The question of racist vs. preference comes up all the time on the site.
Personally, I like slim women and have no interest in a plus size encounter.
I guess that makes me a "Fatist", for lack of a better word.
That's my preference though.
I'm open to the reality that SOME women prefer light skin or dark skin in the same way I prefer slim women without pre-judging that they are necessarily a racist.
If somebody tells me they don't take note of the physical features of someone they meet, I'd call them a liar. We all do that, just as we all note their mental, emotional, intellectual features. Its what we do with that information and how we treat that person that makes the difference.

I donât know Heliman.... it seems like he had a question in his mind. And when you have a question... you ask. Is it a âracistâ question? Yes. Is it mean spirited, intentional racism? I donât think so.
This kind of âracismâ is usually born out of lack of exposure. An honest ignorance. Itâs something ânewâ to HIM (at least in quantity), so he thought he would ask.
I think this is part of the problem in America today, we judge a man/woman by a split second moment in time and attack... rather than try to answer the question with an explanation of the problem with the question.
Heliman, the reason the question is racist is because it gives the impression (not saying that was your intention) that what you are seeing is strange or unnatural. There has to be something unique going on... because two people who are âdifferentâ from each other are together.
The racist it part is that it starts there... as if it is strange or unnatural. What makes it racist is that you donât think that when you see a white couple or black couple. They are the same in your mind, so... thatâs normal.â
âMixedâ couples are together for all of the same reasons same ethnicity couples are together. Some are good (love, attraction, connection, ...) some are bad (money, pressure, rebellion, revenge, status, etc...)
The âracistâ part is to see it and wonder âwhatâs up with that.â When you wouldnât ask it about a white or black couple. Again, racism comes in many forms and mindsets... itâs not all evil and mean... again... itâs often simply being exposed to something new.
Hopefully we (Americans) can have more conversations like this.
To answer the question.... every couple is unique and are together for different reasons. So... that question has to be asked of each of those individuals. There is no answer that covers âthe group.â
Now... there are some positive/negative stereotypical answers as mentioned above...the only way to know if they actually apply is to talk with that couple.

Kaiser did such a good job running through all the stigma of the question that I just have to add that while yes, there are always complexities and individual things that go into how and why relationships work... there is also race based curiosity based on decades of innuendo about black men's dicks. Straight out. So white, brown and every colored woman and man that falls into believing stereotypes may act on their curiosity.
Racism doesn't have to be a racial slur or a derogatory thing....in this case it is a complement of sorts that turns a racist stereotype into a "positive" for black men and a "curious experiment" for those interested in finding out for themselves if the rumors are true.
Yes it's racist. Yes it is, any way you look at it, but it is also a stereotype worth addressing in a manner devoid of humor (which is difficult in this case) because it is a serious thing, despite it's lighthearted aura. Despite the instant middle school giggles coming out.
