Three months is a long time. I wonder why not an extra month and see where things are with the virus and with the economy before they decide to go longer? And ramp up testing and contact tracing, goddamnit!
More info: Don't think it's going to be a full lockdown for 3 months, just things won't be completely eased. They are already opening things up. From the LA Times:
"Los Angeles County’s stay-at-home orders will 'with all certainty' be extended for the next three months, county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer acknowledged during a Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.
Although county health officer Dr. Muntu Davis has not issued an official extension, Ferrer said that timeline would shorten only if there was a 'dramatic change to the virus and tools at hand.'
'Our hope is that by using the data, we’d be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months' she said. But without widely available testing for the coronavirus or rapid home kits that would allow people to test themselves daily, it seems unlikely that the social distancing directives and stay-at-home orders would be completely eased.
Neither Ferrer nor county health officials were immediately available to directly offer additional details. However, the county has already started to ease some restrictions and reopen the local economy under a five-step plan."

Glad I'm not in LA

After 3 months then they will want to wait till christmas.
Time for a revolt.
See why the 2nd amendment is so important!

I believe the DEMS are trying too drive Calif. Into the ground.
pelosi wants 3 trillion, TRILLION to had out to californias like it candy.
this women needs to go.
Damn, so basically make LA virus free by driving everyone out. There's some logic for you.
Newsom is going to run the California economy into the ground and into the center core of our planet...
Dude, wake the fuck up Gavin !!!
It's never going to be perfect to come back outside and turn on the economy, it will all have to coexist and we'll all practice the best in social distancing, masks, glove, hand washing, just the whole enchilada of the new normal...
It's going to be two years before we see some sort of picture of our pre-covid 19 normal, and we probably will never fully see it again, so get used to it, and let's get the economy going again...
So, run everybody out of LA? Then put up a wall, right?
"Guess I’ll have to put my pole up, invite some ladies over"
That's my line!

It is obviously disconcerting that the County of Los Angeles wants to extend the stay at home order, but that must mean things are not going well in LA. I saw Garcetti tearing up during his daily news conference last week, which says something. I'm sure he doesn't want another NYC on his hands.
Dr. Fauci testified today that the 83,000+ that are currently dead is an underestimate of the actual numbers. Now the projected deaths was raised to 147,000 by August, and that's with the social distancing that we've suffered through.
LA (and all of California) has been hurting financially every day this lockdown is extended. It is stupid to think they're doing this needlessly. Newsom actually said that over 70% of our economy is already open, but with limitations.
And it isn't helpful to talk about revolts and the 2nd Amendment. Those who demonstrate with fire arms, attempting to intimidate government officials to reopen the economy, are just a bunch of clowns. I'm sure you're all aware that billionaires Robert Mercer and the Koch brother (the other one just died) are funding the reopening protests. It would be admirable if these billionaires would stand shoulder to shoulder with those they are asking to protest, but quite frankly, they don't give a shit about the lives of those who are protesting and they'd never risk their own lives.
So, continue to protest and disregard the warnings of our mayors and governors (you're hurting yourselves and potentially risking your lives), but if you bring fire arms to the protests, I hope you're photoshopped like the picture I attached to this post (protestors from Wisconsin). I believe 72 people tested positive for coronavirus from that demonstration. Stop being stupid.

This is some retarded bullshit being pulled, what other city is opening up that late?
Georgia already opened up, new cases are staying constant.
If I recall, 80+% of the deaths are due to nursing homes. I don't get why they don't target those areas for protection.
Some half ass social distancing hasn't even shown to do shit. Here's a study showing how lockdown policies in Western Europe had no impact on COVID-19
This is some straight up BS.
Man, I'm ready to get back to work, and enjoy some quality of life.
It seems like NorCal sounds worse, they're not even planning to relax anything, the fuck?
makes Newsome's decision actually look better

"Georgia already opened up, new cases are staying constant."
Georgia, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming have been about the same or better since they reopened (to different degrees). Alabama, Maine, Missouri, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, and Iowa have had upswings in new cases since reopening. Still too early to see a trend.
"If I recall, 80+% of the deaths are due to nursing homes. I don't get why they don't target those areas for protection."
It's 27%
"Some half ass social distancing hasn't even shown to do shit. Here's a study showing how lockdown policies in Western Europe had no impact on COVID-19"
Sweden -- the only state in Western Europe that hasn't had a lock down -- has 2nd highest number of deaths per capita in Western Europe, after the UK. I agree that the models so far predicted much worse in Sweden than we have seen though.
I suppose I read a more vague statement, and the nursing home percentages vary greatly by state. I found in CA it was 40%.
An article here shows 90% in Connecticut.
Hmmm, I'm gonna need a source on Sweden. I'm seeing Italy, Spain, France, Belgium (and UK), all surpass Sweden.
Sweden is as bad as it is solely because they messed up and didn’t initially quarantine old folks homes. Had they actually done that, their death rate would have been super low while their economy is going up. That’s why you quarantine the sick, the elderly, and those with compromised systems but everyone else keeps working.

