Question for the cat people.
Jun 29 2020 07:05PM more by lamar

I'm a member of the local Next Door app. For the past couple of years I've been reading blogs about cats being attacked and eaten by coyotes. Cat lovers are bitching everytime someone post a blog and/or picture of a cat being eaten by coyotes yet people still let their cats roam the neighborhood then come online crying when it's their cat that's the victim. Their reason being it was an outdoor cat.

My question is if the cat roams the neighborhood freely is it really your cat? Aren't outdoor cats really just a stray cat that you put food out for?

So your saying a dog would be different ?

Cause there are three of them next door that would love to run the hood only to get run over like a cat.

And I don't think a Coyote would care what it got.

I never mentioned dogs because it's rare to see dogs roaming the streets but dogs are no exception for coyotes, they don't discriminate between cats or dogs. Usually when I read about a dog being killed by coyotes they jumped a six foot fence into a back yard and killed the dog or in a few occasions the owner was walking their dog and a coyote snatched it off the leash. Through the Next Door app I have encountered people to buy and carry pepper jel with a 20 foot spray range when walking their dogs.

I carry pepper spray AND a taser when walking the dog at night. Lots of coyotes where I live.

The Next Door app isn't a store, it's more like a neighborhood watch online.

I know someone who lives a mile from Newports back bay. Coyote jumped the 6' fence and got there rabbit in a resident neighborhood.

Sometimes I see coyotes trotting back into greenbelt areas between streets before sundown. They're going into the kill zone to take cover and hide before cats are let out.

I cant understand people that vent on Nextdoor about losing cats. Is the head Coyote mob boss logging in to accept protection money for cats?

I dont let my cat outside. I grew up having inside/outdoor cats and they often sustained injuries fighting with other cats or they got eaten by coyotes.

if someone goes around the neighborhood and slashes all the cars tires, is it the car owners' fault for not keeping their cars in the garages?

Five of my barn cats disappeared in the last 6 years, never to be heard from again. Its probably coyotes, but I can't be positive because my livestock guardian dogs do a really good job of keeping them away. I'm not particularly fussed about losing the cats as I'm not emotionally attached to them. Cat rescue groups always have more barn cats available. We give the cats food, water, and shelter and they pay us back by keeping the rodents in check.

It is now known many cats would like to kill their owner if they're talking behind their back. Like on NextDoor or here.

Actually a little harder than that.

A study in documented just that. I'd have to find it. Cats attack.

If you own a cat there's something you should know about that sneezing, running awful looking eye is actually KCS induced by the onset of feline herpes. If your cat doesn't show signs there's still a 30% chance of them being a carrier. There are things you can do now to help alleviate symptoms and shorten the outbreaks.

1. Cleanse in and around the eye. Optixcare eye wipes
2. Vizoovet Protect 2x daily each eye
3. Optixcare lysine chews - competitive inhibition

Here's a video on how to LubeUrCat:

Coyotes are non-desciminatory. Any domesticated pet is a box lunch. Coyotes are opportunistic; they'll take what they can get. I've seen a coyote take out an old couple's Shih Tzu as they were trying to cross the street, running off with the poor thing in its mouth. Up until a couple of years ago, we had a pack of the damn things running around my neighborhood, the female, which was the dominant member of the pack, and in heat, would basically attract any stray males, which would then get taken out by the rest of the pack. Solitary Coyotes are more likely to take out cats and smaller pets as they're easier prey.

Damn I did not know cats kill squirrels, mice, rats, rabbits, and other rodents.

If you ever had a large garden you would know you can't stand any of those rodents.

Rodents carry the fleas that can carry bubonic plague.

Come on cats eat all the rodents.

Sorry lizards and snakes although I've never seen a cat kill a snake.

Chipmunks and squirrels can devastate growing fruit trees and vegetation.
