Agree and it may be the real damage coming out of this presidency. Many people have said this is the real right-wing agenda: undermine years of progress made on things like the environment and rights while packing courts with conservative judges.
Trump's job is just be a buffoon and sort of troll to distract people from the real destruction happening.
A few of these judges can probably be recalled or removed, but that is a messy process.
|
|
No, he is making sure the courts and judges adhere to the duties and powers presented in the Constitution.
Judges are NOT in place to make LAW. That is for the Legislative Branch.
Far too many of our judges have lost sight of that dictate and they seem to think they can make new laws on their own.....
|
|
If there has been anything obvious about anyone attempting to "pack" the court system it has been that President doing that is not exactly always going to get what they think they are getting. In the past 3 years Trumps appointees have dissented against the government more times than you give them credit for proving 1 thing, that the so called staunch conservative opinion is not as entrenched as the left thinks it is and the the more liberal judges are as entrenched as we think they are.
|
|
Agreed.
Thats one thing Obama did not do even when the Dems had both Houses of Congress.
They were so embroiled in the Health Care fight they neglected to confirm judges.
|
|
^^^^
The judges are starting to judge not legislate.....that is good for our country.
|
|
Agreed with OP! lol
|
|
Theres nothing good about having a bunch of right wing judges. Nothing at all!
|
|
Sad, but true. A backwards step IMO. The arc of the moral universe is long, and it may bend toward justice but it’s going to take a lot longer to get there now......
|
|
Not right wing....
Judges who follow the Constitution and do not try to legislate.
Roberts is not right wing....but he does try to adhere to the Constitution.
|
|
I agree with OP... which is the only reason I would support a Trump 2nd Term.
I don't like the idea of "activist" courts. I have not been paying close attention to lower court appointments... but if they are along the lines of recent SCOTUS appointments... I dig that.
The both sides hope to be able to use the court to further their agenda. Judges that seem to lean left seem more open to make decisions based on what they think things should be rather than what fits within constitutional framework.
I like that the courts have pushed back against Trump when they feel he is out of line. I don't want ALL conservative (strict constitutionalist judges). I want there to be other and opposing voices... but I prefer a conservative leaning court. I like Gorusch and Kavanaugh as appointments. I can't imagine Ginsburg holding on another 4 years.
I imagine if Biden wins in November she will retire almost immediately.
OP has hit the nail on the head. Like Trump or Hate him... with a red senate... he has been able to get court appointments through.
|
|
If we get more like Gorsuch and Robertson, the Dems won't need to worry about it, lol
These 2 are so afraid the court will be attacked that they've basically ignored the law and legislated from the bench anyway.
So, OP shouldn't get too excited nor should anyone else.
I'd bet money not a one of you follow the decisions or how they were rendered.
Sometimes, they don't even render, they ignore.
There were roughly ten cases regarding the 2nd Amendment, they chose to NOT address any of them and just didn't accept them onto the court docket.
So there's that...........
|
|
*Roberts not Robertson
|
|
well... that guy from Duck Dynasty could be a supreme court judge I guess.
|
|
SCOTUS really needs to start throwing this shit back at Congress
Lazy fucks on Capitol Hill don't want to do shit, so they make vague generalized laws and step back to watch the bureaucracy fuck it up and then let SCOTUS sort it out
Going the SCOTUS route shortchanges the legislative process where we, the People, have more input into the sausage making

And a record number of Trump's nominees are ranked as 'Not Qualified' to serve. The scary part is that some of these are lifetime seats. These are advocate judges.
|
|
"And a record number of Trump's nominees are ranked as 'Not Qualified' to serve."
Corndog, I wouldn't want to assume that it's the ACLU or Southern Poverty Law Center that did the ranking. Or the ABA.
Care to share where that came from?

