I agree, but I lament that science is being so politicized these days.
|
|
It’s not the science, it’s the egos.
|
|
You can get an "expert" for any position you want to take. I think restraint and skepticism is lost on most people today, people are too eager to back a position based on ideas that they hold not the evidence being provided.
Almost all of us are guilty of this, it's a rare person that allows themselves the freedom to admit that they were wrong or did not understand something completely.

Science is only being politicized by the Republicans. On the left, science is still science; facts are facts.
|
|
@prufroc - Bullshit
|

Well, considering that the vast majority of young-earthers and creationists are Republican, I think it's pretty safe to say that Prufrock10 is correct.
Flat-earthers are probably a bit more even, but it's been shown that they are largely dominated by religion, so they probably lean Republican.

WTF Ever dude. Who is using broad generalizations here?

OP, Your other blog got deleted. Was it because of your usual fake gloom blogs?

"Science is only being politicized by the Republicans. On the left, science is still science; facts are facts."
Don't know many Republicans but I know bullshit when I smell it. I picked just one topic, anti-vaxers. I doubt there's a Republican on that linked list.
There's another 10 topics or more where we'd find idiots from the left and the right being dumbases.
Maybe prufrock meant "on the left, Scientology is science?
What a stupid post, lol.
|
|
Consider if you will, the sheer irony of prufrock's post.
Against all empirical evidence and data, prufrock would make a declaratory statement that is so easily provable as false. How scientific!
You can't make this shit up

Mikovits has credentials but that doesn't make her sane.
OP could us a bit more gloom in this blog though.
Some number of lemmings headed over the cliff.
That's a good start, but...
We need something more pervasive, even galactic. Something like......
"Mikovits will kill all life on the planet, with the reduction in biomass creating planetary orbital instability such that the solar system is doomed. And, lemmings will die too."

I'm pretty sure Anti-vaxxers are libertarians...
Politics is a circle.
The far left and the far right kind of meet at 6 o'clock more often than you think.
I think libertarians should all put their money where their mouths is.
Sign a pledge to stay off the highways, grow their own food, don't use public services, and never use the hospitals when they get sick.
If they did this, they wouldn't look like such hypocrites.
|
|
I should add, followers of L.Ron are also libertarians.
It's clear, GBD, that your research is shallow.

Geez, not another moron. Who specified this location as a short bus stop?
"In the United States, polls (circa 2006) find that the views and voting habits of between 10% and 20%, or more, of voting age Americans may be classified as "fiscally conservative and socially liberal, or libertarian".
It doesn't mean Libertarians aren't willing to pay taxes for roads or other services, dummy. Why do i even bother, you likely don't have the IQ to understand any of it anyway, waste of time.
Maybe YOU should do a little research before leading with your face into a shit pie?

besides which, the topic is Mikovits not political science.
How did you even find yourself able to sign up for this site?

@Granite: "what's your point? Oh, i know: belief in God = ignorance"
Looks like I struck a nerve there. I don't agree that belief in God = Ignorance. I know plenty of highly intelligent, well-informed believers.
However, if you're clinging to a literal interpretation of Genesis and believe in a 6000-year old earth, then yeah, you're a fucking ignoramus.

Ok so I'm struck by the notion that "western math is racist"... Jesus Christ can we stop hearing that overused term.
As an engineer who actually has a degree and does design for a living I can say that the advances in applied mathematics for the purposes of engineering and science happened in the western world.
The needs go waaay beyond add, subtract, multiply, and divide. GMAFB
Newton gave us the beginnings of Calculus. Many others added to it from applied research.... then complex analysis and other more advanced forms.
You cant do futuristic development with an Abacus or Aborinal math. Teaching that would put students out of the competitive tech market sector.
It would seem that someone in the education system feels compelled to dumb down the school programs to match the level of skills resulting from our pathetic immigration policies.

Flat Earthers are "flat out stupid" and dont deserve party affiliation much less the right to vote.
On IG it seems the bulk of the Flat Earth enthusiats are in places like India and Pakistan. It's hilarious to debate with them
You cant prove one US party dominates that society and who cares anyways.

There has been politics in Science since before any of us were born whether it be the Catholic Church trying Galileo as a heretic for saying the Earth revolved around the sun or Edison trying to prove Tesla's alternating current was unsafe by creating an electric chair.

Will nominate Prufrock for TDS victim of the week.
|

The only flat earthers I ever met was definitely a Democrat. I cant prove that to anyone but its true. He also believed that the Moon landing was a hoax and was a follower of Farakhan.
Nice guy just a wee bit gullible.

@Granite: "Uh huh. So you tried show a correlation between religion, flat-earthers, and Republicans for no reason, then? "
There isn't a whole lot of data regarding flat earthers because it's a relatively new phenomenon, but they do definitely skew young and religious. The reason I say that it's a bit even is that the younger flat-earthers probably tend to skew Democrat, whereas the older ones skew GOP. But it's generally not disputed that religion plays a huge role. Their flat earth "model" helps support their belief in the bibilical story of creation.
As for religiosity and party affiliation, I present to you the data from Pew's religious landscape study, which you originally cited. It clearly shows that Republicans are far more likely to be religious than Democrats.
So, yes, these are in fact correlations between religion, flat-earthers, and Republicans. I'd also add young-earth creationism to that ven diagram as well.
If you're going to be religious, you need to own it. (1 Peter 3:15)

I laugh anytime someone yells "TDS". It gets thrown out there whenever the poster is backed into a corner and can no longer make any kind of intelligent rebuttal.
It's the barely-adult version of "I know you are but what am I?"
I swear, the movie Idiocracy has become real 480 years early.

|
"Flat Earthers are "flat out stupid" and dont deserve party affiliation much less the right to vote."
The reason I use flat-earthers as an example is that as a group they tend to espouse other conspiracy theories, such as the moon landing hoax-theory, chemtrails, Illuminati, etc.
There's also a lot of conspiracy theories being bandied about by the Covid-19 deniers here as well.
Whether they are related is too early to determine, and its not clear why some people are more prone to subscribe to conspiracy theories, but there does appear to be some overlap.
