck Nuisance!
|
|
Nuisance is running for President, so trying to look presidential but epic fail, lol
tons of surfers out in OC, people out and about at beaches
OC cities are just choosing to not enforce
Guess the best you can say for Nuisance is maybe he scared the IE people from hitting the beach
Next week will be hot though, so I expect to see those poor diseased souls out and about too
Fuck you Hair!
Choke on a dick

You may think Georgia is insignificant, but they at least are getting new cases to come down.
We are not. I just did a 7-day moving average of new cases in Orange County, and there is a clear trend going UP the past week (see attached graph). Compare with Georgia (other attached graph).
Maybe it's due to increased testing, I don't know, but I should mention that Georgia is increasing the number of tests they do as well.
If we want to open up like Georgia has, we should at least be seeing a downward trend in new cases. Governor Newsom is right to be cautious, like it or not.
|
|
Actually, I just realized that OC also records the number of tests they do and private labs do every day. So, to see the impact testing has on the number of new cases, I took the number of new cases done over the past month or so and divided by the number of tests. Then I did a 7-day moving average. If you look at this graph, the number of cases per test actually has been DECREASING proportionately since the middle of April. The point is we really can't conclude anything about an increase in new cases over the past week, since THIS curve hasn't been flat for the second half of April.
Oh well, I was wrong previously.
|
|
Cases can be ok
As long as they are mild and dont result in ICU intervention or death
Meaning most vulnerable need to stay restricted as advised.
|
|
Why are 2500 being tested in oc on 1 day i saw
And only 160 or so positive?
So they have symptoms? And if its not covid is it the flu?
|
|
It's at least good to see that infection rate normalized to total test count is decreasing. I was going ask about that after your previous post because I'm assuming the rate of testing is on an increase.
|
|
Hospitalizations have been trending upward slowly, but “Increases in hospitalizations recently have been driven by residents of skilled nursing facilities,” said Dr. Matt Zahn, the medical director of the county Health Care Agency’s Communicable Disease Control Division.
“We’ve started to see clusters of cases in these facilities in the last two weeks.”
So the trend isn't among people in the general population.
Nonetheless, OC has the fourth highest hospitalization rate in California. But, supposedly there is a study by UC Irvine professors found that OC is doing better than surrounding counties. I can't seem to find it.
Yet, as a few weeks ago, county health officials thought we needed need hundreds to thousands more intensive care beds than currently are available for COVID patients. But that hasn't happened.
So it should be interesting to see what happens when things start opening up around here. We prepared for the worst, and luckily, that hasn't happened. Let's hope it doesn't happen when things start opening up.
I'm beginning to suspect it won't.
|
|
Look at Sweden. Follow the Swedish model and don’t bankrupt the country.
|
|
Testing has increased in OC, most likely leading to more confirmed cases.
My doc has asked me to come in for the antibody test as part of a data gathering project for the health authorities.
happy to comply in order to provide data
Won't matter much to me
If I'm positive, then I'm an asymptomatic carrier
If not, then I've not been infected
either way, I go about my business using the procedures
I'm an adult and can determine the risk
Fuck Nuisance!
OC beaches are open!
Eat a dick
Stop running for President
|
|
I want to encourage ALL OC Republicans to go out as often as you like. Exercise to right to go into Emergency Rooms and inhale deeply, lick up the surfaces. Mingle in large groups. Don't let anyone inhibit your right to infect yourself. You have my support!

numbers can be manipulated to justify any position. Screwsome is running for President 2024, and Garcetti for governor as soon as his boyfriend is termed out or moves to DC. the only reason Screwsome didn't run this time is because his GF Kamala declared before he did.
FUCK SCREWSOME, GARCETTI, KAMALA AND THE JACK ASS THEY RODE IN ON!!!!!!

I see the lifting of the shutdown by the states similar to a charging army
You don't retreat unless you being slaughtered
That has never the case. Sure some people will die but if you retreat you
You have already lost. We can't retreat now. We must continue
to move forward.

Or we can sit at home for the next 3 months collecting our welfare checks. 😜
And pretend this never happened by drinking and getting high

When the politicians and news people go without pay and benefits....and feel the pain of NO income....then they can tell us all what to do.....

I think when we open things up, if it's faster than experts envisioned, we may end up being ok, we may end up not being ok. Some of it is random luck, to be honest. You may notice spikes of cases in nursing homes (like you are now), or spikes of cases from 40,000 people being crammed into a beach. It doesn't mean that that these spikes could necessarily make their way into the general population, but they could. And then we'd end up with exponential growth of cases again and ruin all the good work we've done with these shutdowns. So we should proceed slowly and carefully with opening, and hopefully good luck will be on our side to not deliver a second wave.

Repugnicunt crybabies. I though liberal's were supposed to be the snowflakes. A few weeks without fucking over the little guy and white walkers crack.

I think the Georgia question won’t really be answered for another week or two.

Either the Governor will be a hero or a goat.

Straightman - Follow Sweden? Their infection rate is 7-12 times higher than surrounding countries (Denmark, Norway, & Finland) and their death rate is 3-5 times higher. Follow Sweden. Great fucking idea.

reaper...comparing the two is the most repulsive and repugnant thing I can imagine. You obviously are totally clueless about the holocaust or you would NOT make such a despicable comparison.
Do some research before you make such a blatant fool of yourself.

He obviously took the photo down, but it was photos of Hitler and Trump....