2nd Amendment solutions...
The liberals need to get over their fear.
|
|
It’s my understanding the Federalist Society in effect appoints the Judges now and Trump rubber stamps them
|
|
It wasn't Obama poor performance lol
It was the toll it took from the Obama Care Battle.
Republicans tried to make it seem like it was some take over of health care. Now both Dems and many Republican voter like it. Granted their still are things in it that need to be fixed but just getting it passed took its toll on Obama first term and on some Senate and House races.

The scars and victims of progress.........

I hope the 9th circuit flips soon. They are always anti 2A and against the Constitution.

"Care to share where that came from?"
There's this thing called the internet, it's filled with information.

its' very important to elect Trump a second time.. so he can continue the nomination of judges that FOR ONCE uphold the constitution and the law..
and not people like "Sotomayor" who clearly doesn't give a fuck about this country and all that it's stand for...

"Agree and it may be the real damage coming out of this presidency. Many people have said this is the real right-wing agenda: undermine years of progress made on things like the environment and rights while packing courts with conservative judges."
Somehow you think conservative judges are opposed to "rights". I would argue that a principled conservative supports our Constitutional right and genuine equal rights for all citizenry. That of course if far different from those who demand special rights and treatment due to their perceived victimization status, as well as the wild extrapolation of "rights" of things that can't logically be considered rights because fulfillment of them would come at the expense of the rights of others.
I'm curious to see if liberals can come up with a calm and reasoned rebuttal, so I will cheerfully await your reply. In any case, I'm happy to hear that Trump is at least doing something right, even if I disagree with many of his other policies and actions.

"No, he is making sure the courts and judges adhere to the duties and powers presented in the Constitution. Judges are NOT in place to make LAW. That is for the Legislative Branch."
Good to hear from somebody who actually understands the legal system in this country.

"Theres nothing good about having a bunch of right wing judges. Nothing at all!"
Nice to see you can present a fact-based discussion without letting your particular political views color your response.

"And a record number of Trump's nominees are ranked as 'Not Qualified' to serve."
By who?
Here's what annoys me about wildly partisan people. on EITHER side of the political aisle. They view those who hold similar political positions as some type of referral authority, as opposed to developing those positions based on an independent pursuit of facts and logic. I did not vote for Trump and I have many disagreements with him on both policy and style. At the same time, I can recognize and concede when he has done something right. Activist judges who are concerned with neither the constraints to their power as outlined in the Constitution nor the will of the people have created a legal disaster in this country. If Trump's appointments are undermining the attempt of the far loony left to hijack the judicial system in this country, more power to him.

"If you read between lines of Happygay63's post, its glaringly obvious that he does not think Trump is 'buffoon', but rather HG63 is simply disturbed he didn't get his way. Sorta like a child's tantrum. Lets get this straight.. He's a buffoon, but he appoints a couple hundred judges you disagree with?"
Reminds me of a previous generation of whiners who would simultaneously claim that George W Bush was an idiot yet stole a presidential election, two things that would be mutually exclusive in the minds of most thinking people.

"There's this thing called the internet, it's filled with information."
Rather than provide an answer to my question, Corndog chose to deflect
Which means one of the following:
1. He made it up
2. The source of the ranking is an embarrassment
Well reasoned and stated @GT
Expect a flaming rebuttal full of misinformation, caricaturization, and uninformed statements of fantasy and viilification.
In other words, they're gonna yell stupid stuff at you because you dont hate Trump as much as they do.

It’s my understanding the Federalist Society in effect appoints the judges now and Trump rubber stamps them"
You'd be wrong then Don.
The Federdalist Society certainly has a list of recommendations that Trump uses but they make no appointments.
And, that would be the reason why the ABA is attempting to prevent judicial members from also being a member of the FS or ACS (American Costitution Society, the liberal counterpart to the FS).
However, those organizations are significantly different in their activities as to not be equivalent.
Here's the purpose of the Federalist Society and opposition to this fundamental aspect of our system is difficult to fathom.
"It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be."
What the law "should be" is the province of Congress.
That is where we the people have the greatest input every 2, 4 and 6 years.

