Imagine that the guardians of the community that were good people stood by and watched as something bad happened to a good person at the hands of other guardians.
Imagine, would you voice a protest? Speak up and take action? Walk unarmed at the potential of certain bodily harm to protect an innocent? Even if that individual was attempting to overturn social norms?

officers are being attacked...stabbed, shot at, killed and maimed...maybe a few close calls and seeing your friends get hurt and killed could set you off against people not following directions and pushing you around and fighting you. what to do?
lots of cameras and video around... I am sure we will get to see quite a bit of it and some will be in the courts.

Interesting Facts: Minnesota has Democratic Governor, The Attorney General is Democrat Keith Ellison, in fact the first Muslim elected to congress. They have two Democratic Senators, one them Amy Klobucher was in the prosecutor office that filed charges against Officer Chavin back in 2006 ( although she didn't handle the case) Minneapolis has a Democratic Mayor and a new African American Police Chief. The congressional district where Mr Floyd was killed is represented by Illan Omar a Progressive Democrat.
Why weren't this issues of Police Procedure handled before this incident given the history of the Minneapolis Police Dept?

I'm stating that the Minneapolis Police Dept has a history of problems and after the 3rd civilian death at the hands of Police a top down review of polices should have been enacted and they had the people in place to perform these changes without a lawsuit.
I actually have to find myself agreeing with Crane and Jazz regarding overcharging.
I remember some of the commentary after the original Rodney King verdict was that the 4 police officers could have easily been convicted on lesser charges. I remember the case in Massachusetts of Louise Woodward the au pair charged with killing a child where the prosecution overcharged their case and the judge had to step in and overturn the verdict. I can think of several other cases where prosecutors got carried away for political reasons and they did not turn out well.
I hope the prosecutors in Minnesota are actually filing charges they can actually prove and not trying to grandstand by overcharging. It will be a huge mess if these cops all walk.

If you did your homework and actually knew WTF you are talking about....LA is reducing its INCREASE in PD funding by $150m. They were going to go from $1.1B up to about $1.6B, but now that increase is being decreased. Still an enormous increase. And you characterize it like a defunding. Morons. Regarding police oversight... You do know the DAs office is an elected official right? In cities like New York the Police commissioner is a politically appointed position. You have oversight on the city level by way of .... ELECTIONS!!!
You want to set up a committee for oversight.. Okay do that employ more part time politicians to oversee law enforcement. But give them the autonomy to be held only accountable to voters not a mayor or governor but the electorate. This really makes more sense than a mayor or governor appointing like minded individuals. I kind of thought we had this already but ya know city councils are just soooooo overwhelmed by ya know .... stuff.
Personally I got no problem cutting spending. But what's gonna happen is a NEW Bureaucracy will be born and HALLELUJAH the money will reign down from taxpayers like manna from heaven.

stumpy....how many times have we seen this....the DA's office caves to political pressure, overcharge the crime, the jury acquits because the DA cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt and then everybody is pissed as hell......intent is a bitch to prove unless the accused has made some comments to others about wanting to get the person.....or the person purchases objects for the murder ahead of time. Otherwise, you cannot get in the head of the accused.
