Jew is not a derogatory term in itself.
It’s one of the words that’s meaning and appropriateness is dependent on the context.
“That Jew Lawyer.” Would be considered derogatory.
“I am a Christian, he is a Jew.” Is not.
“The Jews control Hollywood” could be derogatory.
“Jews are being attacked all over the world.” Is not.
I know a LOT of Jewish people (I grew up in Monsey, NY) and depending on the context...they have no problem with “Jew.”
I understand the desire to be careful.