And, there you have it, lol
A factual account from a guy who was on the government cheese
WorldAss
I invite you to revisit the speeches made by Barney Frank and Maxine Waters and Bill Clinton who wanted to encourage home ownership by pushing FNMA to accept liar loans for people that actually had NO job.
George Bush publicly implored Congress to rein in the craziness or it would all collapse
This is all PUBLIC RECORD and the speeches he made were done on the floor of Congress
Barney and gang just said "hey, no worries, it's all good"
Agree with you that quite a few, but not all, mortgage originators took advantage of these laws and regulations to push shitty loans out the door then sell the paper to FNMA. AND, they all went broke including FNMA. Quite a few of these bad players were right here in OC plus the famous CountryWide but if you want to study the list of merged, nationalised or insolvent lenders....I linked the list.
It ALL started with Bill, Barney and Auntie Maxine.
So, yell and scream bullshit all you want but it does not change the reality of what happened.
Nice rant though!

And, WTF does that have to do with Trump's judicial appointments anyway
Stay on topic, my man

Soo working at a Fed Agency qualifies you for what ? To state an opinion?
Here is my opinion.... Bunch o morons republican and dem put pressure on Banks and Mortgage companies to make loans to people who couldn't afford them. The prevalence of these loans made a market for some to buy and sell the loans in bundles and the SEC failed the PUBLIC by not monitoring the health of these loans and their respective bundles.
So public servants started and ended that shit show.... Obama gave trillions to well connected banks and financial institutions while the smaller ones were told to suck it. (Many homeowners too).
But yeah THANK YOU ex public servant and yeah I guess I may sound a bit ungrateful but pleaaaaase refrain from singing the praises of the most protected of all classes in America today.... The "Public Servant".
|
|
BTW Bush woulda killed the small banks and. Institutions also not saying he wouldn't, the gist is a big bank problem fucked a lot of small financial institutions.
|
|
You forgot all the rating agencies like Moody's that gave all those bundles a AAA rating so grandma and grandpa would buy that worthless shit.
Fucking gubmint sponsored scam, lol
But they all went broke, the only ones that didn't lose their jobs were guess who?
Those fuckers working at the gubmint and the politicians
Didn't you fuckwads ever wonder why it was during the Great Recession that the 2 counties surrounding Washington, DC never even felt it?
They got pay raises throughout the whole thing, check it out....public record
C'mon WorldAss, do your homework

Really!! You are going to impeach hundreds of judges?!!!
We cant fire a public employee in any effective manner how the fuck do you think your are going to impeach federal judges.
|
|
China has us by the balls? You think is the call those bonds EVERYTHING INCLUDING CHINA fails?!!!
Wont happen and you know it. And we should play just as hard with China as they are playing with us. It's YOUR mentality that needs to change. You get whatever you like from china so fuck the rest of us. They get the jobs we get the unemployment checks and your stock price rises .... Fuck THAT!!

Worldclass...
The Housing bubble with sub-prime loans started under Clinton (led by Barney Frank) with the Affordable Housing changes that allowed restrictions in loan standards to be eased to allow those with less income and questionable credit still be able to purchase homes.
It was a noble effort... but like most things that cost money... you can only give them away for so long.
The unintended consequence was a banking system that saw a way to make SHIT LOADS of money in fees while providing adjustable... interest only (Affordable)loans to people who were excluded from buying because of low income and bad credit. Bush came in and the gravy train was rolling for everyone. NO ONE wanted it to stop... so... in spite of the danger signs... Like Clinton, he let it keep going. Bundled mortgage backed Securities were part of this genius plan. EVERYBODY loved them. Bundle the bad loans with the good loans and allow investors to buy the bundle. Then... get insurance companies to guarantee the bundles. Everything was great... until people had to start making a full mortgage payment and the house of cards began to collapse... and it collapsed QUICKLY once it started.
So you can blame it on Bush if you like. He was holding the bomb when it exploded... but Bill Clinton, Barney Frank and the Democratic Congress lit the fuse.... and everyone in government (right, middle and left) and business cheered the beauty of it... until it blew up.
