They aren't building government housing for the poor...they are building high end luxury homes, condos, and apartments

Requirements for huge contributions to local jurisdictions for parks, infrastructure, etc.
Costly building permits
Delays in building permits
Inadequate number of inspectors that produces delays for approvals
Property requirements added - new solar requirement - adds to the affordability of the structure
And the list goes on.....
Supply and demand has taken over completely....demand and little supply....prices skyrocket.

Statically he is correct California population rate has risen both from 2010 and latest estimates that will not be published until next year. You can look at the census data published by Census.gov
since 2010 California has a growth rate of 7.01% or roughly 2.6 Million Increase if you are looking for just past 2018-2019 estimates are based on only a growth rate of .96% or 387K, of course these are trend estimates since there is no exact calculations.
but we are also talking about the most populous state in our nation, the second being texas 10 Million less (although texas land mass is 64% more than ca). There are other states that have definitely had higher growth rates but that is another discussion.
And if we want to talk about revenue.. everyone is dwarfed by California's revenue.
So as much as you would like to gripe about California, We are unparalleled vs other states head to head.. we have the money, the businesses, the people, and the beautiful women..
(mismanagement is a different discussion)

education, get government jobs and move into the middle class.
In CA, there has been plenty of efforts to help people of color and reduce
discrimination.
I've seen plenty of improvements over the past 50 years.
Yet, this is where we are now? Huge protests, looting, vandalism and killings.
I doubt that the protesting will bring about any radical changes.
The politicians are just appeasing the masses.
The shutdown due to the pandemic has created a lot of economic damage,
as well as psychological and emotional damage.
The looting, vandalism and killing have just made matters worse.
I expect things will get worse not better in the near future.

Thomas Sowell, greatest black economist ever,, wrote extensively how the black community had already made great strides in home ownership, starting businesses, etc in the 40 years prior to 1964 and the advent of LBJ's war on poverty.
Read his books and get educated on the destruction caused by 50 years and trillions wasted on these so-called social programs.

Actually the Civil Rights Act did not directly give blacks anything other than OPPORTUNITY.
It still took blacks and other minorities education, hard work and personal responsibility to acquire success, not a victim mentality.
Just imagine if Oprah Winfrey accepted the white privilege narrative instead of working hard in local media before creating her own media empire.
Just imagine if Tyler Perry accepted the white privilege narrative instead of writing small theatrical performances, starring in them, marketing them, and creating an entertainment empire.
What we need more of is dedicated parents and educators to teach the full history of this country and compare it to civilization as a whole, then you can appreciate what YOU can accomplish in spite of obstacles that will occur from time to time.

Having been involved in the building industry for 25 years, we don't call them "Unities" lol.
They're called entitlements and they can be 30% of the cost of building a home.
That doesn't include the restriction in supply as state, county, local zoning and regs remove more and more land from construction of residential stock.
Supply/demand is out of whack on the supply side
