Awesome! Looks like the gloom part comes in on the receiving end!
Can I buy it on Amazon Prime?
OK, cool! But what's the status of the Photon Torpedo banks???
A positive post about the USA? Did OP post from his other account?
Yeah heres a positive one for ya!
"The US Navy has successfully tested a ship based laser weapon that can destroy enemy aircraft in mid flight. "
Thats Star Warsish
^^^Will that be our Glorious Leader's portrait at SpaceForce Academy??
No but maybe they can make it his White house Presidential Portrait when Biden is President..
I want one of those next time I play Laser Tag
I'm holding out enlisting until they commission Starship Enterprise.
150 kilowatts? I'll hold out for the 1.21 gigawatts version.
So how many more watts do we need til we have Death Star planet killing capability?
I used to be amazed at what SLQ32 could do back in the day. This is a whole new level of melting shit... I didn't see anything about the range... did I miss that?
^^^ Nor did I, just its speed. I'm guessing it can't adjust vector in relation to the curvature of the earth. Or is there some way to arc the beam...
Fuckers burned Trump 2020 in the moon. Is nothing sacred?
Fricken man buns... there's no need to get that nasty Dude. That's just wayyyy to wrong ... beneath you and just plain uncalled for.
@jules... looks like it is tested as anti aircraft therefore curvature of the earth or 8 miles doesn't come in to play. Since it's an energy beam there wouldn't be an arc the energy would just dissipate I'd imagine. But after what distance? I mean would shooting at a target 80 miles a way or 20 would you be worried of hitting anything else?
I know I know questions none of us can get an answer for but interesting to me.
I remember when they were talking about rail guns and have even developed them.... but the amount of energy that they would use to fire a round was too great to put on any ship at the time. Keep in mind that means nuclear power vessels as well.
So let's say you have a threatening aircraft at 50,000 feet 80 miles away from your ship. The threat is such that the target has to be destroyed before it gets any closer. You direct a targetted beam with sufficient energy to destroy or disable. At that altitude and range, a sizeable volume of the earth's atmosphere along the beam's path is being subjected to destructive heat. Anything that accidentally intervenes in its path would also be destroyed without some kind of method of target discrimination.
So now my question is, Do the designers and executors of the weapon treat this as collateral damage?
Or, is there a way for them to selectively target without killing anything else?
That's better than my purple laser that can set toilet paper on fire from six feet away and my wife won't let me bring in the house.
But seriously I can't wait to see it on a jet fighter. No more need for gatling guns. Light is much faster than bullets.
Can this be used by LAPD during high speed chases?
In a world with supersonic and soon hypersonic anti-ship delivery systems, this light show needs to get a lot better in a hurry. Regardless of the speed of light laser, there's the issue of detecting and targeting a small object traveling 3,600mph. From 60 miles away, you have 60 seconds to detect, identify, target and destroy. What if someone shoots 4 of those at your ship?
It's still pretty cool though. I ordered a handheld Klingon Disruptor and a cloaking device off the Infowars website. It comes with some free Super Male Vitality in a tub.
Super Male Vitality in a tub?
Shit GBD, you'll be banging every Orion Sex Slave from here to Ceti Alpha 5.
Dude. Biden's never going to be President. Even on the outside chance he wins the election, he will never take office. The man is f-ing senile! He will be replaced before inauguration, and not with his VP either. Beware the Clintons and the new world order. You may hate Trump, but wait until you see how viciously the left will anally violate their own (that's you) when they have full power and control. Obamacare was just a test. They're coming for you too...and they're serious this time around.
It literally is a Photon Torpedoe...
"It is throwing massive amounts of photons at an incoming object," Hughes said. "We don't worry about wind, we don't worry about range, we don't worry about anything else. We're able to engage the targets at the speed of light."
More of a photon beam.
Star Trek Photon Torpedoes are independent bursts.
Oh... and I call bullshit - “ I remember when they were talking about rail guns and have even developed them.... but the amount of energy that they would use to fire a round was too great to put on any ship at the time.”
I saw them use one to blow off the top of a pyramid in Transformers 2.
Not going to get anything like this in a car for highway patrol to use because of energy source issues.
I agree with mentioned concerns about over horizon threats being out of site. However, a fleet at sea could be protected by having specialized escort vessels operating out on a wide perimeter to protect the centrally located carriers and destroyers.
LOL @ JC
That is something to aspire to
To Infinity and Beyond!
By the way
Did I mention that I did the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
fooking cheesy ass Star Wars, a parsec is a unit of distance not time.
pew pew pew
I forgive George Lucas for the 3 prequels, but not for handing over the reins to J.J. Abrams and all the stupid-ass reboots they've made for the Millenials and beyond.
I bet the U.S.govt has other secret weapons that we don't know about, unless a major war
breaks out.
I believe one reason that Trump created the SPACE FORCE was in anticipation of
the possible use of these new weapons and technology.
^ Agreed
@jackrabbit33 what if they put a Flux Capacitor in the trunk of the police car tho...
Jack shit. The flux capacitor need to be plugged into the sound system and you need to have Zeppelin pumped up to 11.
Fuck JJ Abraham, and praise for Feloni.
His handling of the final Clone Wars and his episodes of the Mandalorian have been brilliant.
Who knew that Gloom guy was such a Star Wars aficionado?
If they ever get the flux capacitor attached to the sound system, I can hear the voice now....
"Quaid, start the reactor"
"Klaatu barada nikto"
Lol @ flux capacitor 👌
