Dr. Cornell West, noted socialist, claims, “We are witnessing America a failed social experiment.”

Here is the context....

“ The system cannot reform itself. We've tried black faces in high places. Too often our black politicians, professional class, middle class become too accommodated to the capitalist economy, too accommodated to a militarized nation-state, too accommodated to the market-driven culture of celebrities, status, power, fame, all that superficial stuff that means so much to so many fellow citizens.

And what happens is we have a neofascist gangster in the White House who doesn't care for the most part. You've got a neoliberal wing of the Democratic party that is now in the driver's seat with the collapse of brother Bernie and they really don't know what to do because all they want to do is show more black faces -- show more black faces. But often times those black faces are losing legitimacy too because the Black Lives Matter movement emerged under a black president, a black attorney general, and a black Homeland Security [Secretary] and they couldn't deliver. So when you talk about the masses of black people, the precious poor and working-class black people, brown, red, yellow, whatever color, they're the ones left out and they feel so thoroughly powerless, helpless, hopeless, then you get rebellion.

We've reached a point now a choice between nonviolent revolution -- and by revolution what I mean is the democratic sharing of power, resources, wealth and respect. If we don't get that kind of sharing, you're going to get more violent explosions. Now the sad thing is in the neofascist movement in the White House, you have some neofascist brothers and sisters out there who are already armed. They show up at U.S. capitol and they don't get arrested, they don't get put down. The president praises them. See what I mean? ...

White supremacy is going to be around for a long, long, long time, don't be surprised when this happens again. Try again, fail again, fail better. That's the blues line of our Irish brothers. But the question is we must fight. Even in the moment where we have a failed social experiment, we must fight. We must have an antifascist coalition against the White House-Republican party. We have to tell the truth about the milquetoast cowardly activity too often we see too often in the neoliberal wing of the Democratic party.”

Where I are with his evaluation, I disagree with his conclusion. “The system cannot reform itself.”

It’s difficult... BUT....The system must reform itself.

The only other choice is to tear the system down... which then further crushes the powerless. Those with power are comfortable right now... and would be less comfortable if the current system is destroyed. But those at the bottom would be even further disenfranchised... and the current system which offers them some protections... would be gone.

America is not a failed social experiment... it is a slow moving social experiment. Obviously to slow for most of us.

We will never have a perfect nation with perfect distribution of goods, services, property and wealth... but we will continue to as President Obama said, “continue towards becoming a more perfect union.”

It’s horrible where we are right now... but keep it in perspective. Perspective of history... and future progress. We change... but it take a loooong time to change a nation. We are changing.

Am I satisfied... No. Am I hopeful? Yes. Hopeful for my family... those who come behind me. Those who need change more than I do.... So I desire it as quickly as possible.

The are pains of change. These are the birth pangs of a “more perfect union.”

Makes me want to ask Dr. West if he has an example he'd like to share of a successful social experiment...

^ that is the right question.

“democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms” - Winston Churchill

It’s not perfect... but it is best we have right now.

The generation of blacks who suffered in times of old were victims. As well, victims of their own culture, because they were captured and sold to traders by native tribes.

Our democracy bears no relationship to its original form. Responsible, educated Greek men took an active part in running the government of the city state. The term democracy literally means the strength of the common people. The problem is that the common people in Greece at the time meant the educated citizen men (yes it was a patriarchy) of the city state. It worked great because it was based on responsibility and the fact that every man had the best interest of the state in mind.

In our democracy, every person, from the dumbest Kardashian watching motherfucker to Dr. Fauci has a vote. The exact same vote. And there are more dumb motherfuckers than Dr. Faucis. And dumb motherfuckers are more easily fooled than Dr. Faucis soooooo.... we are slowly getting the exact government that we deserve. At some point America will be Chicago or Baltimore or NYC or LA on a grand scale. Socialists are experts at manipulating dummies (read Animal Farm by George Orwell).

We are seeing the social media mob whipped into a frenzy over a tragic incident by the likes of Don Lemon (who's CNN was ironically attacked by the assholes he's inciting). If we were all Greeks we would look at the data. (We might see that cops kill way more white dudes than black dudes. Literally and proportionally to the demographics. Also, black cops kill black dudes more often than any other race cop.) But we're not 4th century Greeks. We're mostly dumb motherfuckers.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-police-kill-more-whites-than-black-people/

What's True

In absolute numbers, more white people than black people are killed in police shootings (because white people outnumber black people in America).

What's False

Overall, black Americans are several times more likely to be killed in police shootings than white Americans are.

White perps versus black perps versus hispanic perps etc. Unfortunately, people don't commit crimes at the same rate as their racial demographic breakdown.

Hime.... I know you were there.... but your info is incomplete.

as your info Kiss me...

Africans were being enslaved Long before Europeans joined in. Persians were enslaving black Africans in the 700s and used as virtually free labor (Ala American chattel slavery of 1600’s-1800s).

It was common for African tribes to conquer each other. The “losers” were often sold by the “winners” to foreign slave traders. Chattel Slavery became a profitable business on the west African coast. Most slaves sold to the Americas were caught by African slave traders, not people forced into it... but for the profit.

We ought not try to sanitize history. Those enslaved were victims... but victims of willing slave traders on both continents.

The heart of American Slavery was profit. Profit from Africa all the way to the cotton and tobacco fields of the south.
There is a reason the Bible says, ‘The love of money is the root of all evil.”
People do horrible things to each other for money. White people, brown people, black people, yellow people, red people... and if purple people existed... they would too. No culture or ethnicity is exempt or above it. The only thing that has ever changed it was futures that created the “rule of law.” The reason they needed the law is people would continue without it.

Slavery continues today in some parts of the world... including Africa.

There were some Africans forced into slave trading... but the reality is money ruled the day.
