Wait, you are worried more about corporations than people?
|
|
That one corporation just permanently laid off 4,400 people.

Restaurants re-opening to 40 to 50 % of previous capacity, yet they'll still have the similar fixed expenses to run their business...
Which means that they'll either be charging a lot more to dine in, or they'll be forced to put half hour time clocks on tables, so that they can turn them much faster... Also, the bar area of a restaurant was a cash cow, well with social distancing, thus fewer people allowed in the bar area, their bar sales will plummet as well... Lines will be long outside restaurants, and frankly, I just don't see how many restaurants will be able to stay open. It's going to be ugly for the restaurant business...
As for the buffet types of places --- Souplantation, Fuddruckers, Golden Corral, etc... They're going to be a thing of the pass... Just no way to make that scenario work in new normal...
I had a craving for some Taco Bell yesterday, and I went through the drive thru, and the lady handed me my change in a big cup and then passed me my stuff in a bag that was sealed and placed on a tray to be handed to me... I applaud their efforts, but the new normal is just going to be mind boggling to us all...

I didn't like Soupdesolation anyway. If you look at what the company did, it doesn't seem like they tried really hard to reinvent. "Meh, we give up. Bye!"
Has to be more to the story for them to walk away. Not conspiracy grade crap but business logic (or bad leadership)

Yeah, my soup plantation down the street was a victim of the crisis. I heard.
But the people are alive and have options.
|
|
I used to like going to Rudefuckers. They had good burgers and awesome Chili Dogs. I will miss them.
At least Red Robin isn't buffet style so they good...
But yeah, like Molloy pointed out... reastraunts & bars cant operate with social distancing and make money like the old days. The distancing needs to taper off.

@jackrabbit33: my point exactly. We need to get back to normal, NOT to "the new normal". The China virus is NOT going to be a permanent pestilence on this country. If anything, it's revealed the source of the REAL pestilence that afflicts this nation: blue-state governors and their henchmen. And I'm talking about YOU, Gavin New-Scum and Sonny Cuomo.

"How can we design a food-human interaction environment that is basically like driving your dog up to Petco, giving him money, and saying, 'why don't you go in and get whatever you think you should have?'" - Jerry Seinfeld on buffets

Many restaurants break even on food sales but make their profit on beverages.
Liquor is obviously the biggest money maker. Non-alcoholic beverages are huge money makers.
Soda, coffee and tea, typically cost a restaurant between 5 and 20 cents per serving. Throw in the cost of labor to serve and wash the glass or cup and they are still making a huge profit.
That is why most of the restaurants are NOT making it on take out and delivery only. They don't get to sell you that overpriced beverage.

100% agree with the OP
a bunch of fucking sheep being herded and most of America is rolling with it.
We live in a fear based society and it’s sad that as many people in america as there are and we can’t stand up to the elected officials that strip us of these rights daily!?!
I won’t vaccinate. I won’t wear a mask. And I promise I won’t lick your face if you don’t want me to. 😜
But to those that hang on every word our (funded by politicians) news broadcasters say, WAKE THE HELL UP!!!!
How dare they call anyone an essential worker versus non essential worker. Every last one of them/us IS essential. Practice social distancing... FINE! BUT QUIT BEING MANIPULATED BY THE CORRUPTION OF OUR GOVERNMENT!
Does it Really makes sense to those same people that hang on every word the media says to cram all of the people into Walmart with social distancing rules in place as opposed to letting the mom and pop shops implement social distancing at their locations to give everybody a fair chance at surviving this so-called pandemic? Absolutely not!

I have no self control in a buffet environment.
|
|
I heard Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Mavericks say that
based on his research only about 60% of the businesses will reopen
once the shutdown is lifted. How sad. That's a huge number of people
who have lost their jobs permanently.
I certainly hope this huge infusion of cash by the Fed govt keeps the economy
from tanking further.

