A couple things I'd like to get off my chest here.
1. Well, I'm sorry that trying to prevent more people from dying is infringing on your ability to enjoy your summer.
2. Masks do work. I laid out some research yesterday in another blog. Do a "blogs about" search for "masks."
3. Yeah, that does suck. I agree. Blame the virus, not people.
4. Some people are essential and have to go out to work. Some people have no choice and live with 20 other people in a tiny apartment and are more likely to get COVID if case numbers are super high. How about an infringement on their right to live?

The face mask isn't to protect you it's to slow the spread from the asymptomatic infected people (who don't know they are spreading virus). It's clear that the places where they wore them religiously from the start (Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong) have done 1000% better than us...

I mean if we had a vaccine like the flu that was about 50% effective, this might have ended up MAYBE being just like a really, really bad case of the flu.
Would we still have had to shut down? Depends on how busy hospitals were.
But we don't have a vaccine.

Umm... masks work, but they're not like condoms. They're not an impenetrable barrier. They work because they catch almost all the small droplets that carry the virus. They don't stop 100%, but they stop the bulk of it. This means a lot less virus in the air, which means less of a chance of spreading it. Masks are literally the #1 way we have to slow down the spread of the virus right now, and it's not a big deal to wear one when you have to be around other people. Please wear masks. It's a small ask, and it could save a life.

What people do in their free time (e.g. family get togethers, BLM protests,etc) should have zero bearing on whether the mom & pop shop down the street or the independent crafts store 2 blocks away have to be shut down. Why do we allow megastores like Walmart and Costco to remain open to thousands of people daily but we can't allow dozens and dozens of customers to go into small businesses? The statewide mask mandate and social distancing mitigations should allow all businesses large and small to be open.

OP,
Both masks and social distancing are measures that help to slow the spread of the virus but don't totally stop it.
If you have a virus that is 3 microns in size and a cloth mask that stops particles that are larger than 10 microns in size the mask will lessen but not completely stop some of the 3 micron particles that you might exhale and will lessen but not completely stop some of the 3 micron particles you might inhale.
The idea behind social distancing is that many of these virus particles will drop to the ground very quickly and therefore by staying 6 feet or more apart you will have less of a chance of inhaling these virus particles exhaled by other people. Of course that six feet rule is not perfect either since the particles don't necessarily drop to the ground immediately. A 5 micron particle can stay in the air for as long as 30 minutes.
A place like a bar can be very dangerous since when people are eating and drinking they don't wear masks and especially at a bar as the night wears on people tend to be very poor about social distancing.
I can understand some of your frustration for a variety of reasons.

the business closures are based on types of business though.
it's just ignorant to claim that only megacorportations are being allowed to stay open. so is comparing a independent crafts store to a walmart for the sake of making a bad point.
it's not like they're forcing closures of smaller gyms and allowing la fitness or 24 to stay open. they're just closing all gyms.

I've stopped paying attention to Level 0 blogs or comments. Wish I could have site filter them, but easy enough to skip reading.
There is a pattern that these handles are created only so people (guys mostly) can abuse HX to post outrageous nonsense to see who they can provoke. None of them would say this stuff if a real person was connected to it because none really believe it.
Worse now that site is cool with people having multiple active handles.
So replying or even reading their comments or blogs is just a waste of time and energy. It's not a real person or real thoughts.
