On March 1st i got my ass royally kicked by the " Flu" 100 fever for 8 days ( off and on) sore throat,my left eye swelled up full of nasty stuff,weakness that had me holding on to things,deep cough that was chocking at times. Couldn't catch my fucking breath,left me seeing little floating stars and complete loss of taste and smell for a week. I took a shitload of OTC Delsym which is hands down the best cough syrup available to mankind and kept popping Tylenols and a truckload of Xanax to ease my anxiety and knock me out. This shit was nasty. 3 weeks later i started to cough up balls of phlegm coated with blood. By then i started feeling much better. Never got tested at the time but im waiting for the free negative antibody test. I called everywhere but the greedy pharma narcos are charging $140 for a test. Fuck them. I feel back to normal now and have a shitload of energy. probably more than i did before i got sick. Now im popping 3000mgs of vit C,5000 of D3 and 60 mgs of Zinc daily. I aint letting whatever i had get a hold of me again. Hells no.

The USA has had contingency plans in place for a pandemic since at least the SARS outbreak in 2003. All Trump had to do was let the plans get deployed. There are experts in the federal machinery that could have helped mitigate, albeit not entirely prevent, the spread throughout the US.
Instead, Trump found it politically expeditious to downplay the risk. He's called this "totally unexpected" in an attempt to make everyone forget that he disbanded the Pandemic Response office that had been established in 2015.
At every level of his administration, Trump has replaced competent experts with sycophantic bootlickers. It's no wonder that this administration fucked things up so badly.

Historically, the federal government has been responsible for coordinating the response at the national level and relying on the states to implement the details at the local level. The vast majority of our taxes go to the federal government so that a national plan can be orchestrated. It is also wiser to concentrate the experts at the federal level rather than have states compete for the talent. There is a reason that CDC, flawed as it may be, can only be effective as a national institution.
Add to that, the states are not privy to the intel that is continuously being gathered by the feds, and only by the feds. Imagine the ridicule if ANY governor claimed to be acting on sensitive information obtained by that state's intelligence office.
This situation has been unique in that the states have had to act without any leadership from the federal government. If it were any other country in the world, we would all be deriding the situation as a keystone cops parody.
You may as well ask why the states are not prepared to resist an armed invasion. This is not the 18th century any more.

The states have their fair share of blame, I'll grant you that. But they have been failed by the national leadership that has performed far below what is expected. Since Trump wants to be regarded as a "wartime president" he should act the part.
And as far as the states having the ultimate responsibility, I would ask you if you are a Californian first and an American second? I'm quite sure you and everyone else on this site would disagree with that statement. Has anyone ever signed up to fight in a foreign war because they were a proud citizen of [insert random state here]?
To illustrate further, I need only quote a document that I'm sure you would agree with.

I am both but that has nothing to do with anything. Just stop trying to twist in the wind to prove your non-existent point. A foreign war and a pandemic are a false equivalency.
Hyder is on to something. Everybody has a responsibility to play the part they can. The science is constantly evolving and the goal posts always on the move. This constant blame game is counter-productive when it's about nothing but political gain rather than solutions that work.
