As far as the Viet Cong battle flag they were fighting for independence and we stupidly got in the way. Ho Chi Min tried to get an audience with Western Leaders and was rebuffed more than once because they did not want to offend France.

It's not a matter of "enlightenment", it's a matter of good morals to say that we should not celebrate people who owned other human beings and fought a war against our country to try to preserve that "right"
Most Confederate monuments of course do not date to the period, they were mostly erected (lol) during the Civil Rights Era to remind black Americans to stay in line. I can point you to multiple articles about this if you are interested in this history.
This is precisely how removal of these monuments will free people from oppression.
It's freeing to not have to walk by a monument to the men who fought for your great grandparents to be owned as property while on your way to work.
It's freeing for indigenous people to tear down a statue of a man (Columbus) who orchestrated a genocide against their people
It's freeing for people in Philadelphia to not have to walk past a statue of a man (Frank Rizzo) who literally told people to "Vote White" and firebombed an entire neighborhood of black citizens.
