It turns out that the BLM protests have not caused the spikes in cases. Probably because the protests were outdoors and the protesters mostly wore masks and kept their distances whenever possible.
The more likely cause of the increases are social gatherings in bars/restaurants/private homes.
We're probably also gonna see a pretty significant spike in Oklahoma soon because of Trump's campaign rally. Would probably be much worse, except the smart people stayed away.

So the other estimated 2% was perfectly healthy, caught Covid, and passed!
By American standards, we can live with that death toll! WE have in the past with other diseases and viruses.

Half our deaths this time around are in some type of congregate care living.
If we'd spent our efforts there instead of shipping Covid patients INTO those facilities, like Cuomo did, we'd be at 70,000 dead instead of almost 140,000
AND, we wouldn't have killed the thousands now estimated from lack of other medical treatment, suicides, drug use, etc.
AND, we wouldn't have lost trillions in our economy, which will now take years to recover NOT TO MENTION, the millions who will die from lack of food due to the weakened world economy. An estmated 500 million people worldwide have simply dropped out of the progress we've made over the last 30 years and are in danger of starvation.

If we didn't have a lockdown, it's been estimated by that article in Nature that there would have been 4,800,000 more cases (not just infections, but cases that would have been confirmed) in the United States as of April 6th, which would have translated to hundreds of thousands of more deaths as of April 6th, many more than just due to the virus since hospitals would have been overwhelmed. Probably a lot more after April 6th too, but the evidence isn't out yet on that.
Modeling has succeeded. It has succeeded at getting people in positions of power to take COVID-19 extremely seriously. The large numbers of deaths from modeling may have made people think they are unrealistically high, but they also produced a large-scale response that meant that we haven’t seen the fulmination of these modeling results. As we are cutting back on social distancing, we are now seeing a minor glimpse of what would have happened if we did nothing.
I don't like lockdowns, and we should prevent them from happening, but, in my opinion, it was the right move at the right time.
