Not as simple as you suggest. Many people can’t isolate because they are essential workers. They go home to crowded houses where they can infect their grandparents in apartments where it is impossible to isolate. If we don’t get the number of new cases down, this virus is going to end up killing a lot more people, as well as give others permanent lung, heart, and kidney damage.

How are we supposed to keep staying at home when bills are not going away and millions are furloughed or laid off?
Federal unemployment bump is supposed to end in July.

I love how the people who are pushing for continued shutdown....government workers and media haven't lost a nickel. They continue to receive full income and benefits....no skin in the game whatsoever.
I have been saying....let's roll back to mid March and take back all salary and benefits from the politicians and media people and not give them a dime moving forward and we can see if they will still be saying keep it shut down for more time.....

Money can be replaced by Congress being allowed to act; lives cannot.
We just needed the lockdown to get case numbers and deaths low again, then switch to a ramped up testing, tracing, and quarantining system. Now we have cases plateaued at relatively high levels and no significant testing, tracing, and quarantining. It is a fucking mess. So we’ll open up with cases being relatively high. The economy is not going to recover in this situation anyway, when people feel unsafe.

I bet they would. They obviously care about others, that’s why they wanted to do this lockdown in the first place. I guess those screaming to open up don’t know what it’s like to care about others; that’s why it would seem strange when those that do might give up their salaries until cases are low.

Take an Economics class please....understand how this country operates fiscally.....
Every nickel that is given away by the government or spent by the government must be paid by someone.....this virus could continue to kill for many years to come.....are we to stay shut down indefinitely???

Everyday we kill people.....more people have died from pneumonia this year than Covid-19....

More people have died of other things this year because the lockdowns worked. Locking down to protect car deaths make no sense because an extremely small fraction out of TRILLIONS of car rides per year are lethal.
I bet I’ve taken more Econ classes than you have, Jazz. You need fiscal responsibility during normal times so when there is an emergency, like this year, you can spend.

You can’t open smart and intelligently when new cases haven’t gone down at all and are just plateauing. That is a recipe for disaster in terms of deaths, and people won’t feel safe.

to save lives. 99.95% of the people will survive the coronavirus, yet look at the
amount of damage to the economy and misery to our way of life this shutdown is causing.
How many people will die from the stress of having lost their
businesses, jobs, not have their serious illnesses addressed because they were
not able to see a doctor, children not being educated, being stuck at home with little to do, and released criminals allowed to continue to commit crimes with little consequences.
Watching the destruction of the American way of life is a high price to pay to save
