So shut off cell phones so when someone gets hurt they cant call for help?
What about the people who live in the houses near by and need the cell phone?

They don't believe in science, They are conspiracy theories ,Paranoid as fuck
and have a short term memories when it comes to trump.
I know people lived without a cell phone. 200 years ago we lived without the internet and air conditions
Technology makes it easier if you have the tech why not use it.

Looters not wanting to take their cars ( license plates are video recorded ), are using public transportation. Resulting in public transportation being shut down at seven PM today in San Diego.

They can turn off data and the cell phone will still be able to make calls. The rioters would be rendered helpless without Alexa or siri.

Lets be honest, the protestors did not start the looting...
we all seen who did  and who continues to do so, but the media wont cover that.

People have been cooped up in the house for months already itching for a reason to get out and let free..
Alot of people haave been out of work and down on your luck.
Alot of people are mad at the way our country is handling alot of issues, not even surrounding the current events.
Alot of those kids are just out there living out their video game fantasies.
This just gave them reason to act out. But not all of the people are out there for the cause.

Not everyone uses land lines even though they are still quite prevalent. Turning off cell phones would leave a portion of the public without communication access to emergency services and in some cases unable to work (Cell as a hotspot for work WIFI).
Reverting everyone back to land lines would take years.

Shutting phones off is problematic because so few people have a land line anymore to call for help, report looting, fires, or medical emergencies.
However...the cell phone companies certainly can and should shut down text messaging and internet access to phones in certain areas. That shuts down the mass communication, and phone calls saying where to loot next would have to be one call at a time.
That plus more tear gas, rubber bullets, and allowing the National Guard to shoot looters on sight.

I'm sure this is a stupid question and yes I'm an engineer but not a computer/software engineer or an it guy so ... is it possible to leave cell phone reception on but turn off the social media sites like twitter, instagram etc? Those are the platforms that looters are getting info from.
As far as who the people looting are, I was watching ABC news last night and they were showing that people who were looting and burning were ACTING as if they were part of the groups that were peacefully protesting, then you'd see them splitting off from the protesters and break into different business. The looters aren't just black's, they're hispanics and anglos/whites, essentially just people taking advantage of the cover the protesting groups give.

Atticus, not a bad question.... I think you can cut off their data that would hobble the phone but if they can still get on wifi it would not prevent them from getting on facebook etc.
It would have to be a concerted effort I guess. But I think if you coordinated with all service providers In an area you could do it and it wouldn't have to be "the whole city" it could be small sections of town.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't a plan in place to do such things. But apparently there isn't a whole lot of planning going on and for a long time.
