When discussing the virus Its a political weapon!!! To beat you into submission. That's not to say dont wear a mask or dont social distance.
My point is that a person is not morally superior because they wear a mask while being 50 feet from anyone, glove to get their mail, and look disparagingly at their neighbors who play with their children in the front yard (while calling 911 to report them).
Just live and do the best you can for yourself and leave other people to their own devices.

I am not a conspiracy theorist. I generally don't buy into crazy ideas about how the Illuminati is controlling things, how the Star Chamber directs all, etc...but....
Think about it. There hasn't been a virus like this that has "required" such a drastic response in OVER 100 YEARS!
And this virus just appears right in the beginning of an election year? An election year in which a President, like him or don't like him, love or hate him, has been viciously attacked in an unprecedented manner by his opponents, the media, and other world leaders! Why? Because he's a populist -- a man of the people. And he calls bullshit on China and trade policies, NATO and its members that let the US Taxpayer foot the bill for their defense, is NOT a proponent of the military/industrial complex, and refuses to promote war, death, conquest, and nation building by our country.
They hate him. He is a threat to their power -- again, whether you love him or hate him. He is a threat to the New World Order crowd -- the socialists, Pelosis, Bushes, Romneys, etc. They tried to take him down with a Russiagate hoax, and turned Robert Mueller loose on him. They failed. They tried to destroy him with an alleged affair with a stripper. Fail. They tried again with a bogus impeachment. Failed yet again. And they've had the media run a 100% negative narrative against him for 3 1/2 years! Failed, but simply made the left's base who didn't like Trump before hate and despise him even more, with every once of their being. The rest of the people said, "Hey, the economy is doing great!" And if the economy was doing great, the left conceded that Trump would be reelected in a landslide!
Some low level opponents of the President like AOC even called for policies that would damage teh economy, just to impact the November election. If that economy stood tall, then so would Trump in November. End of story.
And then in December of 2019, a virus appears in Wuhan. After all, China is the source of many bad viruses over the past several decades. No one would be suspicious if it started there, in the cradle of wet markets, pangolin eating, and bat soup. But then it started to "move." It made it to Europe. Then on to the U.S., starting on cruise ships and devastating NYC by way of elevators and the subway system. And the U.S. economy was in peril, after a nationwide shut down -- Trump's reelection is no longer a foregone conclusion! He's in trouble.
We sacrificed and stayed at home, wore masks, social distanced. Gave up going to work, sports events, family gatherings, closed little league baseball, and kept kids home from school. When it was time to get back to our lives, the virus roared back to life -- spread this time by protesters who massed together in the streets to object to the Floyd death...and spread in other ways as well. It's being injected back into society, every time it begins to falter.
Coincidentally, the U.S. recovery is NOT following the patterns of Spain, Italy, and other hard hit countries. And more coincidentally, most of the rest of the world has banned travel from the U.S. They know what's up. As we quarantine, heal, and try to get back to normal, it seems as if the virus is re-injected into society. Our infections rates spike, and here we go, round 2. More devastation to the economy, in July...with an election in November, of a President who was riding high on the economy, and who was universally hated by the ruling class, but nonetheless headed for a landslide reelection.
I suspect that the infection rates will stay high through November, and the virus will continue to be introduced into the population until November...and the damage will be especially great in the swing states -- Florida, Michigan, Ohio, etc. And come November, once the election is over, I bet the virus will leave us just as quickly as it arrived. A path of economic devastation that will take a decade to recover from.
If you believe that this virus magically appeared on the world stage just 9 months before the November elections, when no virus of this magnitude has hit in over 100 years, and that the destruction of the Trump economy wasn't the goal -- and that this is just a coincidence...then I have dead-end bridge and some swamplands for sale...give me a call. This didn't just happen, it's a man made crisis, we're the blind masses, and the puppeteers, angry over the Trump presidency, which threatens their power and continued wealth, are pulling the strings. And we sit blindly by and take it.
Theoretically.

Last I heard, the DNC had the virus custom designed as a back up plan to Russian collusion and impeachment. Apparently, if they fucked up on the first 2 attempts, this was the fallback. Even they're a little squeamish about killing a couple hundred thousand just to get rid of Trump but felt they had no choice in the end.

I think it’s all of the above.
Its a Novel (new) Virus. Nobody really understands it completely yet... hence the changing information day to day, week to week. Wear masks, don’t wear masks. Masks don’t help, masks help a lot, masks don’t matter at all. It’s transferred by touch, it’s airborne, it lives on surfaces for a week... uhh 2 days.... dies quickly on surfaces... etc...
Those changes of information give room for doubt, confusion and mis-information (from various sources) And flat out denial.
This becomes an easy political weapon to wield.
The CDC doesn’t know what to do...
The president doesn’t know what to do...
Governors Don’t know what to do...
Mayors don’t know what to do...
So people don’t know what to do.
Those are prime conditions for finger pointing, undermining, accusations... etc... that are/will be used by all to further their political agendas.

in the midst of all the facts and fears, a lack of human contact is horrible on the immune system and personal wellbeing. remember to take the time to hug and touch your loved ones. we're doing a hell of a lot for our health right now, but dont forget some of the smaller details

People are definitely falling ill and dying, but it also seems like there is selective application or overreach on when the mandates are enforced.
Seems like it could be a test case for limits on taking away our established liberties.

He will try to hold us hostage by not reopening schools and force distance learning in fall, cater to teachers unions and not provide charter schools, cater to the woke mob and defund police, and try to come up with a deceptive smoke and mirror scene to get us to abolish prop 13 probably by calling it "prop 13"...

What you're all missing here is what was happening January 2020 in Hong Kong before the virus was widespread. They were having huge pro democracy rallies of over a million people in the streets waving American flags, and now 6 months later they have the harshest Hong Kong National Security Laws. Whether is it was man made or a natural virus isn't the issue. China initially covered this up and achieved thier desired results.

And regarding COVID when do people stop quoting infection rates when testing has increased by well over an order of magnitude in the past few months and just focus on fatality by age group.?

@Jack... That and comparing our rates to other countries. Theres no way and damn near impossible to believe that just because we have done beat at testing and counting who has died with covid that we are the country that is worse off than any other country. It just boggles the mind that someone thinks our infection rate is higher than that of china or india.
Common sense would tell you that that isn't the case but since before the Pandemic that is something that we apparently outsourced and are running drastically low on.
