changing names has nothing to do with the "left" or politics or some political correct letter writing campaign. It is business and profit driven. These teams know their markets and the American landscape is changing.
Racist names are not cool and not accepted. Those brands will change or die. See NASCAR and loser flag, and Aunt Jemima.
Names like "Redskins", "Indians", "Chiefs" are not viable team names these days. They will lose ticket sales and support, and merch goes to zero--NO ONE will wear any of these team's shirts or gear (except clueless old dudes who advertise being clueless).
And really a team mascot is stupid and made up. Maybe not needed. But who is dumb enough to try to fight to keep these outdated and offensive ones?
And they ARE offensive
Sure a few old racist dudes will protest and say they will never see another game but the owners don't give a shit because owners know their audience is the younger gen and the old dudes will be back no matter what the team mascot is

months? No this has been going on for years, decades even. Maybe you were not paying attention or aware.
It was a stupid name all along so why does anyone care if it goes away? It's not history or tradition or anything at all--probably actual natives were displaced to build the stadium and unlikely anyone with much native blood was on that team ever.
People are just fighting for the sake of making noise but there is nothing here to defend or fight for.
But these trends and fashion does shift fast. Racism, even the offensive mascot kind, is no longer cool.
No brand wants that association. No team will have it. No one under 50 would think of wearing any of these racist teams jersey in public...

The statues honor people who should not be honored. They have been offensive and stupid for a long time. Military bases named after incompetent generals in an army that tried to destroy America? Yeah why would anyone save those except they been around for a long time and old people hate change?
The point is, what defines America is the ability to change. Destroying these monuments is patriotic and change in a good direction.
The people trying to destroy America are the idiots obstructing change and clinging to ideas, false history, and protecting statues that are worse than outdated--they are disgusting.

Any statue in any community could have been discussed and reviewed at their City Council level. We are a nation of laws and order. If a majority of people wanted the statue removed for whatever reason....do so.

Happy... I agree with you about the statues. I don’t care if the statues stay... or go. I just don’t think the decisions should be made arbitrarily by an angry mob.
A few weeks ago they took down a statue of Robert E Lee. The people spoke. The city listened. His great great grandson was there and echoed the sentiments of the community.
If they want to protect history... put the statues in a war losers museum somewhere.
If things work that way... then I am going to get 20 guys together and we will go tear down the statue of FUBAR on the street in front of the HX headquarters in downtown Muscoy, California.
We can go the anarchy route where small groups make decisions... but is usually does not end well for anyone

It's kinda the opposite, trying to have us all get along and do the least harm. Part of that is acknowledging that the US was founded on a terrible set of crimes and criminals.
And like many are realizing, if the US was what it said... land of the free, opportunity, heroes--then it would have failed. I don't know about reparations, but we start by not glorifying the crimes and criminals.