Question
I am older than dirt. I did a you tube on how one eats while wearing a mask.
Would someone be kind enough to send me the link?
At this time I'm having to emulsify my food. Of course I'm using a straw approved by the state of California.
Even though my steak is medium rare it doesn't taste right.
Help an old guy out I don't know which way I came in.

Sound like a butt head. LOL
|
|
People eating at Souplantation must have been the same people that bought all the TP. That place was gross.
|
|
So does this mean Vegas buffets will suffer the same fate?
2 terms I hate in 2020 so far...
"We are all in this together" which is Bullshit
"New Normal" Fuck that shit!
Might was well close all bowling alleys, concert venues, convention centers and sports arenas/stadiums.
Fucking insanity!

Maybe Horn & Hardart's Automat will make a comeback!
Single queue, can be spaced...

I see a new yorker

Good! I can’t stand the fact that Sizzlers clam chowder is better than Soup Plantations Clam chowder.
|

Souplantation sucks!!!

Butt_Head sounds like he's running for President.

the coming financial crisis will make 2008 look like a day at the water park. when all these companies default on huge loans and the banks start to report their quarterly earnings. also, the federal aid that the unemployed are currently getting with the extra $600 a week will be coming to a close in july. in august, mortgages for homes will start going into default.
enjoy the last hurrah, people. life ain't going to be the same for the next decade.
|

Diamond Girl....I think Mustang Ranch has that one covered....LOL.
|
|
We are all in this together! says the billionaire corporations and government.
But when it comes to any kind of relief on bills? Fuck you! Pay us!
|
|
KML,
You are correct about the bankruptcy filing. Soup Plantation had improved since since that filing by lowering expenses and improving their marketing. The profitability of the restaurant was slowly turning around. Of course nobody knows whether the chain would have been around ten years from now. The new rules regarding buffets was going to make it impossible to complete the turn around.
|
|
ButtHead, how old is dirt?
Good question
Well there are no green bananas laying around my place.
Farting dust is a common occurrence.
A hell of a lot older than jizzy aka hime.
Someone said decade? That ain't in the cards.
You youngins can straighten this mess out.
I am heading to China since they had less than 84,000 confirmed cases of ole 19.
Not bad for a population over 1,408,526,449 ?

The other day a buddy of mine at Cal-trans said the state wanted a complete count of all road blocking signs and other road blocking equipment.
The guy has been there 30 years and this has never been a request.
Perhaps, with meat shortages becoming a thing and the trickle down shortages that will be ensuing because of that, they are preparing for the supply chain to experience some kind of break down.
Perhaps, if/when that happens we will experience some kind of martial law.
Thats when the shit really hits the fan.
|
|
ButtHead, if you're farting dust then keep a Swiffer near your ass.
|
|
Show us your tits BlueDiamond. Then we'll see Something...

Soup plantation sucked...it was $60 for 4 people. I can go to OG and spend 75 for 4 and get a lot better salad and pasta to boot.
Plus SP and GC was like the Walmart of restaurants.
|
|
I just stocked up my garage fridge and freezer with a bunch of provisions.
Went to 4 stores and they are starting to look as barren as I have ever seen in this country.
It's all fun and games until the food shortages kick in.
And I keep asking myself if it was worth it to collapse society to save 1% of the population.

All you people who are saying, "Souplantation sucks!" are missing a bigger point. If this becomes nationwide policy, ALL buffets will shut down. From Las Vegas to Golden Corral to that Chinese place that has all you can eat. ALL of them. And all their workers lose their jobs. This is UNACCEPTABLE!
And yes, I do vote against the idiots who are consciously destroying this economy, this society and this country. From Gavin New-Scum, the clown who gave the world Poop City, all the way down the line. Fortunately, parts of the IE are still part of America.

Clubman,
You must have been doing it wrong. I could eat dinner at Soup Plantation for less than $10 which means it was not much more expensive than eating fast food at McDonalds.
Stumpy
|

The point is: Soup plantations sucks!!!
|

Not only did soup Plantation suck it was hard to swallow.