So far the statistics seem to indicate that in the worse case scenario about 0.5% of the
population would survive the virus. But in the effort to save about 250,000 lives we
will destroy at least 1 million businesses and the lives of at least 10 million people,
not to mention the amount of misery the shutdown is causing now and will
continue into the near future.
Now what person with any sense would agree to those terms?
But our state and local officials seem to believe that it is important to save
lives no matter what the cost.
Without business, there is no government. And since we pay all government
officials, they should take a huge pay cut since businesses are shutdown.
But of course they will not do that.
So many of you complain about Trump, but just look at how your
local officials are treating you. They are the REAL DICTATORS!
I'm surprised that we haven't been told not to have sex since
it definitely not practicing social distancing. LOL
And why hasn't anyone complained about the ads on HX, since
it doesn't encourage social distancing. LOL
New cases, not deaths. Sweden is the second highest now in new cases per capita in the EU, second to U.K. This should eventually translate to a significantly higher death rate per capita eventually for Sweden if they maintain this spot.
Source
Sweden is relatively low density and spatially spread out. I’m not sure the same approach that worked in Sweden would translate to areas with living conditions that are much more densely contained that house workers with essential jobs working closely together, like you would find in certain swaths of LA.
Having said that, smart policy in LA should work around areas that are less densely populated that house workers who can socially distance when they work, and cut those areas a little slack.
LA is a dumpster fire.
Early on, Nuisance should've have had the National Guard close all escape routes and let LA fester in its own Covid soup.
25% of CA population
Almost 50% of cases
55% of deaths
Without LA, California has a mild flu season and no reason for full lockdown.
If you're Nuisance, this is an opportunity though to look presidential and beg for a trillion from Donnie
Will have another viewpoint on Sweden in next post

"I'm sure you're all aware that billionaires Robert Mercer and the Koch brother (the other one just died) are funding the reopening protests."
Oh, the horror! You mean same Koch that fund half of PBS budget? That have given millions to charities with no strings? Koch's are no better or worse than Soros or Buffet, typical MostlyAnnoying post.
Here's the background of the hypocrite woman that wrote your first link, course you just drink the kool-aid without looking at the source....Lisa Graves TrueNorthResearch
"True North Research is a for-profit research firm founded by left-of-center activist Lisa Graves in 2007. The firm conducts political and policy research aimed at exposing the influence of conservative and free-market leaning businessmen and businesses. [1] While it does not disclose its clients, True North Research states on its website that it works with organizations only “if our goals are aligned.”
Graves has been criticized for using “dark money” tactics in her own organizations despite criticizing their use by conservative groups. She serves on the advisory board of the radical anti-academic freedom organization UnKoch My Campus, which has received funding through the same pass-through funding vehicles that Graves denounces on the right. [4] At CMD, following an investigation of the organization’s finances by Watchdog.org, Graves claimed that up to 30 percent of CMD’s budget was funded by a single anonymous donor whose identity was unknown to her. The journalist who conducted the investigation later said, “Why is it bad when others [take anonymous money] but totally okay when Lisa Graves does it?”

LA should reopen. It sounds callous that more people will die if we reopen, but if we do not, there will be depression, hunger, and in the end, violence in the streets.
Fisher wrong again, as usual, gotta support that agenda!
"Privately compiled data shows nursing home deaths now account for more than half of all fatalities in 14 states, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Only 33 states report nursing home-related deaths."
Second source also almost 50% in LA County
Anybody wonder how many plain old influenza deaths versus Covid deaths this year in LA County?
It's not easy to find that info, but looks to be somewhere between 700 - 1,000 compared to 1,600 Covid deaths thru today. Stats on both are fuzzy due to under/over counts, variety of reasons.
You make the call if that looks like the shutdown should stay in place. Keep in mind that the whole state is at 2,886 CV19 deaths, so LA is 55% of the total.
More shutdown?
You gotta be kidding me
Just nuke LA, problem solved

U.S. Surpass every country in daily Testing .

Our government is so fucking dumb.
The CA govt. is WAYYY out of control. You will see when compared to other states and country's down the road. 2000 deaths in 5 1/2 months? because its a fact that the virus hit CA in december and is far past the peak. More people die crossing the street in this lenghth of time. CA is being strangled to death by political nonsense let alone uncostitutional
I remember President Trump saying the decision to start up the
Country after the lockdown would be the toughest decision of his
Presidency. Now I know why he gave that decision to the state
Governors. It’s a no win situation. So let the democrat governors
Do it their own way and ditto for the republican governors and let’s
See who was smarter after it’s all over.
Democrats & Republicans are the equivalent to good cop/bad cop. Despite their so-called different approaches, they strive for the same agenda, and serve the same masters. Same thing goes to celebrities, and the media.
If you are not part of the elite, then the struggle is real.

Blah Blah BS

"Our data collection effort finds that in the 23 states that publicly report death data as of April 23, 2020, there have been over 10,000 reported deaths due to COVID-19 in long-term care facilities (including residents and staff), representing 27% of deaths due to COVID-19 in those states. Our data also finds that there have been over 50,000 reported cases, accounting for 11% of coronavirus cases in 29 states. In six states reporting data, deaths in long-term care facilities account for over 50% of all COVID-19 deaths (Delaware, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Utah; Table 2)"
Agenda my ass, GoBallsToSleep. 27% best reflects what's going on in the nation as a whole, as far as we can tell by the collected data.
